Why doesn't he get in his car and drive to the furthest remote place in the UK and stay there? He is a horrible excuse for a human being, makes me want to vomit....feeble apologies, because he's now thinking about his finances.......he should never be allowed to be on TV or write in newspapers again....why isn't he made an example of? ....

he’s an awful human being but I do think Harry and Meghan missed a trick. The chance to show how forgiving they can be and how easy it would be for Charles and William to do the right thin. They could have used clarkson for their own good because realistically peoples opinion of clarkson would not have changed whatever Harry and Meghan said.

Babooshka1990 · 17/01/2023 03:20

I’ll be a bit gutted if they cancel Clarksons Farm though it’s actually such a good shoe

Babooshka1990 · 17/01/2023 03:21

*show (obviously)

miri1985 · 17/01/2023 06:59

Not defending Clarkson what he said was awful but Harry thinks his past racism was cured by apologies, why doesn't he believe this can be fixed by an apology? Also Clarksons apology was a public one whereas we didn't hear about Harrys apology to the Rabbi and Auschwitz survivor until the Netflix series.

If Clarkson is as powerful as they were implying and what he said will cause violence towards women to increase then surely him apologising will cause violence against women to decrease.
Should Harry be blamed for any increase in Nazism since he wore that costume? No of course not just like I think Clarkson's words will have little impact on VAWG unlike what the Sussexes implied.

Its Meghans choice to forgive Clarkson or not but as others have said it might be a good opportunity to show how magnanimous they can be when apologised to

Ohnonevermind · 17/01/2023 08:30

Harrys ‘Pat’ anecdote - which is misogynistic rubbish, is the type of stuff Jeremy Clarkson comes out with.

Harry and Jeremy aren’t that different, Harry just has a better editor

Roussette · 17/01/2023 08:41

His apology is pathetic and it's addressed Private & Confidential to Harry. He hasn't even got the balls to apologise directly to Meghan. How awful is that. It's back to the 1960s

He's only done it because he's losing shows on Amazon.

Ohnonevermind · 17/01/2023 08:47

Meanwhile people are applauding Harry for his honesty while Pat wonders why it’s okay that he wrote that way about her.

Thesonglastslonger · 17/01/2023 08:48

He’s already been fired from Top Gear for punching a colleague and general aggression / unacceptable behaviour at work.

He’s clearly an awful person but the problem is that no matter how many times he’a fired for being an awful person, someone is always willing to rehire him. Why? His name gets clicks, just like you clicked on this thread. And that means advertisers will pay to be on sites that run content from him.

If you really want to get Jeremy Clarkson out of the public eye, then stop clicking. Stop making threads about him. Ignore him completely.

I was thinking that myself.

Instead of accusing Clarkson of 'hate rhetoric' and 'writing hate', and rejecting his apology, they could have offered to rehabilitate him in the ways of yoga and meditation or some such. He'd bloody loathe that.

Now H&M could look a bit inflexible around apologies - yet they're asking for apologies from the actual King and the Prince of Wales and the Royal Family.

And Clarkson will shrug and say, 'well I tried, but they won't budge'. And simply carry on with his lucrative career. (I do think he misses the guiding hand of his ExW and former agent, Francie.) I don't see the attraction myself but he's undoubtedly popular. So many ridiculous men in 'entertainment' are inexplicably popular.

GotAnyGrapez · 17/01/2023 08:52

Don't think clarkson needs to be cancelled. Harry & Meghan need to be cancelled, at least Clarkson hasn't put national security at risk....

Except it was not an apology.

Even in his online ramblings, no where is a line of 'I'm sorry Meghan'. Just a bunch of excuses.

Charles and William will have to be sincere.

Ofcourse, we will talk about this currently. And not let him go scot free. Hopefully, he disappears into oblivion after.

ConniesCoffee · 17/01/2023 09:21

Charles and William have nothing to apologise for. Meghan and Harry on the other hand.............. 😅

MalagaNights · 17/01/2023 09:27

He is not a man who apologies easily and I think his apology comes across as genuine contrition. He knows he went too far and it was disgraceful.

To then move the goal posts and say we don't forgive you until you apologise for everything you've written before this which we don't like, is just a silly game no one can win.

Meghan and Harry seem to want full on mea culpas from everyone for all their wrongs, even those not against M&H ,and nothing less will do.

