The royal family

Things Harry has never done

So Hazza laments that he “almost never carried money, never owned a car, never carried a house key, never once ordered anything online, never received a single box from Amazon, almost never travelled on the Underground” etc etc

Which got me to wondering what other everyday pleasures he’s missed out on - off the top of my head the list could include:

  • lost an afternoon on hold to a call centre
  • attempted to give stuff away on Freecycle/FB
  • tracked down the doorstep in the photo where your parcel’s been delivered
  • been on a rail replacement bus service
  • tried to cancel a gym membership

Any more? (lighthearted, of course)

Most of the royal family won’t have done These things

BarryStyles · 13/01/2023 19:35

@notsosoftanymore I’m not at all angry! This is genuinely a light hearted thread. You seem cross though…

anyway, I’m adding:

  • online dating
  • coupon clipping
  • checked lottery numbers

Prince Edward travels regularly on the underground apparently.
Of course his face is not as well known as P. Harry, but there was a time when he was 4th in line to the throne.
Harry could probably by a biro for someone on Amazon, if he wanted to, which will kill two birds with one stone, by ordering on line, and having an Amazon delivery.

HowzAboutIt · 13/01/2023 19:36

Choose to "heat or eat"

Been ghosted by someone he fancied (be interesting to know different!)

Worried where to live after his marriage

More seriously - chatted to his mum about his teen problems

FedUpWithEverything123 · 13/01/2023 19:37

Gone overdrawn - and to add insult to injury, charged hefty daily fees for doing so

BarryStyles don't waste your life and damage your health with angry thoughts about a person you actually know nothing about, will never meet and are using to avoid addressing the serious ills around us. I bet you read the Daily Express or Mail, newspapers owned by millionaires interested in keeping you in your box. Ask yourself why this matters so much to you, it's so sad to see.

Can you recommend a reliable news outlet not owned by/controlled by millionaires?

SuburbanCrofter · 13/01/2023 19:42

Oh my sister and I were already making a list of things Prince Happy doesn't have to do! So far I have:
Go to Aldi in the rain
Wipe the dog's snotty nose prints off the window
Write to his local councillor about the school bus service being cancelled

Anything he didn’t want to.

I’m not particularly a fan, but I think he probably has done a lot of stuff he didn’t want to and not done a lot of stuff he would have wanted to. Not to say that he doesn’t have plenty of privilege but it’s a pretty gilded and regimented cage.

Fedupsequin · 13/01/2023 19:47

Filled the clearly empty hand soap bottle with water to tide you over until the morning.
Chased the bin men to ask if you can empty the ‘black bin bag’ rubbish out of your garden bin.

Streamside · 13/01/2023 19:48

Winced when the ATM machine asks if you want to check your balance

Change a tyre
Fill the washer bottle for the windscreen wipers
Wait for the AA (car not alcohol)
Sit in a traffic jam
Wait for assistance due to 'unexpected item in the bagging area'

He has sat in a traffic jam because quite a few years ago I was also in the same jam and couldn't think where I'd seen the person in the car next to me, only dawned on me later. It was round Kings Lynn so he could have been heading up to Sandringham.

MandyMotherOfBrian · 13/01/2023 19:50

Been sanctioned on his benefits claim because he was late for his meeting because he didn’t have enough money to get the bus to the city centre 45 minutes from he lives?
No? Not lighthearted enough?

SleepQuest33 · 13/01/2023 20:05

Diligently update his monthly budget spreadsheet.
carefully reconcile his bank statement against said budget
keep track of his bank balance every week to make sure no unexpected moments have gone through

(you can see what I tend to do once a week!)

What do you think he had to do that he didn't want to?

Tamarindtree · 13/01/2023 20:08

Never once felt his glass was half full.

RedToothBrush · 13/01/2023 20:08

Changed the loo roll, wiped the toilet and scrubbed it himself

Scrapped ice off the car windscreen

Wrote his own Christmas cards

Gone to a gig and stood on the front row

Sat down the park drinking vodka age 14

Balanced radiators

Run a kids party without a paid employee or entertainer

Survived the competition in the yellow label frenzy in Tesco

Panicked cos you've got water leaking and you don't know a decent plumber.

Actually been to IKEA instead of sending someone else to go and eat the meatballs for you.

Worried about whether you are in the correct catchment area for the best local school

Worried about failing his exams

Scrapped dog shit off his shoes after stepping in it.

Learnt how to use a washing machine

Gone round multiple shops looking for bog roll and other items when everyone did panic buying at the start of COVID.

Understood the irony in Pulp's Common People

Had self awareness

Paid his own way

RedToothBrush · 13/01/2023 20:09

Queued for hours at passport control

Lindy2 · 13/01/2023 20:11
  • Rummaged through the reduced section in the supermarket
  • Declined an invitation to go somewhere due to cost
  • Worn second hand clothing
  • Taken responsibility for himself
Alighttouchonthetiller · 13/01/2023 20:20

Told the truth.

LavenderHillMob · 13/01/2023 20:22

Treated a minimum wage worker with courtesy and respect.

Looked for stuff to sell on eBay to pay for a child's school trip.

Worked a late shift and then stayed to work the night shift because the night staff went off sick.

Spent a weekend catching up on all the housework that didn't get done in the week.

Blossomtoes · 13/01/2023 20:25

Sat down the park drinking vodka age 14

I suspect he’s probably done those two.

What standing on the front room in the standing room only section? Sat at the front at a all seated gig maybe but not stood.

You didn’t stipulate any of that. I bet he’s done what you said in the first place and nobody would have the balls to tell him to sit down.

SnowAndIceLobelia · 13/01/2023 20:31

had his line manager scream their head off at him because he is a 'fucking migrant and the firm ought to be British jobs for British people' despite him being a qualified lawyer and working in an employment law firm that ought to know better.

[I'd laugh but it actually happened to me in the past 6 months]

MockneyReject · 13/01/2023 20:31

Put the £15 Amazon gift card his employer gave him in recognition of 'going above and beyond, during lockdown' towards a fake 'Oodie for his kid, to save putting the heating on, this winter.
