Yes, I wondered about all the other costs too. Plus there's also the transportation costs between games and various other things like tack/clothing/. It's definitely not a game your average working class, council estate dweller can afford to play.
@queenofarles "no , rich people spend money , they just buy the best and it lasts for years and years,
my father is a firm believer in buying the best , best cars , best furniture , houses . My parents hardly replace things , they don’t need to. "
Sam Vymes boots theory, writ large. Sadly the best a person living in real poverty can afford to buy is of far less quality than that which your father is able to afford, who in turn probably/possibly couldn't afford to buy the same quality as Harry, if he'd open his wallet.
That said, I have known very wealthy people be as tight as a ducks, so there is that attitude too amongst the rich.
@ghjklo " refused for M by Charles stating he "couldn't afford it" even though it was his duty to provide it! "
Why on earth was it Charles' responsibility/duty to pay for her? They were already getting money and had the benefit of a rent/council tax free house, that anyone else ( with a bit of class/good taste ) would have given their right arms for and particularly bearing in mind, she moved from a rented home, so the fact that she was now rent free, should have been a brucie bonus in itself. Perhaps she ought to have taken the time to ask before she married halfwit, what they would have to live on and where they would live after they were married, if she didn't like the answer, she could have lumped it, no one forced her to marry the halfwitted one.
If he/they are trying to crack on that they lived in absolute poverty, they might like to consider that those in real poverty mostly don't have access to a credit card and in any case, did no one tell them there would likely be a sale on at DFS!
