Why doesn't he get in his car and drive to the furthest remote place in the UK and stay there? He is a horrible excuse for a human being, makes me want to vomit....feeble apologies, because he's now thinking about his finances.......he should never be allowed to be on TV or write in newspapers again....why isn't he made an example of? ....

I don’t think JC would be my type of person to put it mildly, but I agree that a very generous acceptance from M&H would have served them better.

How can they expect an apology from Charles/William/rf if they have just rejected one? Charles &co might grovel and H&M tell them to do one.

TooBigForMyBoots · 17/01/2023 10:49

It was a pathetic Sorry - Not sorry and it's weird that he sent it on Christmas day to the husband of the person he was so revolting about.🤨

He's getting the boot from Amazon prime (think it's them). Good. Does he have ADHD as he has no filter

I actually wondered that watching Clarksons Farm last year, because I saw some of the traits. Impulsivity with decisions and speech, the young man working with him constantly pulling him up for not listening or concentrating when he tried to explain things.

There are lot of adults with ADHD traits whose various advantages in life allowed us to get by with no diagnosis.

But anyway.

Wisdom teaches us that when we screw up, we need to put the screwup right. That's why so many of us are hesitant to accept verbal apologies, even when we've been brought up to accept them immediately. It is difficult to forgive someone if you can't trust them to behave decently from now on. It will be interesting to see how Mr Clarkson proceeds.

And personally, I did see that column as tipping over into incitement. The language, the visuals, the subject, and the timing of its publication came together in an ugly way. I cannot understand why the editors and subeditors working on that column put it to print. Maybe Clarkson was three sheets to the wind on an overdue deadline and sent in the ramblings of an angry old man. But the staff at The Sun were probably sober and in the office on time.

He has lost his two series on Amazon Prime and Harry and Meghan have apparently not accepted his apology (Charles and William take note!).

I'm rather annoyed about that. I don't like the man (couldn't stand the twattery on Top Gear) but Clarkson's Farm was a great show so I hope it gets picked up again.

Cancel culture is one of the worst things about modern life.

ScribblingPixie · 17/01/2023 10:58

Jeremy Clarkson should be strongly penalised by The Sun (or whoever he writes his column for). Provided he didn’t follow normal procedure of oversight. It was a work issue for them and he should be fired. (He may have been already, I’m not following it fully.)

What? The Sun published the article. It would have been read and approved by senior staff on the newspaper, very likely including the editor, before it was published. They are equally responsible, if not more so as they should have protected their writer from this very predictable shitshow.

CornishGem1975 · 17/01/2023 12:27

The Sun don't give a shiny shit. Did it get them more attention? Yes! Object achieved.

As far as I’m aware, he hasn’t really been dropped at all, Amazon are just trying to make it look that way. I believe he signed up for five years, ending in 2024, anyway and they had three series in the pipeline, and those will be going ahead as planned. The second series is due to drop next month.

I believe The Grand Tour is going to continue as previously planned as well.

CornishGem1975 · 17/01/2023 12:37

Yes @Butwhytho I've read that today - it's just nothing else will be commissioned. Which it may not have been anyway.

custardbear · 17/01/2023 12:52

They're as bad as each other in my eyes, MM with her nasty lies, mistruths, narcissism, gaslighting and bullying, JC and his misogyny and bullying

Justbetweenus · 17/01/2023 12:57

To all the posters up in arms about him sending the email on Christmas Day, the whole point of email is that you can read it when you like. If Harry wants to check his emails on Christmas Day that’s on him. It’s not like Clarkson dropped round to their house mid-festivities 🙄

Blufelt · 17/01/2023 13:01

I don’t like Clarkson but I think it’s dreadful that you think it’s appropriate to “make an example” of anyone. Because basically you’re saying that an apology isn’t enough, and you want his life and livelihood destroyed as a punishment for saying something you don’t agree with.

Maybe he thought they might have given the camera crew a day off

Agree.

