In the Telegraph today got to be worth a thread of its own. She is of course right !

OP posts:

Well she's right. The vitriol is ridiculous. None of us know Megan, all we know about her is what the media have decided they want us to know. Even Harry's book so far has been filtered through the media so thousands of people who won't bother to read it, will think they know all about it - because of what the sun and the daily mail told them it said. Complete lack of critical thinking combined with blind devotion to the monarchy. I'm not a fan of harry and meghan but what they've been subjected to for trying to talk about their own experience has been ridiculous.

This!

Time to coin the phrase Meghan Derangement Syndrome, MDS. 650 comments under the Telegraph article now - most having a pop at MN for its supposed feminist , left leaning Islington chatterati ways and of course La Markle. This one made me laugh..

Overwhelmingly full of smug middle class lefties. The sort that are unaffected by unfettered immigration as they can still afford mortgages because they earn £100K a year and won't need social housing , their wages won't kept down by imported labour , think Brexit was a disaster because their little treasures can't now go on the Erasmus scheme and they can't stay in their holiday homes for more than a few months at a time , net zero us great because they'll still be able to afford the heating bills , they would like the NHS to work properly but can always afford to go private if needs be and their children don't have to go to a sink school where English is a second language for most pupils because they live in a decent catchment because they can afford the extra £1 million it cost to get a house there and if that doesn't work out well little Ludo and Boudicca can always go to a private school .

Haha

Meghan is a terrible person. Weird that Justine doesn't seem a fan of free speech.

And you know this for a FACT do you?! What fact is that please?

Bakeacaketoday73 · 08/01/2023 11:55

BethDuttonsTwin · 08/01/2023 11:46

Brutally accurate summary and no doubt you’ll be lambasted for it, but I agree.

I'm probably due a name change 😂.

Lets be honest of there was betting of the state of play in 10 years time, Harry and Meghan odds on divorced and Harry back in UK.

Puzzledandpissedoff · 08/01/2023 11:58

Wise words as ever, bakalava

FWIW there's nothing wrong in a business owner prioritising the bottom line, as long as people recognise it for what it is. There's no obligation either to like your "suppliers", though an ability to hide outright distaste often helps

Above all, it often confuses me when posters refer to the content on MN, apparently without realising they're the content - a point worth remembering since nothing online is truly private and can often be sold

Ineedtosleep79 · 08/01/2023 11:59

@Bakeacaketoday73

Justine comment is about vitriol and deranged comments about M&H - I assume you disagree with her yet this is your contribution. If you or anyone else are in a relationship good or bad do you think people are betting on whether divorce is likely in the next 10 years. Why name change, keep it, you are not the first or the last.

Really this thread is not about Meghan. It’s not. Really. It’s about the person who is making a lot of money out of what we spew out on a daily basis and her rather snobbish attitude to us.

Perhaps princess Justine should have kept her mouth shut like Prince Harry and kept her private views private.

After all, we are the reason she is where she is today.

It’s not a good look Justine.

😂😂😂😭😂😂

Morestrangethings · 08/01/2023 12:11

GrannyWeatherwaxsHatpin · 08/01/2023 11:46

Oh give over, it’s a standard phrase. Or would you like to provide us with a list of words we are permitted to use and have been confirmed, by committee review, not to offend anyone?

It’s actually not a standard phrase. It came into more common usage only a few years ago - used incorrectly on social media. The poster I responded to criticised Meghan for incorrect usage of words. Word salad used as the poster did, is incorrect.

“Or would you like to provide us with a list of words we are permitted to use and have been confirmed, by committee review, not to offend anyone?”

Yes, take it to extremes…. it’s a common way of putting someone down on mn.

creamcoffee · 08/01/2023 12:14

vote with your feet, if you feel affronted, there are other forums

Maximinimalist · 08/01/2023 12:14

She is right and it makes me very angry that these people set the tone abroad for who we are. Outside of the UK we are seen as deranged bigots. I never in my life thought we would be portrayed on the world stage as ignorant, uneducated people. I thought that title belonged to people living in the deep, Deep South of America.

creamcoffee · 08/01/2023 12:14

Well, yes. I have been to weddings where people were commenting on the likelihood of the marriage lasting. People do.

I was (joking) about a name change due to the response by the previous poster "Brutally accurate summary and no doubt you’ll be lambasted for it, but I agree" by @BethDuttonsTwin

Harry seems to have proved he managed to be a right bellend (a frostbitten one) without any help whatsoever from Meghan for years before he ever met her.

purpledalmation · 08/01/2023 12:21

I don't think people blame Meghan alone, but we are allowed to dislike the hypocrisy displayed by her and by Harry.

We are also allowed to dislike the hatred, lies and vitriol spilling out from the pair of them while the RF say nothing. The couple know they can shoot fish in a barrel indefinitely making $$$$$ in the process.
We are allowed to see the intrinsic unfairness in this

PreparationPreparationPrep · 08/01/2023 12:31

Well, yes. I have been to weddings where people were commenting on the likelihood of the marriage lasting. People do.

Yes but you said betting - people bet on whether someone else's will last - especially as it is alluding that they hope it won't last - which I find odd as none of us know what is round the corner in our own.

Mezmer · 08/01/2023 12:34

Ah. Aren’t the peasants behaving as they should?

perhaps it needs the enlightened elite to go in and educate them in the ways of the progressives.

not that too much of that doesn’t go on already on MN.

bakalava · 08/01/2023 12:36

I attended a distant family wedding where the bride was visibly pregnant in white but denying it (a no-no in our culture).
They were marrying in the UK at short notice even though they both lived in the US, their US family never knew and their UK family barely knew them.
People were openly talking about their divorce in front of them. It was awkward.
They had a baby four months later (full term but they insisted was a premmie) and divorced not long after.

shockthemonkey · 08/01/2023 12:40

I was careful to keep “word salad” in quotes because I am aware of its questionable usage outside of the field of psychiatry. I used it tongue in cheek, but clear about what I meant. It does after all signify “an unintelligible mixture of random words” … the term word salad by the way is also used in linguistics. I am interested in linguistics and notably pragmatics, one of its branches.

I’m truly sorry if I offended anyone!

Final thought, when a term is used in a new way by a sufficient number of people you get semantic shift - happens in many languages, not just English. I think this may be happening with “word salad”.

I think we are the only country that gives more of a shit as to how we are seen ‘from abroad’ than within our own borders.

I’m pretty sure it’s the likes of you constantly banging on about how horrible Britain is that the rest of the world believes it.
