Prince Harry - sounds articulate and quite intelligent

There seems to be an accepted view that Prince Harry is very dim and unintelligent but he seems to be to be really quite articulate and have a wide vocabulary (antagonist, complicit.) I've thought this before when he made a speech at the Invictus games but assumed it was written for him and he was reading it but the answers to the questions in the interview couldn't all possibly have been learnt,

I agree but that isn't a popular opinion on this forum

AppleKatie · 08/01/2023 22:40

Really? He didn’t sound that way to me. He was very hard to watch.

His vocabulary is fairly wide but that is not in itself a marker of intelligence if you consider the life experience and education he has had.

RewildingAmbridge · 08/01/2023 22:42

😂 posh accent doesn't equal intelligence. He sounds like he's regurgitating life coaching/therapy jargon

Bigbadfish · 08/01/2023 22:42

Well he wasn't raised on the Gurnos Estate was he?
I'd be rather alarmed after the pure breeding, countless amount of money spent on his upbringing and education if he wasn't able to string coherent sentences together.

charabang · 08/01/2023 22:43

He doesn't strike me as particularly articulate. I think he has a well rehearsed narrative that he is happy to spout. When challenged by Bradbury he was quick to bring the conversation back to that narrative.

Clunky

I think the ability to express ideas coherently and cogently and using language precisely is a marker of verbal intelligence.

He knew what all the questions were going to be in advance so he was obviously able to prepare.

RosesAndHellebores · 08/01/2023 22:45

He's well educated. That doesn't mean he's intelligent and capable of critical thought. It just means he can present himself reasonably well.

WerkinMum · 08/01/2023 22:46

Meghan's words are coming out of his mouth.

That's where you're wrong.

The questions will have been pre approved and the answers prepared well in advance. Bradly was clearly not 'permitted' to dig deeper or ask unscripted questions. This wasn't really an 'interview' so much as a chance for Harry to once more play the victim unchallenged.

As for 'intelligent', let's just say we have different standards.

Leafytrees · 08/01/2023 22:47

He doesn't sound very intelligent if you look past the accent and half decent vocabulary. He's not even unusually articulate for someone who went to private school. Think about the education and opportunities he's had...

Badger1970 · 08/01/2023 22:47

He sounds brain washed, not intelligent.

ArseInTheDogBowl · 08/01/2023 22:47

The examples you've given- 'antagonist', 'complicit'- don't suggest a wide vocabulary but are instead are the often parroted words of a man who is continually looking to blame others and who sees slights and aggressions everywhere.

I thought he was incredibly inarticulate and it reminded me of a job interview when someone is struggling really to give answers of any depth, meaning or detail.

pigalow27 · 08/01/2023 22:48

Diana was considered unintelligent too but every letter of hers that I've seen reproduced in the media was always perfectly spelt and punctuated. Looks to me like she'd be achieving at least a grade 7 or 8 at GCSE now!

He should have put some of that intelligence to the naming of his book 📕

Spare is too non descript.

‘Twat’ would be too misogynistic.

‘Prick’ more like it. But wait one more…’Wanker’ it’s got the right ring to it and sums up his whinging persona just right.

Quoting conversations with his brother and wife from 5 yrs ago does indeed make him an utter wanker.

Leemoe · 08/01/2023 22:49

I think he sounded like somebody with a death wish.

This. Plus he's certainly drunk the kool-aid on critical race theory, as his repetition ad nauseam of 'unconscious bias' and its role in racism shows.

Streamside · 08/01/2023 22:49

He was hard to follow and very quick to turn back on the interviewer on occasions. A lot of what he said was drivel and well rehearsed, it would be good to see him going through a proper interview.

You should look at examples of the vocabulary used by most people on social media and the difficulties school students have accessing the necessary reading material at GCSE because of paucity of vocabulary and comprehension - see Alex Quigley's book 'Closing the Vocabulary Gap' and how this is a huge barrier in education.

Many many contradictions and hypo rescues displayed across all of the interviews, the Netflix documentaries, the book etc.

Particularly laughed at him saying to Bradby that he wants conversations with his brother and father to remain private 😂😂😂 Literally no self awareness whatsoever.

ArseInTheDogBowl · 08/01/2023 22:52

Hypo rescues? Hypocrisies!!!

Flixon · 08/01/2023 22:52

It was awful. I only watched 10 mins and then turned off. It wasn’t an interview with a journalist, it was a platform to promote his book. No challenge, no awkward questions and no depth…

Creativebee · 08/01/2023 22:52

I have to disagree, he sounded intelligent but what he was saying wasn’t. I’m referring to the comment in regards to the claims made on Oprah that the royal family were racist, he denied it then said that it was the media that twisted it 🤔. He’s been banging on about the royal family/palace/institution never correcting anything that the media printed but neither did he! He let that story run so that the public believed that the royal family were racist.

MrsClatterbuck · 08/01/2023 22:53

It would be a completely different interview if conducted by Emily Matilis. Now that would be an interview and a half
