Are we all going to sidestep the fact that 'gold digger' Meghan was paying for everything.
'we don't have money for her'

She was paying for heaters, lights and sofas. You name it.
All the while we are being fed that she is a 'gold digger' who has come into a privileged family.

He was also left a sizeable sum by the queen mother, in fact she left him more than William as he would not likely become king. So I guess there's another little nest egg to fall back on. More than many of us could ever dream of in a lifetime.

It's a bit ambiguous, but she might have been directing the "fuck off" at Harry.

It was a fuck off at Harry. Very firmly at Harry

I absolutely did not.
Though I do find it weird that this white blond woman was not in the slightest implied as such, while the woman of colour was seen as such.

Why would she be?

She and her family were loaded! What's colour got to do with it?

next post - my dressing room is bigger than Frogmore Cottage? Oh the humanity!!!

You have to ask Camilla to give you details on this, since she used Harry's room as a dressing room.

He was 28!!

I haven't kept my children's rooms as shrines either - the minute they were out I nabbed their wardrobes!

Oh wow!!! I quite like arguing with this level of crazy. It's utterly hilarious and hours of entertainment to see people twisting themselves into some of the batshittery.

It's almost reassuring to know that no matter how bonkers you know yourself to be there's always someone out there who can well and truly out class you.

I don't thnk anyone on the planet think the royal family are "pure". It is many hundreds of years since we had the divine right of kings in the UK either. The lack of purity from Henry VIII on in fact is a notable feature of our royals except a few (Queen Elizabeth II etc); but a lot of us are glad we have a royal family and probably in the UK mostly stand more on the part of King Charles and Prince William who rightly are making no comment.

I am very glad they are saying nothing. it is veyr wise. Prince Harry is apparently saying it may be abusive that they don't comment but that is just like a cross family member wanting a row but no one will respond to them and then they stamp their feet and get cross (but you cannot row with yourself). They have no legal obligation to respond and they are very wise not to do so.

Prince Philip had the answer as to why the RF had problems. He simply said, “We are a family!” The thing is their problems have played out to a worldwide audience. Many families have a Harry but he or she doesn’t get the attention of the press.

Aphrathestorm · 14/01/2023 09:28

H probably doesn't know the difference between a credit card and a debit card.

I imagine this is something that's been lost in translation.

In USA in 90s they didn't use debit cards when I visited. It was cash or credit card.

HaroldeVwilliam · 14/01/2023 10:07

I've not read the thread but I strongly suspect that Harry has been crystal clear about his lodgings/sofa's/and for a prince a relatively humble living standards to show precisely that.
This is what Megan saw ...not a Prince swishing about like Charles at highgrove!!

She was actually putting her hand into her self lined pocket.

However what's wrong with any of it .. nothing. Many couples start out in smaller more humble houses than they end up in later!
It's sweet.
I didn't see him complaining just being super clear that they weren't living in a sumptuous palace like we see in films?

HaroldeVwilliam · 14/01/2023 10:08

@xenia @Crabo

Maybe like the furore after his own book where he called the queen cold etc Charles knows it will eventually die down and go away. ..

ancientgran · 14/01/2023 10:33

Why didn't Harry buy himself a house with his millions? He's managed that now so why did he expect a free house here? He has no shame.

coodawoodashooda · 14/01/2023 10:39

CocoLux · 13/01/2023 09:10

He's notoriously tight

Why do you think that?

Because the whole family got a free house.

Imagine they're a "normal" family. Your wealthy grandma have your cousin's, and brother a free house upon marriage or allowed you to live in one of theirs free of charge. As per family tradition going back forever. You would expect a free house too.

BunnyFantastic · 15/01/2023 09:06

You would expect a free house too.
They got one. They lived in Nott Cott for less time than W&K did after their marriage, and had Frogmore. W&K lived in Nott Cott with George - I believe H&M moved before Archie was born.

I wish we’d have had a free house when we just got married. We had to make do with a grotty flat in a red light district because it was all we could get. And we had to pay rent as well. Poor Megan and Harry!

One of the most exspensive equestrian pursuits. I wonder who pays livery, feed bills , farrier and vets too

Yes, I wondered about all the other costs too. Plus there's also the transportation costs between games and various other things like tack/clothing/. It's definitely not a game your average working class, council estate dweller can afford to play.

@queenofarles "no , rich people spend money , they just buy the best and it lasts for years and years,
my father is a firm believer in buying the best , best cars , best furniture , houses . My parents hardly replace things , they don’t need to. "

Sam Vymes boots theory, writ large. Sadly the best a person living in real poverty can afford to buy is of far less quality than that which your father is able to afford, who in turn probably/possibly couldn't afford to buy the same quality as Harry, if he'd open his wallet.
That said, I have known very wealthy people be as tight as a ducks, so there is that attitude too amongst the rich.

@ghjklo " refused for M by Charles stating he "couldn't afford it" even though it was his duty to provide it! "

Why on earth was it Charles' responsibility/duty to pay for her? They were already getting money and had the benefit of a rent/council tax free house, that anyone else ( with a bit of class/good taste ) would have given their right arms for and particularly bearing in mind, she moved from a rented home, so the fact that she was now rent free, should have been a brucie bonus in itself. Perhaps she ought to have taken the time to ask before she married halfwit, what they would have to live on and where they would live after they were married, if she didn't like the answer, she could have lumped it, no one forced her to marry the halfwitted one.

If he/they are trying to crack on that they lived in absolute poverty, they might like to consider that those in real poverty mostly don't have access to a credit card and in any case, did no one tell them there would likely be a sale on at DFS!

ghjklo · 16/01/2023 11:47

@EpicChaos when you become a working royal, you give up your job in return for housing and living costs from the sovereign grant. That is what the grant is for. It covers more than a free house. There are other living costs associated - clothing, bills, security, transport etc etc. Edward, Anne, W & K all have these things paid for. Why should Charles single out M & H not to receive the living costs part of it (food, clothing, travel etc). It's not about the fact that they had a free house anyway - it's about it being his legal duty to provide it, as per the rules of the crown. If you can't understand how that's a dereliction of duty, and unfair then that is wilful ignorance. Charles said this the day before they got married!

EpicChaos · 16/01/2023 16:19

@ghjklo And they were being funded for those things to the tune of several million £s per year! Extras that they decided they wanted of their own accord were absolutely their own responsibility to pay for! As I said, if she didn't like that idea, she could have stayed single!

ghjklo · 16/01/2023 17:09

@EpicChaos if this were the case then why would harry have raised it as a specific point that they weren't, and noted clearly that Charles had declined to allow it? In their chat the day before the wedding?

EpicChaos · 16/01/2023 17:29

Because @ghjklo he seems, to put it mildly, a bit loose and flexible on facts. For example, when he told oprah that his dad had cut him off - aside from the fact that he was a 36 year old man that still expected to be paid despite giving up the job, he failed to tell oprah that he had been paid that year, far beyond what he'd given the impression he'd received.
Personally and to be very honest, if that guy told me that the sky was blue and grass was green, I'd go outside and check for myself! I wouldn't take his word for anything and the only person to blame for that, is him, himself!

CoolShoeshine · 16/01/2023 17:55

I bet the reason it went on Meghan’s credit card was because Harry and the other royals don’t have one. They go to posh shops with royal warrants, point and things they want and get a bill sent to Buckingham Palace (or a freebie if the shop owner wants to suck up to them).
