It's been such a fascinating, twisting tale.
RF supporters were outraged that he'd write a book and wondered what there was left to say.
HAM supporters defended his right to publish the book and the RF would just have to suck it up.
Then the Queen died and rumours were he was trying to edit bits out of the book. The reports came saying he couldn't.
Traitor, shouted the royalists
Let him be, replied the HAMmers. He can write what he likes.
Then tensions rise as the publishing date nears. Royalists grumpy. HAMmers gleeful.
Next controlled release of an English excerpt through the Guardian. William beat his brother up.
It's the end of the monarchy, shouted the HAMmers. He can't be king.
Royalists made fun of the broken necklace, the dog bowl and explained the fight as, it's brothers innit. But still, it looked like a rough ride for the RF.
Then out of the blue, Spain does something extraordinary. They start selling Spanish copies. They're snapped up and translated in the most clunky, and funny, way. Story after story follows. Some so bizarre that HAMmers declare it must be a clever hoax book. How inspired and gifted is Harry.
MSM outlets say the RF is in real trouble with serious questions to answer. And yet, and yet, on SM a little sniggering is heard. Jokes start being made on US TV. And then on daytime TV, they're openly laughing at him and his stories of having his bottom spanked and his frozen todger.
And then, HAMmers, who weeks before were saying, let him write what he wants, are saying, stop talking about the book, he's ill. I wonder if the book had been well-received and the same stories were included, whether we'd still be thinking he was ill.
Of course, it could all change again. The English version might come out and be so movingly written, that he becomes a hero. Certainly I thought he came across quite well on the two pages I read about Afghanistan - even if he does discuss his target numbers. But will that overturn the images and opinions that people already now have embedded in their head?
The story's not over yet.
