Meghan WAS banned from Balmoral after Queen’s death

In his book, Harry also claims that his father told him that Meghan should not come to Balmoral. The Queen was staying at her Scottish estate when she died last September.

The prince wrote: "Then my father called again. He told me I was welcome at Balmoral, but… without her. He started to explain his reasons, but they didn't make any sense at all, and it was disrespectful as well. I did not tolerate it from him.

"Don't even think about talking about my wife like that.

"Repentant, he said, stammering, that he simply didn't want the place to be full of people. Nobody's wife was going to go, not even Kate, he told me, so Meg shouldn't either."

That they body would be brought to london by train.

The 'London Bridge' plan for when the Queen died, did state that, if she died in Scotland, her body would return to London by train and would stop at major stations for civic expressions of respect/condolence, and that people would be able to see the train passing through communities. It would be met in London by the King and her other children. That changed after her death.

That was my understanding. My bloke wanted to go to our local station and pay his respects on the platform, he was disappointed when the plan was changed.

The Queen's death was formally announced to the public 20 minutes after Harry was told.

I don’t think that’s what Harry says ? Did he not say he saw on the BBC website ?

@milveycrohn It is not always possible for spouses to be there after your parents or grandparents have died. But most people do not ban them. Most people recognise that the people who loved the person who dies needs support and so needs their spouse there if they want them there.

But I am sure we will have loads more posts about dysfunctional families and how with their dying breath their mum told them not to allow their husband to join her in the house after their mum's death, and that was the right thing to do.

With the many comments about adults in families assaulting other adults and this being seen as normal and fine, I am realising how many people here live in highly dysfunctional families.

We are talking about what happened immediately before the Queen died. Most people recognise that what comes first in that situation is the needs and wishes of the ill and dying, not those of their adult grandchildren.

Immediately after she died, what came first was her children. It's not as if Harry is even saying he was desperate for support, he seems simply to be miffed that he was being asked not to bring his wife. But if he needed support, he had a phone, and no-one was making him stay.

Alltheprettyseahorses · 06/01/2023 18:07

Furthermore the rf was worried the Queen’s death would be announced by Omid Scobie. A courtier fed Harry (and only Harry) some false info (royal train) and lo and behold Omid Scobie repeated it.

That vile Colin Campbell woman announced the death didn't she? I remember from social media. So it'd be more useful to find out who leaked it to her than chuck around weird unfounded accusations at your hate figure du jour.

The royal train being used from Scotland has been official plans for years anyway AFAIK, and has been covered in loads of newspaper articles and even in YouTube videos about Operation London Bridge. It wouldn't be a leak for this Scobie person to post about it and imagine the plot twist if the allegation was true and the courtier did try to set up Harry but leaked to the press themself to make sure it worked.

Anyway, like I said, who leaked to Lady Colin Campbell? That would make an interesting thread if everyone wasn't so obsessed with hating Meghan and Harry.

When I was with my mum when she was dying I was not watching a performance. It is a disgusting concept.

Exactly. The point is that Harry seems to think it was a performance to which grandchildren and grandchildren's spouses should have been invited

Morestrangethings · 06/01/2023 22:17

hopeishere · 06/01/2023 16:26

That they body would be brought to london by train.

So which courtier fed Harry incorrect information?

Jeezus, to think this all could have been avoided if the powers in the RF could have seen fit to denounce the behaviour of those sections of the media who published racist and misogynistic articles in regard to Meghan, and misogynistic articles about previous royal brides, repeatedly , instead of using these articles to hide their own less than glorious behaviour. (I think it’s been well established by media and others that this is exactly what happens and has happened for a long long time).

if the monarchy/ royal family has to resort to these low tactics to stay popular, and in power, then they really are a grubby lot. I include Harry in this for most of his life, (but at least he’s fought for his wife). The Queen is gone now. The rest of them have looked like a pretty grubby, grabby bunch for years. They are all bent out of shape. Harry included. What the wives who marry into the family have to go through at the hands of the media, and now social media, is unconscionable.

I can’t help but think that season 5 The Crown’s portrayal of the Royal Family as a boring bunch of privileged people who would throw anyone overboard to save themselves is not far from the truth.

Many families have an in law they dislike, just look at other posts on mums net.
The latest revelations confirm what I thought at the start. Harry was besotted by Meghan, the rest of the family most definitely not. So they would not have wanted her anywhere near the dying matriarch. Or anyone else come to that. But Harry likes her welded to his side (or is it the other way round?) hence the fuss.
I can envisage the other royals in the plane, waiting for him to get his dog bowl wounded arse there and stop faffing about. Then William said "sod this for a game of 25 Taliban killing soldiers" and they flew up without him.

There’s a quote by the queen apparently, saying
’I think Harry’s in love. Perhaps a little too in love’

Seems to sum it up pretty well

PicturesOfDogs · 06/01/2023 23:57

BradfordGirl · 06/01/2023 13:13

@Coxspurplepippin I thought the plane would not wait for Harry? There was no delay. He had to make his own way there.
Harry was not contacted until the Queen had died.

There was a delay, for about an hour while they waited for him. It was widely reported at the time I believe. I certainly remember it.
At some point William said fuck him and they left.

Come to think of it, I think there might be have been some sleuthing.
Maybe one of those flight apps, where they could see a private jet meant to be leaving at x time, and then was still there later.

I might be wrong though

Exactly . Harry was supposed to travel with them but was running late because of the Meghan issue . Eventually William said they were to go .

It was all over flightradar - the flight was being monitored by thousands.....

asblindasabat · 07/01/2023 00:11

I wonder if when he eventually got to Balmoral he got to have a private moment with the Queen after she had died?

Yeah, I didn’t realised the thread had moved on that much since I posted, the info has been posted already in far more detail than my vague recollections 😂

I thought this was all old news tbh

Sophie had practically lived with the Queen since Philip's death.

Yes, of course. So she was a longer established member of the royal family, married to the Queen’s son and had offered great support to the Queen by being with her so much.

Rather different to a recently married, non-working Royal, married to a grandson of the queen,

Apparently so, and he’s repeated those last words in the book….

This is them.
' Upon arriving at Balmoral, he was greeted by Anne, the Princess Royal, who then took him upstairs to a room where the late Sovereign was lying.

He writes: 'I advanced with uncertainty and saw her. I stayed still, watching her carefully for a good while.

'I whispered that I hoped she was happy and that she was with Grandfather now. I said that I admired her for having carried out her duties until the end. The [Platinum] Jubilee, the welcoming of the new Prime Minister'.'

caringcarer · 07/01/2023 00:49

The Queen had invited Harry and Meghan to Balmoral 4 times when she was alive. Each time they declined. Charles, Anne, Andrew and Edward all looked gutted. It was right grandchildren's wives were not invited. As it turns out Harry just wanted more material for his book. He put in it what words he said to his dead Grannie.

BradfordGirl · 07/01/2023 00:55

All I have ever seen was that the Queen invited them in the summer of 2019 to a big family summer gathering, they declined.
In 2020 the Queen invited them again and they declined because of concerns about security.

I totally understand them declining the invite to the summer gathering. It would have been very unpleasant given how tense some family relationships were at the time.

Ah that’s kind of sweet. Although, I’m surprised she was still in the room she had passed in when Harry got there. I thought they’d have placed her in her coffin (respectfully) very soon after she had passed.

toomuchlaundry · 07/01/2023 01:03

@BradfordGirl if you understand why they didn’t accept an invitation to see the Queen, why do you think Meghan wanted to see the Queen on her deathbed?
