Are we all going to sidestep the fact that 'gold digger' Meghan was paying for everything.
'we don't have money for her'

She was paying for heaters, lights and sofas. You name it.
All the while we are being fed that she is a 'gold digger' who has come into a privileged family.

Exactly. I thought mentioning it rather undercut their “poor us in the tiny hole of a house” story. Presumably they bought cheap furniture because they knew they were only going to be living with it for a few months until their luxury accommodation was selected and refurbished for them. So hard done by….

I note Harry doesn’t my mention whether Meghan was reimbursed for buying the furniture, which I think was very likely.

Sofas they could take with them to Frogmore or wherever ?

If she was re-embursed, he probably would not have even mentioned this cost.

How was Charles financially abusive? Was he legally required to fund his adult son even after he quit the family business?

Harry stopped being a working royal. That means losing the income that comes of it. He had his inheritance from Diana, hadn't he?

No she ran a mile when she realised that H has no control over his finances.

But MM is the 'gold digger'.

Chelsy Davy comes from money. 'Her father Charles was one of the largest private landowners in Zimbabwe, and was reported to own 800,000 acres (320,000 ha) of land.'

She also owns two businesses herself. I don't think she was gold-digging.

trucklebrunch · 13/01/2023 11:14

All the royal brides families paid for their own wedding dresses.

....but yes, where was Harry's inheritance money / army payout / monthly salary, living cost allowance to pay for household goods.

Wheresthebeach · 13/01/2023 11:15

Harry has millions, he should bloody pay for things. MM is a grown woman, again with less millions, but still wealthy. Why is the world shouldn't they pay for stuff?

notanotheroneagain · 13/01/2023 11:15

REP22 · 13/01/2023 10:42

I understand that Harry is notoriously miserly. Apparently Chelsy Davy regularly had to pay the whole tab when she and Harry went out together.

Was he miserly though , or his money was controlled?

Why are they making out they are skint.

The money pit alone is estimated to cost £3m a year to run.

Factor in the 24/7 security they expected us to fund and even the conservative guesstimates of £36m in the bank starts to look a bit flimsy.

Because he has been brought up as a spoilt entitled prince and she thought she was hopping on the gravy train 🤷🏼‍♀️

Doesn't Harry get a military pension, or some payment as an ex officer?

Although am sure that the RF are really controlling about money.

Diana was divorced from Charles when she died. Is there any evidence that Charles or the RF had control over her estate left to her children? I would have thought that if Harry did not receive his mother's money, due to him at the age of 30, he would have made a song and dance of this by now. He stated very clearly in the Oprah interview that he has his mother's money.

He was bankrolled by at least £2.3million from Charles every year until he ceased to be a working royal.

Charles’s annual report, released by Clarence House in June 2021, shows he gave the Sussexes and Cambridges a share of £4.45million over that financial period described as for "funding [their] activities". H&M's share covered their first 4 months after leaving.

He received £35,000-a-year Army wage for ten years. An army person said on another thread that he wouldn't be eligible for a pension at this point.

I have never considered her a gold digger - just a social climber

Linlaw · 13/01/2023 11:19

They both have millions. The only reason they have cheap furniture is because that is what they chose.

Diana left him something like £6 million. A huge amount to us paupers but he won’t feel very wealthy in his circles with just that to live off for the rest of his days.

How do you avoid accusations of social climbing when you marry a prince?

Mirabai · 13/01/2023 11:21

Ime the royals are all incredibly tight. A friend of mine who runs a couture studio made 2 dresses back in the day for Princess Margaret. She came to pick them up said she didn’t like them so wouldn’t pay for them but took them anyway. Then my friend saw her wearing both in society pages.

Equally, I have some good friends who live in Gloucestershire near Highgrove. About 15 years ago Charles put it about in the neighbourhood that he’d like a 60th birthday party organised for him, which it then became clear that he expected all the neighbours to pay for. And everyone did, because many are right wing monarchists. Apart from my friends who can’t stand him.

queenofarles · 13/01/2023 11:21

Proof?

he didn’t pay for his vegas weekend stay, Steve Wynn did years later .

i believe Meghan bought her own jewellery for the wedding , the beautiful Cartier bracelet and earrings ,
but Charles paid for the dress.

Yes, we all know about her 'wealth'. Her father took advantage of apartheid. Then wen to Zimbabwe and and colluded with corrupt Mugabe government to get a contract to kill big game (Lions/Elephants etc.). He then made sure that same country gets nothing back, by tax avoidance.

Yes, she is super rich alright, doesn't look like she is willing to share her 'riches' either.

Wasn't Frogmorr renovated to the cost of a few million by the tax payer? Although they are planning paid it back I believe as the media went with it.
I think for many who believe bad of her they are saying she wouldn't have touched him with a barge pole if he wasn't a prince. Money comes from fame in many cases.

I was under the impression such jewellery is borrowed, and the jeweller is happy to do it as it’s obviously prestigious marketing to have it on display at a royal wedding

I love stories about Princess Margaret It's terrible your friend lost out though, she was the ultimate blagger !

No, we don't know how much was assigned to him. It says 4.5M to him, William and 'miscellaneous'. So we have no idea how much is going to whom. Naturally, William will have more as he is heir with bigger family. Out of that money it sounds like H had allowance for his work suits.

They’re both millionaires in their own right so I have no idea why they were buying ex display sofas or furniture from IKEA, but I guess that’s up to them 🤷🏻‍♀️

Untrue. The money was split and 2.3 million per year is correct, paid for houses, expenses, travel etc was and is perfectly normal.

I had thought the Cartier jewellery was said to be her wedding gift from Charles? Kate got a similar diamond bracelet/necklace/earrings set on her wedding.
