In the Telegraph today got to be worth a thread of its own. She is of course right !

All very lovely but it doesn’t answer my question - what do you think the RF should do about him?

Maintain their policy of responding, and stick to the line that he is a beloved member of the family

Remember we have only Harry's word for the existence or extent of any leaks - he's not the most reliable source himself.

Coxspurplepippin · 09/01/2023 13:23

There are obviously many threads/posts criticising Harry and Meghan. There are many threads/posts criticising the royal family as a whole and individual members thereof. There are posters who have literally thousands of posts supporting Harry and Meghan and criticising the RF so it works both ways.

Most of the criticism of Harry and Meghan is as a direct result of things they've actually said themselves, in their interviews/documentaries.

Harry appears to take every tiny infraction as a perceived slight, and hangs on to it for ever. He's talking about tiny instances concerning loaning lipgloss etc - he's bringing this up after, what, 5 years. He's looking for things to be offended by.

He says he's happy, but nothing we've seen in the last 24 hours suggests that, no matter what James O'Brien and his ilk say. He looked stressed and angry in his Tom Bradby interview.

He knows the tabloids lie, it is perfectly possible the RF haven't been briefing against him at all, but the tabloids have been making stuff up, as they always do.

His stories are inconsistent - accusing a member of his family of being rascist and now trying to back pedal isn't a great look.

He's said his father has apologised to him, his brother has told him he loves him, but it's not enough. It'll never be enough.

I'm trying to think of individuals who have ever trashed their nearest and dearest with the complete abandon that Harry and Meghan (particularly Harry at this stage) have managed, over such a period of time and I can't think of one precedent. Harry's actions, if he ever has a second of self reflection and realisation, will come to haunt him.

ArcaneWireless · 09/01/2023 13:30

Indeed @Parts

But in the interest of fairness we had better throw shade at the other supermarkets.

Because even if there are many threads about Tesco banishing cornflour someone has to do a tit for tat nonsense thread to show their Tesco allegiance.

Literally the self-awareness of a newt.

<I’m not deranged I’m just obsessed.>

Oops posted too soon

Charles admitted adultery to the whole world. Diana did the same. He spent loads of time in boarding school and he was out on parade at his mothers funeral.
If you write an autobiography then you have to put the good in with bad. I've read a couple of them Anne yes they do talk about their families.

This. Harry's autobiography is soooo tame compared to some of the others out there...

BradfordGirl · 09/01/2023 14:38

@Coxspurplepippin Even King Charles has complained about his neglectful parenting.

Coxspurplepippin · 09/01/2023 15:26

Sure, but not over months, numerous interviews, documentaries, books, leaks through pet journalists, with no evidence of the snowball coming to a halt any time soon. It's unprecedented.

Harry has confirmed his father has apologised for his shortcomings. I think Harry wants him to flail himself until his skin falls off (and that won't be enough).

StarbucksSmarterSister · 09/01/2023 22:05

I think if the internet had been around in 1880 Lindy Chamberlain would have received this much vitriol at least in Australia, and probably UK and possibly USA.

OMG yes. It was bad enough as it was. That poor woman.

I totally agree. Posters would have been diagnosing her with all sorts of mental illnesses, calling her a narc, and saying how they just know she is guilty because ...insert some trivial reason.

Bollox, the media were going for MM 4 + years ago, long before interviews or books.

Its been well catalogued with comparisons between Kate (positive) Merkle (negative) first ones were in 2018.

But yes Justine is correct, the hatred for MM on here is pathetic.

The criticism on here, not in the media. I don't look at tabloids, but Harry and Meghan have just kept spaffing away with the exaggeration, the half truths, the searching for slights in any words, looks, hanging on to grudges over petty stuff for years.

His father has apologised to him, his brother has told him he loves him and wants him to be happy. Nothing will ever be enough for Harry and ultimately the only person who will really suffer for it is him.

vera99 · 10/01/2023 01:17

Bring on the Republic a curse on all their (very big) houses...it's pathetic to see a developed civilised country like ours descend into the trivial madness of crowds when all around us the country is going to the dogs.