OrcastralManoeuvresInTheDark · 17/01/2023 09:33

Jeremy Clarkson should be strongly penalised by The Sun (or whoever he writes his column for). Provided he didn’t follow normal procedure of oversight. It was a work issue for them and he should be fired. (He may have been already, I’m not following it fully.)

The BBC fired him because he punched a colleague. That was the right action.

As a PP said, the BBC dismissal didn’t put Amazon off. If they fire him for his Meghan piece, IMO it would be pure showboating. It didn’t happen in the course of their employment with them. And they’d be making it clear they think a royal-by-marriage’s feelings are more important than the physical safety of a ‘civilian’ crew member. They should be equally considered.

MalagaNights · 17/01/2023 09:40

I like his TV shows.

He's funny, self deprecating, has genuine relationships with co presenters, in interesting situations. I think he's popular because he comes across as very genuine and without the usual presenter style of 'I'm such a good guy' performance, and people like that. (Although I think it's become more and more performance)

We'll accept flawed people if they seem authentic.

H&M are the opposite. They present as perfect. With the perfect love, the perfect views, the perfect lifestyle. They are all about kindness and empathy and want to improve the world.
Funnily enough many people find this deeply off-putting and would take the grumpy old git over this every time.

I certainly rather watch him on TV than them.

miri1985 · 17/01/2023 09:44

"The BBC fired him because he punched a colleague. That was the right action."

Thats the difference though isn't it between Royals and non Royals. Jeremy Clarkson rightly gets fired for punching a colleague whereas Harry openly admits to assaulting members of his security team and theres no consequences.

I am not defending Clarksons column but there is a double standard at play in terms of forgiveness.

Even looking at their own family, they have a double standard Kate apologises for upsetting Meghan, its brought up again and again as a black mark against her whereas Meghan upsets Kate and apologises and the way its framed is that Kate is unreasonable for being upset in the first place.

That's very insightful.

I guess they are using this as an attempt to start their so-called 'global ripple of hope'. They want global this, global that.

I can’t get that worked up about him. I loved what he did for UK farming and he’s apologised. People need to be allowed to make mistakes, it’s a dangerous path we’re going down.

That was not a 'mistake', that was a considered volley of spite which he could have just not said, not sent off at all.

He and the other twat, Piers, are birds of a feather. It is nearly always women that they attack also. What is disgusting is that either of them have been given a platform to spout their bilge.

There are some wonderful farming programmes that I can watch/listen to so I don't much care what Jeremy Clarkson has to offer in that respect.

Were The Sun (who Clarkson wrote the column for) cancelled when they put national security at risk by dedicating a front page to Harry killing a Taliban chief? No? Then why aren't you calling for The Sun's cancellation first?

Mischance · 17/01/2023 10:02

The more grotesque his pronouncements, the more money he makes. And there are strange people who actually enjoy his writings terrifying isn't it?

There really are not. A lot are sentimental guff. This Farming Life is one of the better ones. Clarkson's shot himself in the foot but I suspect he's too rich to care.

There was an article in the Evening Standard about how these two were among Rebekah Brook’s close circle of friends who supported her during her trial about the phone hacking scandal in which she was found not guilty. She now works for Murdoch’s News International.

Dobby123456 · 17/01/2023 10:28

I wasn't entirely convinced by his apology. I think most of us got the Game of Thrones reference, we just didn't think it was a very funny joke. I say that as somebody who immdiately after the Oprah Winfrey interview was so unimpressed I wanted to throw eggs at her if she ever set foot in the UK again. (I should add, I've calmed down quite a lot since then!).

I have more sympathy for people who say unconsidered things on social media. You should always read through anything that's going to be published under your name, no matter how much you write.

SirSamVimesCityWatch · 17/01/2023 10:34

Clarkson was hired by Amazon after he punched a junior colleague in the face.

Amazon, who have such shitty working conditions in their warehouses that ambulances are often called to site to pick up employees who have dropped unconscious, do not have the moral high ground. Ever, on anything.

Amazon will follow the money. Clarksons farm will come out next month and if the viewing figures are high enough (which the most likely will be) then they will renew the contract. Of course they will. They will probably just wait a few months before they announce it.

Looking for moral leadership from billion dollar companies is just fucking stupid. No-one has ever made billions ethically.
