They haven't backtracked on the racism. They said what had been said to them about Archie. They did not say that was racism.

I think it was racism. But plenty of other people on MN did not.

Jennybeans401 · 08/01/2023 23:25

I doubt these leaks have come from senior royals. Most likely RF have confided in someone or others have overheard conversations and have sold the information on.

Or, and he's a blinder, is Harry projecting because he and Meghan leaked stories to the press and think the same of the RF?

Pottyaboutplants · 08/01/2023 23:25

I agree. It is an excellent summary.

Puzzledandpissedoff · 08/01/2023 23:25

I think the weight he placed on unconscious bias is more to do with his past actions

Very probably, though I'd love to see anyone on here spout the kind of racist filth Harry's done, then try to pass it off as "unconscious bias" Hmm

I had to switch the self absorbed, responsibility-avoiding drivel off in the end - will catch the transcript later - but mostly I'm still howling at the comments about talks with his family "staying private"

Spectre8 · 08/01/2023 23:25

Hear hear about the press. The way they seek to cause anger and division.. only have to see hownthey behaved during pandemic. Utterly deplorable.

Half of what they report is allegedly, assumptions, unnamed sources and they spin up stuff to make it look credible.

Best thing I ever did was cut back on the news

I’m of the opinion he may have written the book in a darker place and may have been in a position not to be able to withdraw as there is a lot of smoothing over of what has been said.

That isn't true. It's already been revealed that he stopped the book from being published when he returned from the Jubilee in June. The publishers were pulling their hair out. As it happenes he was just waiting for the queen to die. He then attended the funeral and rushed back to the US, wrote an extra chapter detailing what he said in that intimate moment with the dead queen, and sent it to the publisher. So he could have stopped publcation if he'd wanted to.

I really don't think I was watching the same interview as James O'Brien.

I genuinely might start a thread about this, because it’s clear lots of people don’t know how Communications Teams work.

That headline and comment - it most likely came about because the reporter rang their press contact at the Palace and said so what is the King’s position on this? And the press contact would have said back: “we are not making a statement on this. But off the record you can say that Harry can call the King anytime”. End of conversation.

This is absolutely, one hundred percent normal in press teams in organisations all over the country. It is not dishonest or wrong. Harry’s team will have done the same thing themselves countless times. Communication teams’ job is to do exactly this when dealing reactively with enquiries (they also deal with required disclosures and will have a diary of planned proactive statements, but in a big institution like the Palace, and also e.g. a bank/government department/broadcaster dealing with the reactive stuff is a huge part of their job.

A leak is generally when someone goes to the press of their own volition with a story. A disgruntled employee, a lowly- paid junior, someone who enjoys the sense of power it gives them. It could even be someone high up doing it for political reasons. That story you have linked to is unlikely to fall into that category - “Meghan made Kate cry” would. In the latter case it’s been suggested by journalists that it came from the Givenchy assistant, possibly just through unwise gossip, and was verified by Meghan’s PA, who was bullied out.

There are literally only three sentences on that front page and they are all describing what KC is thinking. They even describe him as "loving father". Come on, please use some critical thought and ask what they are hoping the effect on the reader is. Please. For those of us that aren't thick at least.

Why does he need to answer everything? He is allowed not to reveal all.

Because he is then as bad as the people he accuses! Vague accusations with no substance cause harm because everyone is filling in the gaps and thinking the worst. He's accusing his brother of aggression and bullying, giving no context as to why he was angry. The silences - that he likes to go on about so much when it's silence from the RF - are the damaging parts.

Fucking hell, this man and his wife have managed to set race relations back a decade or two with their vague accusations. I'm a brown woman with mixed race children. It's people like my kids and me who suffer when the sort of nonsense is peddled by a senior member of the head of state's family, steering the political and cultural climate down the road of polarisation, suspicion and assumed victimhood and guilt. He's playing his little therapy speak/ critical race theory seminar speak/money making game of bait and switch, and giving no fucks about the knock on effect on anyone else or his country.

Jennybeans401 · 08/01/2023 23:27

@BradfordGirl I think Oprah Winfrey took that as a racist remarks, judging by her reaction. The conversation before that was all about racism, I would infer that this was what Meghan meant too.

