Meghan WAS banned from Balmoral after Queen’s death

In his book, Harry also claims that his father told him that Meghan should not come to Balmoral. The Queen was staying at her Scottish estate when she died last September.

The prince wrote: "Then my father called again. He told me I was welcome at Balmoral, but… without her. He started to explain his reasons, but they didn't make any sense at all, and it was disrespectful as well. I did not tolerate it from him.

"Don't even think about talking about my wife like that.

"Repentant, he said, stammering, that he simply didn't want the place to be full of people. Nobody's wife was going to go, not even Kate, he told me, so Meg shouldn't either."

You have absolutely no way of knowing that at all. Your opinion is not a fact.

The Queen was clear about her funeral plans. She had also said that she wanted Anne to accompany her on her journey back to London so it is reasonable to assume she knew who she wanted with her at the end .
To be honest I am surprised that Harry was included .

BradfordGirl · 07/01/2023 21:19

Well maybe Harry is right then and he was her favourite grandchild?
Surely if one of the others was her favourite show would have wanted them there?

toomuchlaundry · 07/01/2023 21:21

I'm assuming it was more constitutional, as William and Harry are the sons of the King

That’s far too sensible for this thread.

Everyone berating Harry for not being supportive to Charles who at 73 had lost his 96 year old
mother. Perhaps its a reflection on how Charles treat him when he lost HIS mother, at the age of 12?

Just a thought

BradfordGirl · 07/01/2023 21:26

True. Harry said Charles did not even give him a hug when he told him his mum had died.

Mañanarama · 07/01/2023 21:29

Harry and Meghan were on a short trip to Europe on business (Invictus, I think?) when the Queen died, they had not planned to visit her in Balmoral during that visit.

It doesn’t seem like there was enough time for the Queen or anyone else to start “inviting” people to her death bed. It was all a bit chaotic.

Oh come on ! It was obvious that our 96 year old Monarch was nearing the end of her life . HM was very pragmatic and would have been plans long before the day she died.

BethJ62 · 07/01/2023 21:53

And yes , H and M were on a short trip to Europe however they could easily have gone to Balmoral to see HM . Contrary to what some broadcasters made out when the Queen died , Aberdeen and surrounding area is easily accessible from London and with H and M’s fondness for private jets , a visit would have been easy .

Yes, but it was reported at the time that Harry was not going to visit her while he was in the country. That particular day started off as normal until it all scrambled into hastily made arrangements. The only one already at Balmoral was Anne, even Charles wasn’t helicoptered in (from elsewhere in Scotland) until mid morning.

Pretty sure the others would have flown up there much earlier, had they known what the day would bring.

BradfordGirl · 07/01/2023 22:23

They were working and had engagements.

toomuchlaundry · 07/01/2023 22:36

@BradfordGirl if i was visiting near where my elderly Gran lived (and was used to a jet setting lifestyle) I would have factored in time to see her, especially if I was her favourite grandchild

BradfordGirl · 07/01/2023 22:55

I would have too. And I would have been like Anne and stayed close when it was clear the Queen was dying. But not all her children did.

They had no engagements on the Wednesday

You really think Andrew and Edward knew their mum was about to die and chose to stay hundreds of miles away? You don’t think it’s more likely that her condition deteriorated suddenly overnight?

I know ridiculous. As if. If the medical supervisors were worried they would have told them the end was coming. They obviously didn’t till the day.

BradfordGirl · 07/01/2023 23:03

I do not think they thought she would die that suddenly. But Anne was staying very close by and visiting her every day. They knew she was deteriorating.

But it is up to individuals what they do and how they balance their life. I was just agreeing with you that if I was harry I would have visited the Queen, and if I was Andrew or Edward I would have stayed close by and visited the Queen every day.

BradfordGirl · 07/01/2023 23:04

And I did this when my mum was obviously deteriorating although I was told it could be months. Fra far harder for me to do this than rich members of the Royal Family.
But I accept everyone makes their own judgements.

That’s quite obviously what happened. The Queen received Liz Truss two days before she died.

Wasn't she doing official engagements a couple days before she died? That certainly implies that she deteriorated rather quickly. I'm sure if everyone knew that she was going downhill that fast they would have stayed closer.

BradfordGirl · 07/01/2023 23:06

@Blossomtoes The point is you all criticise Harry for not visiting but for everyone else who did not visit that was fine.
I would not care if you were consistent. But it is purely about criticising Harry and Meghan whatever they do.

hoipolloih · 07/01/2023 23:07

Can't believe she would have the gall to even consider going! What's wrong with them?

It was very clear from photos taken a few days before that she was deteriorating.
If course all the Royalists were claiming that she was in rude health.

YetMoreNewBeginnings · 07/01/2023 23:08

I’m sure the BBC Anne had engagements in the he north of Scotland the day before the Queen died and wasn’t due back in London until later.

Its fortuitous that she was there already rather than planned because the Queen was ill.

Would that not have alerted the whole world to the fact that the Queen didn’t have long to live? Wouldn’t there have been to crews and journalists on some sort of “death watch”? That would have been lovely for the Queen 🙄. It was difficult enough for the family to decide when to go so as not to alert the public to her impending death
