Meghan WAS banned from Balmoral after Queen’s death

In his book, Harry also claims that his father told him that Meghan should not come to Balmoral. The Queen was staying at her Scottish estate when she died last September.

The prince wrote: "Then my father called again. He told me I was welcome at Balmoral, but… without her. He started to explain his reasons, but they didn't make any sense at all, and it was disrespectful as well. I did not tolerate it from him.

"Don't even think about talking about my wife like that.

"Repentant, he said, stammering, that he simply didn't want the place to be full of people. Nobody's wife was going to go, not even Kate, he told me, so Meg shouldn't either."

So why did he need to say anything about it all?

For the same reason all other media said it. For public interest.

Morestrangethings · 06/01/2023 22:17

So which courtier fed Harry incorrect information?

Jeezus, to think this all could have been avoided if the powers in the RF could have seen fit to denounce the behaviour of those sections of the media who published racist and misogynistic articles in regard to Meghan, and misogynistic articles about previous royal brides, repeatedly , instead of using these articles to hide their own less than glorious behaviour. (I think it’s been well established by media and others that this is exactly what happens and has happened for a long long time).

if the monarchy/ royal family has to resort to these low tactics to stay popular, and in power, then they really are a grubby lot. I include Harry in this for most of his life, (but at least he’s fought for his wife). The Queen is gone now. The rest of them have looked like a pretty grubby, grabby bunch for years. They are all bent out of shape. Harry included. What the wives who marry into the family have to go through at the hands of the media, and now social media, is unconscionable.

I can’t help but think that season 5 The Crown’s portrayal of the Royal Family as a boring bunch of privileged people who would throw anyone overboard to save themselves is not far from the truth.

Exactly! If the Queen, William and the RF had simply put their foot down re the media and came out and defended Meghan as they had Kate, none if this would have happened. Call Harry crass all you want (and yes, his recent book is crass and has gone too far imo, even in my eyes as a Meghan supporter), BUT, the RF, Queen, William and Charles brought this all on themselves. I bet they regret not defending Meghan and pulling the media into line now. Meghan and Harry were forced to do the Oprah interview to put their side because the RF sure as shit wasn't doing anything. The RF/Queen made their choices, and Meghan and had to make their choice afterwards. This mess, really, is entirely the Queen/RF's entire fault. So I don't feel sympathy for Charles or William. They made their beds when they chose inaction. Now they've been publicly embarrassed in a book, and it's their fault and they deserve it all. If they had defended Meghan, NONE of this would even be happening right now.

How was it in public interest of everyone already knew?

The information was freely available, but not everyone knew. Same as why they kept on repeating the Queen had died, every hour on the news update, and every day for days afterwards. It's what news and journalists do.

MissMarpleRocks · 08/01/2023 08:45

They haven’t been embarrassed. They’ve been betrayed. If a family member did that to me I’d never speak to them again. Shame on Harry & shame on you that you defend him.

IMO, and in the opinion of those I've spoken to at work and friends recently - the only ones who've embarrassed themselves in a book inthe past few days are Harry, and he's managed to also embarrass his wife.

Going by the excerpts leaked I'd say the RF have just given a big sigh of relief.

Harry's the only one who comes out of this badly.

IAmWomanHearMeRoar1 · 08/01/2023 08:53

JADS · 07/01/2023 07:11

So something I have always wondered about this was why Harry got to go and the other cousins didn't (Peter, Eug, Zara, Bea)? I get Wills as he was next in line, but Harry's status as a non Dom means his Councillor of State role is redundant.

Were the RF still trying to show that Wills and Harry are on an equal footing?

Harry is still the son of the King.

The other grandchildren aren't. Both William and Harry are the son of the King, so equal in that respect.

Coxspurplepippin · 08/01/2023 09:21

But Harry has walked away from the RF so surely his position as son of king is irrelevant to him.

I thought the most telling bit of this particular story is that his hissy fit about Meghan not being able to accompany him wasn't about wanting Meghan's support but all about his concern that Kate was going and it wasn't fair.

When he was told Kate wasn't going he was seemingly ok with Meghan staying behind. Having once again causing the situation to be about him and his wife, causing stress to the family at a time of grief and sadness
.

DogBowlsAreMyWeapon · 08/01/2023 09:28

Wombat - I’m confused. What are the British media meant to have done to Meg that they didn’t do for Kate?

The media are there to report stories - not puff up a self-important fanny who request fawning, not reporting.

You might be thinking of Hello magazine?

milti · 08/01/2023 09:31

@DogBowlsAreMyWeapon quite right - And do we want a free press or one controlled by the royal family ?

Sugarfree23 · 08/01/2023 09:36

BradfordGirl · 07/01/2023 16:55

Officially they said at the time that Kate was not coming as it was the first day at school for her children. Now they are saying Kate was not invited either. I suspect the first statement is the truth.