MissMarpleRocks · 08/01/2023 23:28

JOB has always been Team H&M. He believes everything they say & never questions it. Just nods alongside.

Me neither, however imo JOB is a completely tool who rarely says anything worthwhile listening to anyway.

BradfordGirl · 08/01/2023 23:29

@Jennybeans401 I think it was a racist remark. But others are entitled to think it was not. Indeed on MN many many people were saying it was not racist.

Sweetpeasaremadeforbees · 08/01/2023 23:29

Is he still unsure what a woman is?

JudgeJ · 08/01/2023 23:29

PerfectYear321 · 08/01/2023 22:01

Exactly. The irony of someone correcing grammar and getting it wrong.

"The relationship between me and William" is correct. William and I would be incorrect.

Grammatically the use of 'me' in this context is correct, it's to do with being the object or subject in the sentence. The disagreement is whether or not it should be WIlliam and me or me and William, that's not a point of grammar, is to do with useage, it's usual to put oneself last but it's not wrong to do it the other way round.

ALeapOfFaith · 08/01/2023 23:30

His reply to the question ‘do you think you’ve ever done anything wrong yourselves?’ was ‘possibly, but I’m still waiting for them to tell me what’

The arrogance and inability to reflect himself on what he might have handled differently is just jaw dropping. I’m shocked anyone would even say this.

Like an abusive man’s response to an upset woman ‘ffs tell me what I’m supposed to have done wrong now’🤦🏻‍♀️

MarshaMelrose · 08/01/2023 23:31

Sweetpeasaremadeforbees · 08/01/2023 22:50

Why did Harry accept an award for standing up to institutional racism in the RF?

I guess an award for standing up for unconscious bias in the RF isn't quite as catchy?

😂😂😂😂😂😂🤣 👍

Pretty much I think. And so so condescending when you don’t agree with him. I just switch him off now whereas I used to enjoy listening to him.

Jennybeans401 · 08/01/2023 23:31

@BradfordGirl yes but m&H were inferring in that interview that someone in the RF was racist. And now they've backtracked and said its not that at all, it's unconscious bias.

People will have different interpretations of what was said but the meaning in that interview was very clear.

Sweetpeasaremadeforbees · 08/01/2023 23:31

Indeed on MN many many people were saying it was not racist.

I don't think many of them were. Most were saying that IF it was true they should name names because it was putting the suspicion on the whole family.

But if it didn't sell, they wouldn't publish it. The public who lap it all up are to blame provided of course we assume the public are intelligent enough to know they are being fed a narrative. Although sadly its pretty obvious from the number of papers sold and the number of threads online devoted to H&M that the public the papers aim at are not intelligent.

Everybody understood that the accusation was one of racism. In fact William was asked the next day if the RF was racist, and it was clear what had prompted the question.

That’s the journalist’s angle though. And the editorial team.

You don’t need me to tell you the tabloids are in a cycle of negging Harry at the moment. They are the ones who decide their angle. Hence the King is positioned as a loving father. At other points in time he might be positioned a “Weak King procrastinated on taking action”. And there is precious little the press office, or anyone, can do to influence them on this.

MissMarpleRocks · 08/01/2023 23:33

I hope the interviewer tomorrow pushes back more but will have to see.

I can smell another interview in the pipeline to discuss what he really meant by his book as clearly the author didn’t understand or some such drivel.

RLScott · 08/01/2023 23:33

So much interesting stuff (albeit very one sided, and we aren’t going to get the other side).

Was kinda weird Harry said he was now safer where he is....the country with the most gun violence in the developed world, where 95% of schools have active shooter drills (I’m not kidding), and the belly of the beast when it comes to racism and racial conflict (his wife, being mixed race, is not a true american, as one of its many race laws was white only citizenship (Naturalization Act 1790), the country was set up (stolen) for whites.

That country is (and will continue) to go through enormous change and turmoil over next few decades with the non white populous becoming the majority by 2040...and once that happens the racist national anthem will go, more statues of jefferson, washington and co. will topple, its racist documents (‘declaration’ with the natives dehumanised as “savages”) will be shredded, and the white backlash will continue (first seen in 1965 when the white only immigration law was lifted, which began the process of changing in demographics from a white dominated country (90% plus) to one that will be majority non white).
