Two brothers have fallen out, with one leaving the family business to go and live with his wife in her country.

That's it.

The only reason the spin off stuff (books, TV, interviews) happens is because all of you provide an audience for it.

Switch off and it will end, keep on engaging and YOU keep it going.

Unless of course you all actually enjoy the faux outrage Wink

I’ve not gone to the virginity thread yet & not sure I want to.

You must not miss this. It’s hilarious.

I feel a bit sorry for all the posters who have put in months of defending H&M, claiming that everyone who criticised them was racist/a peasant who enjoyed forelock tugging/whatever, and - to give them the benefit of the doubt and take their professed views at face value - probably thought/hoped that The Book would rock the Establishment and appal the populace.

And we have Harold the stallion, the frost bitten penis, the dog bowl etc. There's been some sterling work on the 'it's never acceptable to use violence/it's domestic abuse' angle, but as H's account is so unrealistically one-sided I don't think it's going to get much traction (unlike W on H's necklace 😁)

You couldn't make it up...

It's actually ridiculous. Harry has released a book. Currently not even in English, but in Spanish (so bear in mind different translations can lead to different interpretations depending on culture and the imperfect nature of language.) Books aren't meant to be sectioned off into 20 different articles - they're meant to be read as a whole so that context and tone are retained.

I'm sure Harry knew to a certain extent that his book would be treated this way, but I did expect some intelligence from a forum that prides itself on common sense. The endless threads on this, reacting with a vulture-like glee to each new 'revelation' as though Harry is standing naked in front of Buckingham Palace firing off a new scandalous anecdote every hour instead of, y'know, an autobiography of his life which is meant to be read fully before judgement can be passed, really show people up for the gossip-hungry ghouls they actually are.

People love gossip and speculation.
Don't tell me that if a bloke from round your way did the stuff that Harold claims, that you wouldn't be gossiping down your local with the rest of them.
Of course you would.
Particularly if it was two brothers, one of whom had a penchant for a derrière in a dog bowl.

I just could not care less. I have zero interest in the royals. I've never watched a royal wedding or funeral, and just want to curl up and die of shame every time I see them on TV.

It baffles me that people think we need them. This island produced Shakespeare, Dickens, Tolkien, Isaac Newton, Charles Darwin, Stephen Hawking, David Bowie, the Beatles, Virginia Woolf, Wordsworth, Blake, Byron, Milton, Turner, Jane Austen, the Brontes. We have two of the oldest and most famous universities in the world. It's the island in which the cell and the atom were first understood. It's the birthplace of modern democracy. It's the place in which DNA was discovered, where Harry Potter was written. We should be proud of our amazing cultural history, not this bunch of ugly gargoyles.

bakalava · 06/01/2023 17:15

It comes round once every decade.

Besides they have been saying "look at me!look at me!" for quite some time. I mean, Harry is so desperate for international attention that he has deliberately picked a fight with the Taliban because he knows they will communicate back.

Loveinacandle · 06/01/2023 17:20

This whole thing has proved that there are a lot of very dumb people in this country, it’s actually quite embarrassing tbh. A guy from a very dysfunctional family has written a book about it. Is it so impossible to believe that Harry told his Dad not to marry Camilla? Or that he and Willian got into a scuffle and none of them really liked Meghan. She comes across a bit annoying to be fair but the whole RF is built on being bloody weirdos. Imagine bowing to your grandmother when you go to her for dinner, why are we trying to act like this is all normal. There seems to be a very vocal section of England that think H&M tell all these lies and are the devil incarnate when the rest of us are looking on thinking, what a bunch of freaks. Imagine having so much hate for H&M and the uncle is a Peadophile ffs!

The full truth is probably in the middle but I don’t think it’s a massive stretch to say that the family are weird and probably some messed up stuff happens behind closed doors. Just like every other family! If nothing else, I hope this brings and end to this stupid monarchy and we can all get on with our lives.

Spectre8 · 06/01/2023 17:28

Of anything the media judt play right into their main issue with the media.

First with the Clarkson comment and now this... article after article of clickbait material solely to generate money and using snippets of text here and there. The guy in their netflix series (don't remeber his name) spoke about this and I agreed with him. Tabloids just report now to generate anger and division no matter what the topic or person.

ReneBumsWombats · 06/01/2023 17:30

You don't have to wait for the fall of the monarchy.

They're on a few threads. I see we're getting a few 'you're all paid palace pr!' ones, as well, because obviously being paid by the royals is the only reason anyone would be critical of The Book.

No - being paid PR is not the only reason people would not like the book.

It is tone of the knitters watching the executions that creates a certain patina.

I hate the derision of both brothers physcial selves, the gleeful predictions of doom on both houses, the sexisim, the classisim.

But there are things to be discussed if we believe in an hereditary system. They SHOULD be better citzens than us - what is the point otherwise?

Thechoccieorange · 06/01/2023 17:44

Between the royal rift and Greta taking down Andrew Tate, I don't think I've ever spent so much time giggling on the Internet!

I'm not knitting while I read this stuff. It's too distracting. I might drop a stitch.

Mezmer · 06/01/2023 18:25

My question to many if you is why you deny the great British public of the entertainment?

why?

why are you so hateful of ordinary people who work hard sitting down of an evening and watching the feud play out?

if you don’t care then fuck off.

why is your ‘outrage’ over the public’s interest in Harry and Meghan any different to the public’s ‘outrage’ over Harry and Meghan?

it’s not.

you vent your spleen over there and we’ll be over here, ok?

I read Tale Of Two Cities a few months ago and the atmosphere among the knitters in that is very different I feel.

Is it hard going?

It’s not difficult but it’s horrible.
The revolutionaries are thoroughly nasty and vicious and it’s painful to watch the doomed aristocrats moving inexorably to their fate.
Having a bit of a laugh about Prince Harry over sharing is not really much like the malevolence of Mme Defarge.

An awful lot of us can manage to enjoy both.
