Two brothers have fallen out, with one leaving the family business to go and live with his wife in her country.

That's it.

The only reason the spin off stuff (books, TV, interviews) happens is because all of you provide an audience for it.

Switch off and it will end, keep on engaging and YOU keep it going.

Unless of course you all actually enjoy the faux outrage Wink

I did expect some intelligence from a forum that prides itself on common sense.

Well then, who's the fool?

Mic drop.

benisright · 06/01/2023 14:43

Well it's pure escapism isn't it? Instead of a drama series it's a book! It will die down soon like any other form of entertainment. Sad though that it involves real people who have to live with the consequences.

ReneBumsWombats · 06/01/2023 14:48

as though Harry is standing naked in front of Buckingham Palace firing off a new scandalous anecdote every hour

Well we know why he won't do that. Frostbite.

I think what I love most about all these sanctimonious, faux intellectual protest posts, on this thread and others, is how they think they're casting their pearls among us swine and we're just too thick and prurient to reach their enlightened heights.

We know exactly what we're looking at. And it's fucking glorious.

Georgeskitchen · 06/01/2023 14:53

Falalalalalalaetc · 06/01/2023 14:34

Well you might have been right up to the point that Harry pissed off the Taliban. He's now created a foreign relations incident and created a security risk for the UK public / royal family.

So it's not just about the drama of one family any more.

I never thought I'd ever agree with anything the Taliban would ever say, but I do agree that describing Afghan lives as 'chess pieces' is profoundly offensive and to do that in a book which is solely about gaining money for himself and whinging about how hard done by his over privileged life is makes it worse.

Who would think calling the Taliban chess pieces is offensive, apart from The Taliban? We're not talking about the normal everyday Afghan people here don't you know?
Have the Taliban actually made a complaint.?

It's all very 'wake up sheeple!' isn't it? THEY can see through the whole charade (which it goes without saying they find utterly distasteful) but they'll sully themselves if it helps to drag the masses even a teeny tiny bit up to their level.

BadShepherd · 06/01/2023 14:55

“We know exactly what we're looking at. And it's fucking glorious.”

this! In spades! It’s not often someone offers themselves up on a bejewelled platter for utter ridicule.

who ever envisaged H as being the one to bringing divided factions of the country back together!?

Quite a lot of people, actually, including serving and ex-military personnel. Enemies or not, these were human beings. And yes, the Taliban have been pretty vocal about it via the press. What do you think they were going to do, phone BP's HR department?

And I'm sitting here contemplating that a member of the RF has enlisted my sympathy for the Taliban....

Ex member don't forget . he left to go and live a nice quiet life with his missus 😂

His dictionary must have a different definition of 'quiet' from everyone else's.

Perhaps we could flood the board tonight with alternative interesting and witty posts? Pretty please

It's actually ridiculous. Harry has released a book. Currently not even in English, but in Spanish (so bear in mind different translations can lead to different interpretations depending on culture and the imperfect nature of language.) Books aren't meant to be sectioned off into 20 different articles - they're meant to be read as a whole so that context and tone are retained.

I'm sure Harry knew to a certain extent that his book would be treated this way, but I did expect some intelligence from a forum that prides itself on common sense. The endless threads on this, reacting with a vulture-like glee to each new 'revelation' as though Harry is standing naked in front of Buckingham Palace firing off a new scandalous anecdote every hour instead of, y'know, an autobiography of his life which is meant to be read fully before judgement can be passed, really show people up for the gossip-hungry ghouls they actually are.

I believe that most of thoses posters are paid palace pr people.

Otherwise it makes no sense - Mumsnet has zero tolerence for abuse or violence yet there is this wall of unanimous nastiness.

Makes me think I must say.

ImAvingOops · 06/01/2023 15:20

The thing is that H & M keep banging on about it. Escape is impossible!

And it's a distraction from the really worrying stuff going on right now. Although I'm not as entertained as I was by Vardy versus Rooney. While I think H has some legitimate complaints, it's all a bit whiny!

MrsDanversGlidesAgain · 06/01/2023 15:24

Course we are, love. Scores and scores of us, all mobilised lickety split to flood the boards. There couldn't possibly be any other explanation, could there?

Makes me think I must say

Congratulations. A first for you, is it?

BadShepherd · 06/01/2023 15:29

Oooh if we’re employed by the palace I’m gonna call shotgun on the Kensington “hovel” (I’ll bring my own ektorp).

PAFMO · 06/01/2023 15:29

It's fun really. WhackALoon.
The 3 or 4 seriously, obsessively, evidently quite ill posters on this board sometimes venture out into the wilds of broader Mumsnet, so having seen their insanity and obsession playing out over here is helpful so you can just give them a swerve knowing that, tbh, they need help.

Seriously?

Really and truly?

You agree with the same Taliban who hang people in public squares?

Who stone people, mainly women, to death.

Who promote child marriage?

Who have banned women and girls from school?

Who rape and pillage at will?

I am pretty sure you do not agree with them.

This type of online discourse is exactly what parents really worry about. We reap what we sow and all that.

Exactly, people do know how the Taliban are treating all the women in Afghanistan yeh?

Oh don’t be daft.

Harry isn’t Churchill, the book was written to be a mass market bestseller. I am pretty sure that reading the entire book isn’t going to make an iota of different to any opinion of his story. The bits in between are going to be more of the same, just a bit less juicy.

He wrote this to make money and create a wave of publicity. He filled it with a fair few scandalous anecdotes to that end.

Would the people who are interested in his story turn from being gossip hungry ghouls into a respectable readership if they waited till next week? And if so, why?
