I feel like we're on a drip feed. Clearly we might be told more in book 2.

Dont! 🙈🙉 Not even in jest.

James OB on Twitter has got it right imo.

Wow. He’s completely together, sorted & clear. Articulate, compassionate, empathetic & at peace. It’s incredible to watch. The maddest thing is that the more he’s boiling your piss, the more you’d benefit from the sort of therapy that’s set him so free.

This might be the most compelling & convincing critique of British media ever provided by someone who really knows what it’s like to be in their jaws. Fascinating & tragic that they have all the papers on display in every palace every day. No wonder they’re so obsessed by it.

What a perfect summary

MeinKraft · 08/01/2023 23:15

Isn't it funny how Andrew was never mentioned. His own uncle? Surely he has an opinion on the media coverage of Andrew...surely stories about Harry and Andrew were used and traded. Wonder if there's anything in the book about it. It's been a very significant event to ignore.

You also never hear anything about the other half of his family, the Spencers. Where were they in all of this?

Backstreetsbackalrightdadada · 08/01/2023 23:15

BradfordGirl · 08/01/2023 23:12

@shortandpaleandoldandugly Ironic. People criticising him for revealing too much, and now for not revealing enough.

Personally I want to know who the racist was, who is getting our public money at that!! I really DONT need to know how he “mounted” an older woman behind a pub. It’s callEd priorities, and if he was an ally and had any integrity the book would have been an expose of any racism and certainly an insight into the colonial institution, not how he feels hard done by with smaller bedrooms etc

Harrysfrostbittentodger · 08/01/2023 23:15

I think he thinks what he’s saying is true. But he sound very paranoid and from an objective point of view, he doesn’t know the difference between his truth, their truth and THE truth.

JudgeJ · 08/01/2023 23:16

MoirasSaggyBundles · 08/01/2023 21:52

But that's still looking at second hand semi gossip. I want Harry to spit it out himself and say, definitively, what the bloody problem was/is and what stories about him and MM were leaked by Camilla.

On the other hand if they are old friends of Camilla doesn't it make sense that they would be supporting her, it doesn't necessarily mean that she had a personal input.

ReleaseTheDucksOfWar · 08/01/2023 23:17

LizzieSiddal · 08/01/2023 23:10

@ReleaseTheDucksOfWar If nothing else she should have told him to NOT DO THIS BOOK. Or interview.

But why shouldn’t he? I agree that some of the things we’ve been told are in the book, (not one member of the public have read it yet!) shouldn’t have been there, but he is entitled to write about things that have happened to him.

In the end this book has the flavour of a ghost writer who made him, a troubled man, feel understood and accepted. It's fine in therapy, but really once you spill absolutely everything all over the world, which is what his media contact does, it screws up any reconcilement for him.

It messes up his family-of-origin situation, it has zero dignity, it can only lead to hurt for him and hurt for William.

The military kill-count is deeply tasteless.

I think he's a victim of the media but also he's playing it, and he has been lost ever since his mother died. He's not a happy man and I don't think he will be until he reaches some sort of peace with himself and the situation with her death, his family of origin and his chosen family. This circus is delaying that, not helping.

LizzieSiddal · 08/01/2023 23:18

Excellent summary from James OBrian.

LivelyBlake · 08/01/2023 23:18

The Guardian is right in that he comes across as sad, very sad.

Articulate? Well, had can whine all right.

Are you for real?

Every story you read about the royal family is a leak, brief or plant. Open your eyes

This for example:
twitter.com/_PeterHunt/status/1611512142733402113?t=DD4nLg5D95HuI0YPo-ZHLw&s=19

RF have 'declined to comment' yet are quoted on the front page of a bloody tabloid ffs

your example is not negative tho is it? I would genuinely like to know specifically when they created a negative story about meghan. Because the Wimbledon story is about meghan creating her own negative headline.

@4thtimeunlucky

Agree about Tom B's complexion. Heavy make up, looks partial to some tweakments too!