Did you not notice I included the sentence “provided he didn’t follow normal procedure of oversight”?

The reason I did is because Clarkson said he didn’t show it to the usual people. Which possibly means that he didn’t follow protocol. If he didn’t, then that’s a disciplinary offence in my view.

Obviously the Sun should have had oversight and they chose to print it. An extraordinary decision. Of course they’re culpable.

Ohnonevermind · 17/01/2023 13:13

@OrcastralManoeuvresInTheDark

Perhaps he was protecting his staff by saying it so none of them are made the fall guy.

I don’t really know Clarkson, I did see some episodes of top gear which wasn’t my thing, so don’t know if this is the type of thing he’d do

I’m someone who despite having “advantages in life” actually has an ADHD diagnosis, not just self-recognised traits which may not be enough to add up to a diagnosis anyway. And as such a person, I’m Hmm at someone - more the poster you’re replying to than you - flippantly suggesting ADHD.

Yes those of us with ADHD (actual, as in diagnosed) can be impulsive. But many of us are also able to have professional jobs and despite occasionally being wrongly impulsive within those jobs, we also know when the line is not just being crossed, but pole- vaulted over.

Clarkson may have ADHD, undiagnosed or not, but his level of recklessness here suggests a potential drinking problem and/or sense of not being accountable.

Yes I agree that occurred to me. But I was explaining to a PP the parameters within which he could be held accountable by The Sun as an employment/work issue (I put work as he may not be an employee as such.)

We don’t know what went on but it was a terrible fail. Ultimately by the publisher.

I think he must have meant partner/wife/friend who would read his copy before he submitted it. You can't bypass the staff of a newspaper. You submit your copy and it goes through the editorial process no matter what.

SchoolTripDrama · 17/01/2023 13:27

RenoDakota · 16/01/2023 20:00

You are absolutely right that it is too late, as he has been dropped by Amazon Prime now. The tosser has got his just desserts.

No he hasn't. All the articles are saying he's likely to be but he hasn't been dropped from anything yet

Yes he may have well meant that. But stranger things have happened. Newspapers staff fuck up too. Maybe it only went through one layer of staff rather than say the normal two. Who knows. Which is why I was talking in possibles, not absolutes.

OrcastralManoeuvresInTheDark · 17/01/2023 13:39

To clarify, maybe Clarkson was late submitting and bypassed one of the staff who was meant to see it and it was allowed because of time... I don't know. Neither do you.

But it's quite clear that not enough eyes, or at least not clear eyes, looked at that piece before it was published. It seems as if it was rushed off when drunk at the last minute. But that may not be the case.

Ohnonevermind · 17/01/2023 14:02

At least he’s taking accountability not blaming others.

IAmWomanHearMeRoar1 · 17/01/2023 14:14

Even if he 'apologised', what is he apologising for? Or rather, why? Because his career is under threat?

Clarkson meant every single word he said about Meghan. Every .single . word. He had the time, forethought and presence of mind to write it out, check for errors, and submitted it. At any time, he could have deleted it. What he said is the most horrific thing I have heard or read anyone in the media say, about any group, any race, any person. It was so horrific. There is no way he didn't know what he was saying or what the impact would be. He meant every single word, which is why I think he's a danger to society and should be kept away out of society.

He is not sorry at all, and he meant it.

Inkanta · 17/01/2023 16:46

His apologies aren't apologie - he's not sorry. They are half mocking - tongue in cheek - insincere and fancy emailing H&M on Christmas Day - arrogant much. Glad to see he's got his comeuppance. Piers Mogan next.

Blossomtoes · 17/01/2023 16:52

What’s arrogant about sending an email on Christmas Day? I feel quite sorry for him if he had nothing better to do. There’s two years before his Amazon contract expires, someone will offer him another one when it ends. In any event, he’s a very wealthy 62 year old, who could blame him for putting his feet up in 2025 and enjoying his riches?

I agree that he isn’t sorry, he doesn’t give a fuck.
