Things Harry has never done

So Hazza laments that he “almost never carried money, never owned a car, never carried a house key, never once ordered anything online, never received a single box from Amazon, almost never travelled on the Underground” etc etc

Which got me to wondering what other everyday pleasures he’s missed out on - off the top of my head the list could include:

  • lost an afternoon on hold to a call centre
  • attempted to give stuff away on Freecycle/FB
  • tracked down the doorstep in the photo where your parcel’s been delivered
  • been on a rail replacement bus service
  • tried to cancel a gym membership

Any more? (lighthearted, of course)

What do you think he had to do that he didn't want to?

Be viewed by millions at his mother's funeral, do a press call for nearly every event in his life, live a public life, maybe not go to boarding school, - look, I don't know obviously, and yes he has plenty of great things about his life but it's pretty obvious that there are downsides too. You often hear people say 'I wouldn't want it / couldn't do it.'

MockneyReject · 13/01/2023 20:38

Sat in a field on his own all day, because it was his 40th birthday, and he couldn't afford to waste what little milk he had on cups of tea for any visitors that might turn up.

ThatshallotBaby · 13/01/2023 20:38

Splashed bleach on his best jeans while scrubbing bog
Dealt with a mouse butt that cats are flinging around
Spread rock hard nutella on a wrap for fussiest child in the universe
Tried to get a massive ink stain out of a blazer you can’t wash
Retrain
Worry about your pension/lack of pension
Do some weeding
Empty a cat litter tray
live with ongoing pain and health niggles

MockneyReject · 13/01/2023 20:50

Had to explain to the local blind school/local newspaper, that he didn't have the (£25) sponsor money he'd promised them - because his mum had 'borrowed' it to pay off the bailiff, with no way of paying it back.

SquashesPumpkinsAutumnBliss · 13/01/2023 20:57

Waited for hours for an ambulance, then several more on a trolley in a corridor

sat with lots of other people in a GP waiting room

Waited ages in the rain for a bus that was cancelled

tuen up to a supermarket without a £1 coil or token for a trolley and had to gave a car too heavy basket around and leave without everything you needed

done his own tax return without any professional help

MeinKraft · 13/01/2023 20:59

Eaten a 29p packet of instant noodles for dinner because it's still 6 days til payday

But he wanted to walk at his mother's funeral at the time - but obviously regretted it later.

He posed for photos on holiday, true. Doesn't seem like a huge thing for his jet setting round the world first class. Did he do loads of other press calls? I don't remember them.

Loads of boys go to boarding school. It's not like it's a gilded caged school for royal boys.

He didn't have to live a public life. He took himself off to different parts if the world and lived a quiet, private life for stretches at a time. He could have done that from 18 if he'd wanted to. He could have left his life anytime he wanted. But quite frankly he couldnt even figure out how to buy himself a settee or paint his kitchen, so.... At some time, Harry has to take responsibility for his own failings.

Picked dog poo out of the pram wheels.

MandyMotherOfBrian · 13/01/2023 21:01

Had an iota of self awareness or a shred of humility?

SpongeBabeSquarePants · 13/01/2023 21:07

Be an unpaid carer for a parent at the end of their life

Do a customer service job like retail, hospitality or call centre where irate customers are rude to you every day

Complete a universal credit application

Pay a library fine

Jury service (!)

YouJustDoYou · 13/01/2023 21:09

Never gone hungry. Never gone cold. Had to comfort your crying single mother because she's got no more money for that week and there's still 5 days to go to feed three people.

You asked, I answered. 🤷‍♀️

ItWasDobbinAtTheMareAndSpare · 13/01/2023 21:17

And I disagree. As a child he has zero choice about his public life.

NameChangeGin · 13/01/2023 21:18

-Sit in the dark when the electric meter's ran out
-experience sexual or physical abuse or exploitation
-wait 3 years for 6 weeks 'therapy' on the NHS

-experience hunger - real hunger
-work hard
-Learn about family loyalty
-be loyal to your family
-understand what having a disability is
-nit mock the disabled

upinaballoon · 13/01/2023 21:48

Ironed a linen or cotton sheet. (But would he have had to iron some things, like clothes, when he was in the army?)

Darned a blanket.

He ironed a LOT of cotton shirts in the Army.

Yesthatismychildsigh · 13/01/2023 22:13

Earned an honest living. And no, the Army doesn’t count when basically he wasn’t treated like anyone else.

Yesthatismychildsigh · 13/01/2023 22:14

Been an adult.

Harry never lived.

I believe that every normal thing we do day to day is living. Some days it sucks, others it's great but when we look back every experience, good and bad, makes us who we are today. The stories we tell about stupid stuff we did when young may make us laugh or cringe as we get older, but they still form is.

I don't blame him really, to want a life different than what he had. So many people see his life as one of great privilege, but no amount of money can replace a Grandmothers hug or having a mother see you grown up.

Hmmmm but he isn’t sitting wrapped in cellophane waiting to be broken out for special occasions. His normal is less everyday than most of us but his life will still be littered by mundanities as much as everyone else’s is. The tragi-comic bit is this is the best Harry can conjure up to try and tug on the heart strings. There is not a chance he is sitting wishing he could receive an Amazon delivery. It’s written manipulatively because these are the little things that he thinks will prick the conscience of the little people and make them pity him.

Anyway my contribution to the thread is he has never felt the sheer joy of finding 20 quid in a coat pocket when you are zero pounds zero pence the day before payday - a gift straight from god!