PerfectYear321 · 08/01/2023 22:59

How has he backtracked?

It was a concerning comment and still is.

As a white person he said he doesn't know if it's racist or not: maybe it's unconscious bias

As a black person I think it's racist

And the fact all these white people are jumping on this as 'phew he's backracked' is just not surprising to me 🙄🤔

So when my black SiL was worried that her DC would have ginger hair (as my bro is very pale with ginger hair - dont ask me why she was worried, she just was) and both sides of the family were wondering how dark/pale the child would be you are saying that is racist? No one is allowed to wonder?

Why?

I genuinely might start a thread about this, because it’s clear lots of people don’t know how Communications Teams work.

That headline and comment - it most likely came about because the reporter rang their press contact at the Palace and said so what is the King’s position on this? And the press contact would have said back: “we are not making a statement on this. But off the record you can say that Harry can call the King anytime”. End of conversation.

This is absolutely, one hundred percent normal in press teams in organisations all over the country. It is not dishonest or wrong. Harry’s team will have done the same thing themselves countless times. Communication teams’ job is to do exactly this when dealing reactively with enquiries (they also deal with required disclosures and will have a diary of planned proactive statements, but in a big institution like the Palace, and also e.g. a bank/government department/broadcaster dealing with the reactive stuff is a huge part of their job.

A leak is generally when someone goes to the press of their own volition with a story. A disgruntled employee, a lowly- paid junior, someone who enjoys the sense of power it gives them. It could even be someone high up doing it for political reasons. That story you have linked to is unlikely to fall into that category - “Meghan made Kate cry” would. In the latter case it’s been suggested by journalists that it came from the Givenchy assistant, possibly just through unwise gossip, and was verified by Meghan’s PA, who was bullied out.

fatsocatso · 08/01/2023 23:05

Not the headline I would have run with, I agree. But I would say that his tone and body language at times indicated a huge amount of unresolved anger. There were times when he was clearly very unhappy with the line of questioning.

Surely a headline should report facts, not inference and opinion from 'body language'

I think they’ll be a lot of red faces in the Palace and in Tabloid offices. They have been complicit in leaking stories and the Tabloids do twist stories. They will hate the fact Harry is talking about this.

I’d like to know about the legal actions he has in place. I expect the press are very keen to suppress all talk of them.

^^ Totally agree with this!

I reckon Camilla has over-played her hand

Jennybeans401 · 08/01/2023 23:22

I find him tedious. I think he's pushing Meghan's agenda about Kate and the bridesmaid dresses. So petty. Then his own agenda about the press.

I'm still none the wiser now, it's he said she said stuff. They've completely backtracked on the racism stuff from the Oprah interview. It's like we are being gaslight.

Will people excuse their racist remarks in the future by calling it unconscious bias?

Sweetpeasaremadeforbees · 08/01/2023 23:22

not the same Harry that used to laugh and joke with William and Kate

well apparently on some of those occasions he was a bit happy (although he didn't seem completely convinced about that) and other times it was uncomfortable. I think he's deliberately rewriting history to completely trash his family.

BradfordGirl · 08/01/2023 23:23

Harry has still to learn what anyone does who has a toxic family. Stop trying to reconcile. When your family is toxic you either have to say everything is fine and accept all their bad treatment, or you have to leave.

Quirkyme · 08/01/2023 23:23

@Backstreetsbackalrightdadada

I agree. That's why I said earlier it is insulting that he won an award for "fighting institutional racism", it is laughable.
There are people who have done that who have rightfully won awards, and should be getting awards for their work, not this man - he dgaf.

I don't take to him, never have tbh.

the job of the headline is to draw you in to read the story

Its like watching Diana playing the press for fools, it's exactly what he's doing!

Yes, that apple hasn't fallen far from the tree! Knowing how his mother's obsession with the press finished up I find it amazing that he is wanting to use the press in exactly the same way. Whatever the rights and wrongs of the Panorama performance she had an agenda and she wanted her version of the 'truth' to be the one accepted.
