Really?
Another statement probably way off the truth.

H is reported as saying they were amazed when they visited W&C in Kensington Palace and saw the art work, the furniture etc etc.

Whereas HE had to kit out Notts Cott with Ikea stuff that M bought using her CC. (Harrods is just down the road as is John Lewis .)

Has he forgotten the £millions of tax payers' money that was used to tart up Nott Cott?

And that he's now had to pay back as they buggered off the US soon afterwards?

Yet another warped statement, oozing with unfounded jealousy.

I thought that MegsyBaby was proud to be a self made wealth woman who didn't need the tax payer charity and married for love? Also all the hippie, barefoot, ripped jeans simple living life style the both made a point to display on netflix...goes perfectly with Ikea furniture IMO.

BernadetteRostankowskiWolowitz · 06/01/2023 09:16

I always thought that when books were published stating others said and did stuff, that the publishers had to obtain permission/legal sign off from those mentioned in it before the book could be published?

So who furnished it after K&W left & when Harry used it himself?

I can’t believe there wasn’t a spare sofa or two in BP, KP or one of the other palaces .

FedUpWithEverything123 · 06/01/2023 09:17

I honestly thought your title was a joke OP! OMG it's actually something Harry has said / complained about?! Holy frackkk this guy is out of control

LadyKenya · 06/01/2023 09:05

Is there a reason that I should have to pay to do so? The nation pays enough already for all of this.

The art is often loaned to other exhibitions, often free.

if the Royals didn’t live in KP, or, as I’m sure you would like, we’re abolished, do you think you’d get to see it free then?

garlicandsapphires · 06/01/2023 09:19

Doesn’t Harry have a reputation for being tight-fisted?

It’s all just so very sad. I hate to say but, I too, wonder whether Meghan has an agenda because whilst it seems to be coming from him, is it really? How much influence has she had? If she divorced him could she claim this proves him to be an unfit father?

This part is really worrying. Meghan has all elements to get a successful divorce plus full custody in ‘Spare’. In her husband’s own words.

AgathaX · 06/01/2023 09:23

Trying to imagine H&M trying to assemble IKEA flat pack furniture… - love this!

Agreed.

Even if we abolished the Monarchy today, Te upkeep of The Royal Collection would still be paid for out of our taxes as is the case in France where The Palace of Versailles comes under the umbrella of the Ministry for Culture.

I mention Versailles in particular as it is often quoted on here as a reason for not needing a Monarchy to attract tourists etc.

Admittedly, they don't get full funding, and do now rely on charitable donations but the Goernment still pay the Lion's share.

ChicCroissant · 06/01/2023 09:24

Did Meghan not see the photos of the Obamas visiting William and Kate in their KP apartment, when George was on the rocking horse that the Obamas sent as a gift? That showed the artwork in the apartment a bit. Seems a bit of a jump to go from Ikea furniture over here to the Monteshitshow Mansion in the USA, how did they think they were going to fund that going forward?

Meghan hasn't come off well in the bits of the book that have come out so far - WTF was Harry thinking. And as for the death count thing - words fail me. Truly their own worst enemies.

rumship · 06/01/2023 09:24

Oh this would be Arry and Megsy with their green credentials again. 😂

The ‘Similar Threads’ suggestions are brilliant.

Now that’s comedy gold!

@ADifferentKindofChristmas bloody hell they must be furious. His actions are completely bonkers.

why s Oprah not doing an interview with him in the states?

It would probably go against the terms of his contract with Netflix/the book publishers

Who knows? The point I am making, which I stand by is the fact that the OP suggested that the art belongs to the nation, who in turn have to pay to be able to access it. I questioned why that was.

catskittens · 06/01/2023 09:27

of course MM has a hand in this,he is so dumb and a puppet to her but she is dumb if she thinks we dont know that

he will live to regret all this and tbh i hope he is left out in the cold

crabbyapples · 06/01/2023 09:28

Wow. Harry doesn't have any mates (since he's alientated them all), just fake friends who won't tell him how woefully privileged and out of touch he looks just because he had to buy some furniture for his completely free palace cottage gift.

