Will Harry go to the Coronation

Not sure. He was asked this at the interview. He didnt give an answer either way.I got the impression he wanted an apology first or at least a discussion on his grievances. Charles has said he is invited. But several papers yesterday had articles saying he will be invited but is expected not to come. Can't really expect all this news and people not to wonder.

I also read if he goes he won't have an active role. It's usual for all the Dukes to kneel before the new monarch and swear loyalty but only William will be doing this apparently.

Honestly anything is possible. It would be better not for him, but him and Meghan are not exactly known now for being rational.

Pugdogmom · 11/01/2023 12:21

If the media are to be believed, he will be invited, but I can't see how on earth he could go after this. Would be very hypocritical to attend IMO.

Newwardrobe · 11/01/2023 12:30

I don't think he should attend, whether he thinks that though 🤷‍♀️

IcedPurple · 11/01/2023 12:31

Are you sure Charles said he is invited?

I'm pretty certain no official statement has been made on this. In any case since it's a state event isn't it the government which issues invitations, not Charles?

Lindy2 · 11/01/2023 12:37

They may invite him out of duty and to try to be seen as being reasonable despite his behaviour towards them.

He should decline. It should be obvious to him that he should leave the Royal family alone and no one actually wants him to be there.

It's likely he and Meghan will attend because obviously they like feeling important and being in the limelight. They'll have Netflix in tow and then will bleat on about how they weren't made to feel special enough and no one gave them hugs and kisses.

They've got to keep creating more crap to tell as their truth because surely when you're already having to include frost bitten willies you're already scraping the bottom of the barrell.

maranella · 11/01/2023 12:43

God, I hope not! I appreciate that King Charles will invite him, as a) he's a decent sort of fellow and b) whatever horrors Harry has visited upon his family, he's still Charles' son. But I do hope that, for once, Harry does the decent thing and doesn't show his face in this country. And if he does, I hope he gets pelted with rotten eggs.

Viviennemary · 11/01/2023 12:43

You are right. I don't think Charles said he was invited. Only a 'source' said he was invited. But I certainly hear somebody say on TV news a while ago that he would be 8nvited. That was a week or two ago. But things have moved on since then. I don't think he should go but who knows if he will or not.

The focus will be on them as always and would take away from the solemnity of the occasion. Imagine the press speculation. Did William make eye contact. Did Camilla. Did Kate look daggers at them. Princess Anne. After that cheeky comment in the book about cutting ribbons at a horse show.

EdithWeston · 11/01/2023 13:15

I find it inconceivable that he wouldn't be invited.

The rest is up to him

If he doesn't come to the Coronation, I suspect he'll never set foot in the country again. Which is fine, of course, but does also mean his DC won't have much if any of relationship with his family. Which I think is a shame, but I'm sure their life will be full of other things

Newwardrobe · 11/01/2023 13:22

Did Charles change the ceremony so that only William has to swear allegiance to him to make it easier for Harry if he does attend?

hopeishere · 11/01/2023 13:22

I think they will be invited and will attend. Their link to the RF is what keeps them in the limelight- everything they talk about is framed within the context of being part of adjacent to the royal family. They need the link to survive financially and with the profile they want to have. Without the RF links they are an ex services / former actress with little of import to say (despite their belief otherwise).

100% this. I think that even if they weren't expected to attend, they would have the brass neck to turn up. And probably think the crowds are all out for them Grin

Somehow I don't get the impression that pandering to Harry is high on Charles' 'to do' list right now!

This decision will have been made by a committee, not just Charles. All part of 'modernising the monarchy'. Surely Harry would approve?

DeeplyMovingExperience · 11/01/2023 13:30

The RF are damed if they do, damned if they don't.

Either way it will be turned into a bitch-fest of victimisation.

Shame, really. Anyone with any experience of toxic family dynamics knows that there's no coming back from the shit show H&M have unleashed.

Crabo · 11/01/2023 13:31

I hope not. Most people, outside his woke brainwashed fan club, will not want him or his wife here, and they will just be a distraction, moaning and complaining about their hard lot in life as Californian millionaires. Frankly the less we see of them the better.

SomethingLessIdentifiable · 11/01/2023 13:31

I think they’ll be invited and they will attend because they need new material for more books, interviews and docu-series.

I doubt they’ll be included in any family gatherings or social stuff before/afterwards. They won’t if Charles and William have any sense whatsoever. The trust is gone.

The relationship will all be very formal and distant from now on.

CarriMarie · 11/01/2023 13:32

I think the issue of Harry attending is complicated by the fact that the coronation is being held on Archie's 4th birthday, so it would be unlikely Harry would come over without Megan and kids, but obviously Charles and the Palace were fully aware of this clash when the date was chosen.

It will be interesting to see what happens with Frogmore. It seems silly to keep up the lease if Harry is rarely if ever going to return to the country.

I wonder if he kept it up so that he could be legally 'domiciled', which was a requirement of the Counsellor of State role? Now that's more or less gone, a British address may not be needed anymore.

SomethingLessIdentifiable · 11/01/2023 13:34

Isn’t Eugenie living in Frogmore now?

They have a house in Windsor. Why not celebrate his birthday there? It's not like a 4 year old has any concept of dates.

And I don't think you can expect a major state event like a Coronation, whose date will be decided by a committee taking into account all sorts of factors, to be influenced by a 4 year old's birthday.

KnickerlessParsons · 11/01/2023 13:35

I'm pretty sure PH will need a U.K. address for tax/visa/legal reasons. He isn't an American citizen yet.

She mostly lives in Portugal now. When she's in Britain I think she lives in one of the KP homes, perhaps that notorious IKEA furnished dump Nott Cott?

maranella · 11/01/2023 13:37

The RF aren't much worried about large houses standing empty for months on end @IcedPurple and Frogmore was given to them by the Queen so it's theirs. They also paid the £2.4 million for its renovation. And no, Eugenie and Jack moved out a while ago. I think they're living in Portugal now?

vjg13 · 11/01/2023 13:40

I think he'll attend, not least to gather more material for future books/interviews.

Frogmore certainly is not theirs. Harry holds a lease on it, which is renewed on an annual basis. It's due to expire in May I believe.

Oh okay! I thought when the Queen gave a property to members of her family it was theirs until she (or the next monarch) either took it away or the inhabitant died. I know there has been talk of Prince Andrew being evicted from Royal Lodge, although I'll be amazed if that happens.