“This is what you get when you found a political system on the family values of Henry VIII. At a point in the not-too-remote future, the stout heart of Queen Elizabeth II will cease to beat. At that precise moment, her firstborn son will become head of state, head of the armed forces, and head of the Church of England. In strict constitutional terms, this ought not to matter much. The English monarchy, as has been said, reigns but does not rule. From the aesthetic point of view it will matter a bit, because the prospect of a morose bat-eared and chinless man, prematurely aged, and with the most abysmal taste in royal consorts, is a distinctly lowering one.”

Both William and Charles may need to follow up their words by actions.

MinutesAreOldFashioned · 10/01/2023 10:13

What kind of actions specifically?

Blossomtoes · 10/01/2023 11:18

Lampzade · 10/01/2023 10:04

What do you suggest they do?

ladygindiva · 10/01/2023 12:21

I agree with Justine

Morestrangethings · 10/01/2023 12:40

I think some mumsnetters read Justine’s ‘deranged’ comment and thought, ‘Deranged? I’ll give you deranged.’

TiarasAndTeddies · 10/01/2023 12:43

Good to know the site owner thinks the posters on her site are deranged 😂

Bugeyedowl · 10/01/2023 12:54

Well, she is right. Mners are deranged, the level of hate H&M get, especially M, is ridiculous and sadly telling. They haven't actually done anything wrong except stick up for themselves against a rancid institution.

Why hasn't Andrew ever received the same level of hatred?

Serenster · 10/01/2023 12:58

They haven't actually done anything wrong except stick up for themselves against a rancid institution.

Interesting take given they’ve just told the world that that the hugely damaging and defamatory accusation that the royal family is racist, which they blatantly inferred was the case in the Oprah interview, with examples and everything, was not the case at all! And they haven’t felt the need to correct the world’s perception in the intervening two years, and even picked up an award for their comments in the process…

It is implied not inferred..

What they said on the OW interview is that there were questions about the colour of the baby.

Asked about it again, H said he felt it was indicative of “unconscious bias”.

No more no less was said than that.

Everything else is hysteria.

Yes, you’re right about I imply/you infer, but everything else in your post is gaslighting.

We all know the clear inference of that they were saying, and how they said it. This meets the legal test for defamation (the ordinary and reasonable person can read between the lines or infer the meaning) quite easily. The immense international reaction to their comments made it quite clear how it was taken not just by the media but by the millions of people watching it.

(Meghan also did not say “questions” about the baby, she said “concerns and conversations about how dark his skin might be when he’s born” and that to reveal who said this would would be “damaging” to them.

Then when Oprah asked if the conversations were “because they were concerned that if he were too brown, that that would be a problem? Are you saying that?” to which Meghan replied “if that’s the assumption you’re making, I think that feels like a pretty safe one”.)

They said that 'someone' made comments about the child's skin colour. So it seems that all they did was say an incident occurred - the media made more of it.

Anyway, even if it is 'damaging and defamatory', why can't they say it if it's true? Why should they keep silent about something like that? So what if it's damaging to the RF's reputation, really I'd prefer to know.

All M&H have done is remove themselves from a toxic environment and speak up about it. As they should. Funny how you don't reply about Andrew?

HaroldsCougar · 10/01/2023 13:55

What if the comment was

"At least the baby will have the chance of being tall, dark and handsome, not ginger like you"

OK - I've invented it - but everyone seems to have assumed that the comment was horrible. Whereas there is still scope for teasing comments that were negative about him not her. But would of course still be comments on the baby's possible skin/hair colour

He needs to say something nearer to verbatim - especially as they felt able to accept an award for challenging racism because of what was said. And perhaps then we might also understand better what he means by unconscious bias in this case

Mirabai · 10/01/2023 14:22

Again, implication and not inference.

Is this the royal we? Do you know what gaslighting actually means?

What I inferred from the OW interview that there were questions about the colour of the baby. Specifically concern expressed about its potential colour, with the implication that being too dark a colour - “too brown” - could be a problem.

H defines it unconscious bias. As in not intentional, upfront, conscious bias.

That is what was said.
