Meghan WAS banned from Balmoral after Queen’s death

In his book, Harry also claims that his father told him that Meghan should not come to Balmoral. The Queen was staying at her Scottish estate when she died last September.

The prince wrote: "Then my father called again. He told me I was welcome at Balmoral, but… without her. He started to explain his reasons, but they didn't make any sense at all, and it was disrespectful as well. I did not tolerate it from him.

"Don't even think about talking about my wife like that.

"Repentant, he said, stammering, that he simply didn't want the place to be full of people. Nobody's wife was going to go, not even Kate, he told me, so Meg shouldn't either."

Good idea - toxic in-laws are not a good idea when your relative dies.

I think Kate stayed away tactically so it didn’t look like only Meghan was being excluded. And Meghan was excluded because everybody hated her and therefore it would have been utterly inappropriate!

I think this also. I said it at the time too.

LivelyBlake · 05/01/2023 20:59

Harry has the sensitivity of a grey stone

Ylvamoon · 05/01/2023 21:00

So both Kate and Megs were excluded.

Not sure what HIS or HER issue is with that particular decision.

Charles stumbles on his words when his mum just died… big news.

where is Harry’s empathy, this man who is supposed to be so into his mental health stuff? Charles just lost his mum

The word “banned” seems an extreme nd deliberate interpretation of events.

“we are keeping it to immediate family as it’s difficult day for everyone” doesn’t translate to “Your wife IS BANNED”. I reckon everyone is entitled to strong feelings the day their mum dies. And excluding someone from coming to express sympathy, someone who slagged off you and your family on international TV - well I think you’re entitled to say don’t come, you just don’t want to deal with it right now, when your mum just died.

so even if the words or intent were a ban, then so what? I wouldn’t have welcomed Meghan in Charles’ position, not on that day.

All of this.

But they have to be the perpetual victims, it's truly pathetic at this point. Everything is spun as a slight against them.

I have no doubt this was the case.

What am I missing?

if it applied to Kate too why a problem specifically??

Because Meghan is SpEciAl

MerryChristmasToYou · 05/01/2023 21:02

It was just the children who took their spouses. Not news and she wasn't BANNED.

PuttingDownRoots · 05/01/2023 21:02

I thought Kate didn't go as it was the kids first day at school plus she presumably had to tell them the news...

Not to mention running off to the media to report on every single word, perceived slight and gesture from the RF. Sell to the highest bidder, quick!

cyclamenqueen · 05/01/2023 21:03

I think Kate also stayed at home because it was the children’s first day at a new school and a Louis first day in reception . She collected them from school that day .

MerryChristmasToYou · 05/01/2023 21:04

P W and PH were there becasue they are KC's DC. Other DGC were not there

Absolutely agree

sashagabadon · 05/01/2023 21:06

What a rude and ungrateful son Harry is. The last thing a son should be doing when his father needs support is acting like a prick. Poor Charles having to put up with Harry all these years.

Nimbostratus100 · 05/01/2023 21:07

when my father died his children came, his sons and daughters in law didn't. They were mostly looking after the grandchildren, but there would not have been space for everyone to descend on the house, anyway. Or food, Or any input needed from in inlaws at that particular moment

bellac11 · 05/01/2023 21:07

Why do people keep calling him Harold, Ive seen this on another thread tonight. His name is Henry

SchrodingersKettle · 05/01/2023 21:07

Also that use of the word “repentant” is provocative and unprovable.

how can Harold know Charles felt repentant? He could have been thinking “oh no not another fight over Meghan, today or all days” so was trying to smooth things over. He could have been expressing “sorry” in the very English way we say “sorry” for everything when we aren’t actually sorry, what we mean is we just don’t want the other person to be upset.

This book could be pulled apart by an English A level student. It’s rubbish.

MrsRobinsonsHandprints · 05/01/2023 21:07

The other grandchildren were not allowed their either. Grandchildren that had known her all their lives, who loved her.

1000yellowdaisies · 05/01/2023 21:08

Charles was quite right here. If every spouse of the Queen's children and grandchildren went it would have been a circus. The Queen barely knew Meghan and was entitled to pass with just close family around. Why couldn't Harry go on his own anyway? He's obsessed with pushing Meghan's status and having their relationship validated, its pathetic

Soontobe60 · 05/01/2023 21:08

When my DM died in February, she didn’t even want her children with her, let alone our partners.
The decision as to who gets to sit at one’s bed whilst one dies is often made by the person actually doing the dying. Maybe the Queen only wanted her children and grandchildren with her?

Grumpybutfunny · 05/01/2023 21:12

I'm sure he's having some kind of mental break down.

EdithWeston · 05/01/2023 21:12

PuttingDownRoots · 05/01/2023 21:02

I thought Kate didn't go as it was the kids first day at school plus she presumably had to tell them the news...

Yes, she stayed with the DC, who surely needed a parent there to break the news suitably and to be as comforting a presence as possible.

And it wasn't just first day at school - it was first day at a brand new school, so that bit harder and no established friends or teachers who know them, and a brand new routine.

So yes, it was ER II's DC and their spouses, with William (direct heir) as the only one of the 8 DGC.

I don't think anyone would have booted Harry off the plane if it was just him.

But I think, with hindsight, it's pretty plain that they wanted real privacy in the first few hours.
