Things Harry has never done

So Hazza laments that he “almost never carried money, never owned a car, never carried a house key, never once ordered anything online, never received a single box from Amazon, almost never travelled on the Underground” etc etc

Which got me to wondering what other everyday pleasures he’s missed out on - off the top of my head the list could include:

  • lost an afternoon on hold to a call centre
  • attempted to give stuff away on Freecycle/FB
  • tracked down the doorstep in the photo where your parcel’s been delivered
  • been on a rail replacement bus service
  • tried to cancel a gym membership

Any more? (lighthearted, of course)

I agree with you, @onlylarkin

I suspect he's never had the experience of having a tip of a room, sleeping in an unmade bed, or doing his own laundry. So - lack of personal privacy.

EthicalNonMahogany · 13/01/2023 18:33

Waited 5 hours to get to the front for his favourite band at Glastonbury.

Gone on Ryanair.

Been stopped and searched for being a young guy of the wrong face colour who happens to be driving a car at night.

Wondered if someone would return his call - in either a professional or personal context!

Diclofenac · 13/01/2023 18:38

Sat in economy next to an obese pisshead with a flatulence problem🤢 13 hours flight.

BarryStyles · 13/01/2023 18:39
  • tried to get a reply from the person who looks after the waiting list for kids swimming lessons at the local sports centre
  • pondered the nutritious meal you can get the ingredients for between the bus stop from work and school pick up, can be cooked and eaten (by kid 2) in precisely 43 minutes after getting home and before they get picked up for x activity, and can be heated up again by kid 1 when they get home in 2 hrs time while you are out picking up kid 2.

Arf at unidentified item in bagging area 😆

Waited at a bus stop in the rain and the dark after a long day's work, knowing the bus may or may not turn up anytime soon, knowing that you need to preapre and cook tea as soon as you get in and then start prepping for the next day (which will be a repeat of the previous day).

Been mugged at said bus stop.
Queued up with hundreds of others to board a plane.
Commuted daily on the bus/underground/train with his nose in some stranger's armpit.
Scraped ice off his car windscreen on a frosty morning.
Queued at the post office.

Talapia · 13/01/2023 18:45

Put coins in his electric meter.

Scrubbed mould off the walls of his house, which is damp as he can't afford to heat it.

Had a uni job at McDonalds.

Struggled to live on his student loan.

Apologise.

Think

Onedayatatime22 · 13/01/2023 18:52

Popped to the corner shop in pjs to get a pint of milk, only to find he's left keys on kitchen counter, locked himself out and hence remained stuck on doorstep in front of neighbours waiting for a locksmith... for ages - the shame.

Anything he didn’t want to.

Thread's over! We have the perfect response.

Redblanky · 13/01/2023 18:55

Had to work out how to manage without a car because someone drove into the back of you at the same time as trying to organise repairs and insurance and get to work.

StephanieSuperpowers · 13/01/2023 18:56

Created a budget spreadsheet which shows that there's no point in thinking about getting the hair done in the next three months.

notsosoftanymore · 13/01/2023 18:58

BarryStyles don't waste your life and damage your health with angry thoughts about a person you actually know nothing about, will never meet and are using to avoid addressing the serious ills around us. I bet you read the Daily Express or Mail, newspapers owned by millionaires interested in keeping you in your box. Ask yourself why this matters so much to you, it's so sad to see.

idonotmind · 13/01/2023 18:59

Sat in a GP waiting room

Couldn't decide what to have for dinner AND STILL HAD TO COOK IT HIMSELF

Changed nappies in the middle of the night/day/on an aeroplane

Worried about being unemployed/getting a job

Worn uncomfortable shoes

Had anyone say 'no' to him

notsosoftanymore · 13/01/2023 18:59

Blossomtoes if you don't think this is politics, think again.....

Harry never lived.

I believe that every normal thing we do day to day is living. Some days it sucks, others it's great but when we look back every experience, good and bad, makes us who we are today. The stories we tell about stupid stuff we did when young may make us laugh or cringe as we get older, but they still form is.

I don't blame him really, to want a life different than what he had. So many people see his life as one of great privilege, but no amount of money can replace a Grandmothers hug or having a mother see you grown up.

I don't either, but he could have had a perfectly lovely life on what his mother and great grandmother left him if he wanted something slightly closer to normality "This" just creates more of his old life for him

Spectre8 · 13/01/2023 19:03

Had to listen to dial up Internet for minutes wondering if it will connect. Or had to shout to whoever was on the phone asking how long will the be

Probably had someone do it for him

😆

Lots of people don’t have a mother to see them grow up,or a grandmothers hug.You know all the kids in care😏

LindorDoubleChoc · 13/01/2023 19:31

Decided not to put the heating on even if cold.

Done his own or anyone else's laundry.

Approached tradesmen for quotes. Waited for quotes. Shopped around for quotes.

Had a go at DIY because quotes were too high.

Waited for 45 minutes to speak to Vodafone and then got cut off.

Waited in A&E for hours for himself or one of his children.
