Shocked to see in this mornings Telegraph that Harry is concerned for the other "spares" He just wants to break the bad parenting pattern and stop it happening to Charlotte or George. If I was W&K I would be absolutely LIVID by now. What does anyone else think?

It's a complexed and interesting situation...There is also the matter of tax, I assume Harry will now be paying tax to the IRS. Meghan I believe will have had to declare and pay US taxes during her time in the UK, including declaring gifts, expenses etc, that must have been a headache for the Royal Accountants. Frogmore cottage is part of the Crown estate and is now leased to them by KC...I'm not sure if that is the case for all the gifted properties, IE Royal lodge, Amner Hall etc. But I would assume H&M will have had to declare it to the IRS if they owned it.

Harry lives in a complete Hollywood fantasy land where he sees himself as Sir Galahad on a white charger coming to save the world. Actually he is just a dim bloke who happens to have money and a title and talks sheer nonsense. If he was a guy living in a council house he will be the laughing stock of the neighbourhood.

You are right! Boris Johnson gave up his US birthplace nationality to reduce his tax implications.

Bet it’s a nightmare for H&M and requires an expert transnational accountancy team!

I wonder if tax on all those book/Netflix royalties is one of the reasons Harry now wants some sort of commonwealth job? Not being resident in the US would likely reduce his taxes (although Meghan would still have to pay the IRS?)

I’m sort of surprised that Meghan wasn’t compelled to naturalise and give up US nationality before marriage, but it is a long process and H&M didn’t have much time re: having babies due to age, so maybe that was part of the decision making.

Being an international couple seems romantic but it’s a pain in the arse for many practical reasons - especially if you both actually like your families and want kids to see both sets of grandparents- not an issue for Harry at the moment, seemingly!

Maybe he thinks he is Richard III reincarnated, remember him, the Uncle and Lord Protector who locked the Princes in the tower.. Lol

Ooh so much hatred and vitriol on this thread. I don't give a shiny shit about any of the royal family but what makes people behave like this about people they don't know?

Agreed, the obsession is scary. So much saltiness.

Ineke · 15/01/2023 17:39

Sorry Harry, I am really not very interested any more. Too many people out there with real heartbreaking problems.

Mollymoostoo · 15/01/2023 17:54

I get Ye West and Amber Heard vibes. He clearly is ill, delusional and needs help.
He thinks he is a saviour, that the reconciliation of him and his family will be felt around the world, that is mother is with him when he creams his todger, his dead mother turned a pregnancy test positive and his step mother is plotting against them all.
Paranoia, drug taking, grandiose delusions, sounds like bipolar.

His comments about a reconciliation having a ripple effect across the world were certainly pushing the boundaries of rationality.

I can’t read that. Does anyone know how to without paying? It’s terribly threatening. I feel for the Prince and Princess of Wales

Dont see what they need protecting from. They will have the choice to do royal duties or go to Uni and live a normal life. Think he needs to stop talking now.

Sillyname63 · 15/01/2023 18:14

The funny thing is he has had two children himself did he not think that Lillibet might not consider herself as a spare? Or doesn't it apply if you are a girl?

wishingyouwell · 15/01/2023 18:20

I'd be pleased my sibling was concerned. They don't fully understand what it is to be the 'spare' so the concern is coming from someone who actually fully understands.

Terrible history in the RF for the 'spares' so something needs to change for sure. Just look at Prince Andrew.

Hagpie · 15/01/2023 18:23

I can only read the little bit others have posted but I’ve never lived this life. He is telling us this is what he was made to feel like in his experience as being a royal and to me it … makes sense. I believe him. Royalists are the most deluded and entertaining subsection of the British public though, so I’m not surprised it’s having this reaction. Every other week it seems the Express or something has a new story about Diana and yet it’s wrong for him to sell HIS OWN story or it’s attention-seeking or whatever lmao. God bless us all in 2023!

I thought that too! Anyone thats anyone in the US will not want their brand contaminated by this and their social diaries are going to have dried up to nothing if they haven't already done so.The indiscretion if nothing else.
I've thought that too!
The movers and shakers in the A list tend to have very little of their private lives in the press. There's not regular leaks about their relationships and families.

If I were someone in elite circles I'd be very wary of opening up to Harry and Meghan now because they've shown themselves to be at best indiscrete and at worst shamelessly willing to sell out anyone's information for a quick dollar.

I bet Courtney Cox is none too pleased. Advertising that he took magic mushrooms at her house proves he cannot be discreet which is the death knell for anyone wanting to be in with the in-crowd.

LonginesPrime · 15/01/2023 18:37

While it seems quite common for uncles and aunts to overstep boundaries with how nieces and nephews are being raised when they don't have their own children (my DB is always trying to 'educate' me on how he would raise children, for example), I'm surprised that Harry would say this when he already has his own children.

I wonder how he would feel if William or anyone else publicly criticised his parenting or suggested he and Meghan needed outside help so as not to mess things up. If nothing else, it's just plain rude.

Terrible history in the RF for the 'spares' so something needs to change for sure. Just look at Prince Andrew.

Is there any evidence Andrew had an issue related to being the spare, rather than just a generic spoiled twat?

He's not in the same position as Harry in that he's not the second born so the "heir and the spare" dynamic isn't there. He wasn't created as the spare, Anne already existed and if he'd been female he wouldn't have been next in line

There was also 12 years between him and Charles so they wouldn't have been especially close growing up - unlike W&H and QEII/Margaret who were siblings close in age where differences were more obvious

It was also pretty widely consideres that he was the favourite child of the Queen - she wasn't pfb!

BellePeppa · 15/01/2023 18:39

Ridemeginger · 14/01/2023 14:30

The only thing I can think of is the possibility of both Charles and William passing away when George is still under 18 - and the possibility of Harry becoming regent. Shudder.

Even royalists would want a republic then! 😯

Ireallycantthinkofagoodone · 15/01/2023 18:39

@Mollymoostoo

I agree. The drug taking has had a massively detrimental effect on his ability to think rationally.

Ireallycantthinkofagoodone · 15/01/2023 18:43

@StatisticallyChallenged

Andrew was indeed the spare. Although Anne is older than Andrew, females were pushed down the line at time.
It’s fairly recent that the changes were made to the line of succession, so that females remained in their chronological place.

When people would call him unhinged I thought they were going too far, but to include this in a book knowing now millions of people have had the image in their head of him rubbing cream on his penis thinking of his Mum 😫 he’s beyond help.

There really is no defending this being in the book or defending Harry’s mental state as being stable when he comes out with stuff like that. How can he even say those words out loud in his audio book and not think uh oh that doesn’t sound good. No one would ever put that down, how can his wife possibly want to have s*x with him not knowing if his mummy obsession is still filling his head. (Even if she was the one who encouraged it, that’s got to be a big backfire). Women who defend him, would you really want to be sharing your life with someone who is obsessed with their mother - you can imagine MN if someone posted that about their husband!

I'm well aware of that - thought that was obvious from me saying "if he'd been female he wouldn't have been second in line" because in that situations he wouldn't have leapfrogged anne

What I mean is Harry is the second born, created as the spare. When Andrew was born there was already a spare - so he doesn't have the same "I was created in case my brother died or needed a kidney, they just needed a backup" crap. He was born because they wanted more children.