Also:

Harry wrote that he felt like he was “the shadow, the support, the Plan B” and “brought into the world in case something happened to Willy.”

“I was summoned to provide backup, distraction, diversion and, if necessary, a spare part. Kidney, perhaps. Blood transfusion. Speck of bone marrow,” he wrote.

What a plonker.

Aspiringmatriarch · 06/01/2023 09:28

I love an IKEA haul. I hope he shares more details, what did they buy? And did they get meatballs?

I agree it's a bit odd to put it on her credit card but maybe he didn't have easy access to his money? OTOH Ikea prices surely weren't out of reach. The royals do seem to combine extravagance with stinginess in an odd way, I can imagine Meghan not knowing what to think really. And the place was probably pretty sparse while he had it as a bachelor pad, he doesn't seem like he'd be too worried about that beyond the purely functional. I don't blame her for wanting to freshen things up.

Anyway I don't think this is a particularly egregious anecdote.

TheClogLady · 06/01/2023 09:30

I don’t doubt that Charles’ lifestyle is lavish compared to us unwashed masses, but he definitely has that specific streak of frugality that is often present in the truly aristocratic classes.

eg: like Anne he has been wearing the same clothes for decades:

www.dailymail.co.uk/femail/article-9618545/As-pictured-repaired-jacket-Prince-Charles-big-fan-recycled-outfits.html

I’ve heard this described as the ‘Buy well, buy once’ mindset (so the opposite to shopping at IKEA, really!)

Also, he’s had the gardens at his private residence open to paying customers for the last 25 years (whereas most private royal residences are truly private and it’s the crown-owned ones that let us plebs close enough to gawp):

www.highgrovegardens.com/products/garden-tour

I expect other posters are right in that Nott Cott was fully furnished but with mismatched, old fashioned (ie antique!) furniture, so definitely nothing like the shades-of-white and soft-sofas Californian lifestyle Meghan prefers.

I don’t particularly like the royals but Harry’s book is sending them upwards in my estimation - Kensington Palace is a warehouse full of minor royals living amongst
similarly warehoused antiques.
If the accommodation and furnishing that you are generously loaned is not to your taste, damn right you should have to fund your own replacements!

Of course the heir and his heir are going to have their pick of the best bits of the royal estates, but the rest of them are hardly consigned to living in squalor.

He said Meghan was amazed, not him, and he felt she was comparing it to the inadequate NottCott and the money she'd spent on her own credit card at IKEA.

Because presumably it was clear to anyone with a brain that Nottingham cottage was serving as a “starter home” for royal couples until something bigger and more suitable could be selected, renovated and made available to them.

This is what happened for William and Kate (they lived in Anglesey from 2010 to July 2013, then Nottingham Cottage until 2014, when they moved into their newly renovated apartments at KP).

Harry moved into in Nottingham Cottage (by himself, obviously) after his BIL and SIL moved out. Meghan and he were officially living there following their engagement in late 2017. They were married in May 2018 and they moved to Frogmore in April 2019 after extensive renovations.

If Harry had wanted grander and bigger premises in the intervening years, he could presumably have asked for it. It was also reported in May 2018, at the time of their wedding, that the Duke of Gloucester would be moving out of his large apartment at KP to allow the newlyweds to use that as their London base. Obviously however this plan changed and Frogmore was selected.

crabbyapples · 06/01/2023 09:30

He was born with a silver spoon in his mouth.

How much more ludicrous is this poverty victimhood going to get?

mininionsteve · 06/01/2023 09:32

Completely missing the point but did Meghan go for a Kallax unit and some Hemnes in the bedroom? Or did they go for a full wall Billy with a corner piece?

TheClogLady · 06/01/2023 09:32

Bum, missed the comment I was replying to off my post re: Charles’ poshperson frugality above! It was this one!

BethJ62 · 06/01/2023 09:33

Am I right in saying that they requested an apartment within Windsor Castle but HM said no ? Also , I recall that when offered Frogmore they thought it was Frogmore House not the cottage ?

mumda · 06/01/2023 09:33

Will any one be going over it with a highlighter with a view to using it as divorce evidence.
