Will Harry go to the Coronation

Not sure. He was asked this at the interview. He didnt give an answer either way.I got the impression he wanted an apology first or at least a discussion on his grievances. Charles has said he is invited. But several papers yesterday had articles saying he will be invited but is expected not to come. Can't really expect all this news and people not to wonder.

I also read if he goes he won't have an active role. It's usual for all the Dukes to kneel before the new monarch and swear loyalty but only William will be doing this apparently.

I think they’ll be invited and they will attend because they need new material for more books, interviews and docu-series.

I doubt they’ll be included in any family gatherings or social stuff before/afterwards. They won’t if Charles and William have any sense whatsoever. The trust is gone.

The relationship will all be very formal and distant from now on.

This is precisely why they should not be invited. The Royal family not commenting on the many revelations isn't enough. They need to feel real hard consequences of their behaviour.

Oh okay! I thought when the Queen gave a property to members of her family it was theirs until she (or the next monarch) either took it away or the inhabitant died. I know there has been talk of Prince Andrew being evicted from Royal Lodge, although I'll be amazed if that happens.

Of course Andrew was her son and Harry a grandson, and not directly in line.

The lease on Frogmore was on a very short term basis, which is unusual. That makes me think that the plan was maybe for Charles to gift them a much grander residence when he became king. But they found freedom from all that.

Did Charles change the ceremony so that only William has to swear allegiance to him to make it easier for Harry if he does attend?

Maybe that's part of the cost cutting exercise. Plus there are quite a lot of dukes and earls so it might get boring for a televised audience. And there's always a possibility that a duke or earl might kick off. Always best minimise all possible trouble points.

Yeah, that's a good point. I fear it would look petty if Charles was to evict them from the only home Harry has in the UK though and he's hardly going to be welcome to stay with any of his relatives. I think I'd be inclined to let them keep their modest home in Windsor, if I were him.

MarshaMelrose · 11/01/2023 13:51

I think the issue of Harry attending is complicated by the fact that the coronation is being held on Archie's 4th birthday, so it would be unlikely Harry would come over without Megan and kids

Are children's birthdays that big a deal that they influence adults work and commitments? Surely there must be tens of thousands of both mothers and fathers that miss their children's birthdays in person.

TheUsualChaos · 11/01/2023 13:52

He will definitely be invited to the coronation but suspect he will chose the more dramatic option of not attending rather than attending and trying to make it all about him and Megan.

Whether or not you like the RF, the coronation is a big moment in history and sadly I suspect it is going to be tainted by the H&M saga.

ShamedBySiri · 11/01/2023 13:52

The Telegraph yesterday had a leader stating that he cannot be allowed to attend and citing precedents (Duke of Windsor and Queen Caroline).

I agree, he shouldn't be allowed to attend after all this.

Will Harry go to the Coronation
ALeapOfFaith · 11/01/2023 13:53

I think they've every intention of coming over but, whether they show their faces at the coronation is another matter.

After all, what on earth was all the bulls*t about 'we love Susan Hussey, we both want to meet with her to show her the error of her ways' if not to provide a reason for them to come over? Assuming it's safe to say Susan isn't going to be jumping on a plane to join them for a jolly in the Montecito mansion anytime soon?

If he gives a straight 'no' answer now, there's no opportunity to overshadow the event. Much better to maintain speculation, be offended if an invite doesn't turn up, or continue to dominate the headlines with the 'will he won't he' rubbish until the actual day.

I'd give him back Nott Cott. Grin

I'm not sure anyone else would want it after seeing them snog for the cameras on the kitchen cabinetry, arses perched on the worktops. I hope Eugenie got the surfaces sanitised before preparing food there.

TeaMistress · 11/01/2023 14:01

After all the nasty lies and vitriol and spite and hatred that have been spewed from Harry and his wife in their multiple books / tell all interviews / podcasts / documentaries they need to stay away from the coronation. Harry's family probably don't want them here and the people in this country don't want them here. If either of them have a shred of grace or humility they won't attend even if invited. Why on earth would Harry's family want any further contact with people who are hurling constant abuse at them and violating their privacy and exploiting them for money.

whattodo1975 · 11/01/2023 14:01

They will go. They need content for 2nd season of Netflix and he will want to turn out another book.

WhatATimeToBeAlive · 11/01/2023 14:03

Hope not. Lordy, can you imagine the reception they'll get from the general public?!

ALeapOfFaith · 11/01/2023 14:07

I think he'd love playing the arrogant villian to the crowds. Like a regal Craig Revel Horwood😂

A ‘clash’ between a Coronation and a 4 year olds birthday, don’t make me laugh.

bakalava · 11/01/2023 14:09

They are now getting their kicks out of being notorious. It's very dark, all that.

Well I hope any crowd dissent is specific- "Fuck Off Harry/Meghan you wankers" instead of general booing, because they'll be with other Royals and I wouldn't want them to take it to heart as meant for them.

Placards might be useful.

trucklebrunch · 11/01/2023 14:19

If invited, they will go. They need to maintain they're link to the RF for future books and interviews. They need to be seen in photos with senior members of the RF and if at all possible, appear on the balcony of Buckingham Palace etc.

I sincerely hope they never get invited to another Royal event and that they never return to the UK. Their presence will overshadow and make a mockery of the coronation.

However, he is Charles' son and he loves him and I think will continue inviting him and trying to include them until his dying day.

Possibly the availability of the actual participants, various heads of state and a public holiday to factor in was of more concern than Harry’s kids birthday clash. Jeezo.

They’ll get an invite, he’ll say he will attend on the condition they ‘take accountability’ - Harryspeak for ‘accept my version of events and tell everyone you believe me’ and he’ll spin a few chapters for the next book out of it.

He shouldn’t accept, but he will, to hijack the day and make it all about them. And because he isn’t going to drop his royal title, he bloody loves that. As referenced by his comment when questioned by one of the American interviewers. Hates the Crown, loves the half crown.

The man who wore a nazi uniform wants to show others the path away from racism. Brilliant 🤣🤣🤣🤣

I hope they don't get invited but they probably will. And they will go because royal adjacency is their only currency. However, it's a rapidly depreciating one. This will surely be their last major royal event. And as the royals go on royalling without them, their relevance will decline. On some level, they must know this.