I think it was a combination of factors. Kids first day at a new school, no friends as such, they'd had the press watch them going in, and such big news, all on the one day it made sense for Kate to stay home to support them rather than it being left to nannies.
But also the other DGC and Fergie never travelled either, they were potentially higher up the family pecking order than Kate / Meghan.

Blossomtoes · 08/01/2023 09:37

I don’t think they’ve been embarrassed at all. Quite the reverse, a lot of people are thinking they must be saints for putting up with Harry’s shit for so long.

Agree with @Blossomtoes! @IAmWomanHearMeRoar1 so are you then agreeing that for HaM the purpose of the book and 'telling their truth' was to be spiteful and cause embarrassment?

TizerorFizz · 08/01/2023 10:08

The purpose of the book is to make money! The publishers needed stories! They wouldn’t pay mega bucks for already known views and perceived slights. Harry had to dig the dirt. He’s gone over the top because he needed to.

JemimaTiggywinkles · 08/01/2023 10:22

I bet they regret not defending Meghan and pulling the media into line now.

As if any individual or organisation can pull the global media into line! Most of worst examples of media behaviour in the Netflix show were from non-UK media and social media, though they did try to portray it as the UK being the problem. In reality, we have really quite strict rules on what the press can cover. Which is why Meghan won her court case here but didn’t even attempt any in the US.

Harry is trying to control the narrative and is failing miserably. Just as Charles and Diana both tried to do in the 90s. It is a fools errand and the RF were quite correct to not bother trying.

I personally wouldn’t want to live somewhere the head of state was in charge of the media anyway. There are countries who manage to control the narrative within their own borders, but they aren’t places we should aspire to become.

ancientgran · 08/01/2023 10:44

BradfordGirl · 07/01/2023 21:04

@NimrodNimroy Not my opinion. All those defending Meghan not being allowed to go have said it would have been the Queen's decision. So if the Queen decides Meghan can not go, she also decided other grandchildren could not go and which grandchildren could go.
Or someone else made that decision? Charles? Maybe he decided Harry and William could come but not other grandchildren?

Or other GC had commitments, family/location/business, that meant they couldn't get there at the drop of a hat.

Was anyone really desperate to know if he was circumcised?
Would that persuade anyone to pay upto £28 for a book?

I find that seriously weird and for the record I'm not interested in his penis and I think people who are must have a rather peculiar hang up. So I don't think he needed to include that and it was a massive invasion of his brother's privacy if he included him in that revelation.

SnowAndIceLobelia · 08/01/2023 10:54

Actually that might be the issue. he was being paid for dirt, but did not have any. Not real dirt anyway. So he had to go OTT on the rubbish and big it up because he had nothing and he knew it. His big reveals are so cringy. I almost imagine him desperately saying... 'Okay.. so what about this [insert story of pissing himself] ' and the publisher tutting and raising an eyebrow.

I don't like being watched, I liked giving birth alone but got bullied by midwives into having DH there for one birth, it wasn't for me.

Totally off topic - sorry- but I so agree! I gave birth to all my children without any "spectators" and preferred it that way.
When it comes to dying - I don't know. Of course I may not be in a position to choose.
And, yes, I'm ancient too

We're all different aren't we. You're right that we don't necessarily get the choice, I suppose if I get hit by a bus tomorrow the people watching won't be my loved ones and if it happens it happens. It is the sitting round the bed watching I feel uncomfortable with in childbirth or death. Who knows how the Queen felt, she might have been longing for them all to go home and give her a bit of peace and quiet or she might have wanted every child/GC/GGC sitting with her constantly or probably something in between.

Can you imagine the outcry if William had said something about Harry being circumcised.? I asked that question previously and was told it is common in those circles so no big deal ! Of course it’s a big deal !

True. Harry said Charles did not even give him a hug when he told him his mum had died.

Oh, must be true then if Harry said it. The man never known to lie...

As Charles had just lost his mother maybe it should have been Harry giving him a hug.

Yes it would have been awful if William had done it, Harry would have been very upset. I don't think it matter if it is common or if people don't think it matters, the point is it is private information and the only person who should release that information is the person themself. Awkward in this case as one brother disclosing it does imply the other one did as well but it could have been medical reasons for one and not the other which is why I said if he included William in the revelation. I haven't read the book so not sure if he made it plain it was both of them.

A family member would never do it to me because I am supportive of my family members.

BlackFriday · 08/01/2023 11:41

My DH was overcome with emotion after delivering his eulogy after his young niece died. I didn't hug him when he returned to his seat and I'm sure some of the congregation behind us must have thought I was a callous cow. But I KNEW, what with him being my husband and all that, he didn't want that and he would have shrugged off anyone who tried. He retreats inside himself at such times.

So, re: Harry/Charles and the alleged non-existent hug, there may well be another side to this or a re-writing of history through Harry's new "lens."

MissMarpleRocks · 08/01/2023 11:48

Morestrange perhaps you are right perhaps not but it’s my opinion.
