Meghan WAS banned from Balmoral after Queen’s death

In his book, Harry also claims that his father told him that Meghan should not come to Balmoral. The Queen was staying at her Scottish estate when she died last September.

The prince wrote: "Then my father called again. He told me I was welcome at Balmoral, but… without her. He started to explain his reasons, but they didn't make any sense at all, and it was disrespectful as well. I did not tolerate it from him.

"Don't even think about talking about my wife like that.

"Repentant, he said, stammering, that he simply didn't want the place to be full of people. Nobody's wife was going to go, not even Kate, he told me, so Meg shouldn't either."

Thank you. Isn't it awful if we can't even say how we'd like our own death to be as other people think they have rights to dictate.

It is awful yes. I notice though that in these days of lives lived on SM, it seems more and more acceptable to attempt to police and control other peoples ideas and behaviour, usually using tactical shaming and hyperbole. It’s very toxic.

hopeishere · 06/01/2023 13:24

I agree this was the issue. The main plane left late because of the argument about Meghan coming.

Also agree no detail on the reasons on purpose in case people went "fair enough". It's all so one sided.

Again, how do any of us know why the plane was late taking off, if it did take off late, that Harry held it up? Did this come from Harry, or one of the other members of the royal family or was this through ‘a source’, again?

hopeishere · 06/01/2023 15:34

It was from the Flightradar24 info where they have to log the take off time and you could see it was sitting there on the ground for ages. I think they had boarded.

Of course it may have been for technical or other reasons.

Mañanarama · 06/01/2023 15:38

It was scheduled to leave at 1:30 but didn’t until 2:39 and would have had all staff and crew ready to go given the gravity of the situation. It wasn’t late because they’d got over excited by the bargains in duty free or because someone sat in the bar too long. What other reason is there other than they were waiting for someone?

toomuchlaundry · 06/01/2023 15:38

I assume if they had technical issues they would have put them on another another aircraft if possible, as everything was so time critical

Sugarfree23 · 06/01/2023 15:41

Exactly you can't have the heir to the throne and every other senior roysl in a plane with technical issues.

True - and further to that you don't knowingly have anyone on a plane with technical issues

You don't have that many heirs travelling together either, just in case of out-of-the-blue disaster. On that flight, when it took off it had numbers 2, 9 and 11 (and they'd all moved up one by the time it landed Sad )

@BradfordGirl , family death rituals may vary, but surely you can’t believe it appropriate that an in-law should attend who has publicly slagged off your family ? If your dh had upset your grandmother, would you have still had him accompany you?

As I have said upthread, how either oblivious or thick-skinned must Meghan be? I would never have had the brass neck to go to Balmoral.

Furthermore the rf was worried the Queen’s death would be announced by Omid Scobie. A courtier fed Harry (and only Harry) some false info (royal train) and lo and behold Omid Scobie repeated it.

It is a terrifying thought that after William, the next two adults on the list are Harry and Andrew. What would happen if Charles and William both die before George turns 18?

We get a Regency

Harry would be excluded on grounds of residency overseas, Andrew I hope would have the good sense to decline the role, and Beatrice and Eugenie aren't working Royals. So best outcome would be for them in their role as Counsellors of State to petition Parliament to install Edward and Anne as co-Regents for formal Royal duties with Catherine retaining responsibility for upbringing and education.

HymenOrNot · 06/01/2023 16:11

The other confounding issue with the delays was the atrocious weather in NE Scotland that day

Torrential rain low cloud and poor visibility

This would impact the Aberdeen-Balmoral part of the journey most which would under normal conditions be a brief 15 min helicopter ride

With the weather as it was, instead it meant a car journey in adverse road conditions of over an hour

Hurrying or not taking proper precautions in this weather could put other senior royals at uneccessary risk

Had the Queen not been dying it might have been a case of lets go later/ tomorrow

The Regency Act would come into place.

Either Harry would be very quickly re-domiciled in the Uk or Andrew would be next in line.

In reality it would most likely be Beatrice or Catherine - a provision was put in place when Charles was under 18 to make it Philip instead of Margaret.

A lot would depend on public opinion at the time imo. That would dictate pretty much everything.

Perfect, I’d be alright with that. Though if I had a vote I’d go for Zara and Mike!

That they body would be brought to london by train.

No. He says in the book he found out when his plane landed via the BBC website.

Yes, they waited until he landed and someone was able to break the news to him in person. You can’t say fairer than that.

I think she died before his flight took off, but I guess they couldn’t risk him telling Meghan / Omid before the rest of the wider family had been informed. They obviously don’t trust him one bit, and you can’t say fairer than that, either.

Daisymaker · 06/01/2023 16:28

It might have been the first time that M and H had saw some of the RF since the Oprah interview, not really the or the place for an awkward reunion. Harry should have been thinking about how to support his father not arguing about making sure his wife attended

Omid and the train story:

The journalist who wrote Harry and Meghan's biography has admitted making an error after telling a US news channel that the Queen's coffin would travel from Scotland 'over to the UK'.

Omid Scobie, a favoured journalist of the Duke and Duchess of Sussex, mistakenly appeared to suggest that Scotland is not part of the UK.

He also said the Queen would be taken to London on 'one of the royal trains', despite there only being one royal train and the fact Her Majesty will be transported by plane.

hopeishere · 06/01/2023 16:26

That they body would be brought to london by train.

He was far from the only one saying that though?

Most places said it because it was the plan that had been put in place years ago. It was just changed because of the level of disruption it would bring.

It was talked about long before the Queen even died whenever London Bridge and Unicorn came up.

Tbh though we don't know who was driving at her being there.

It could have been Harry pushing for it.

Perhaps, but having her seen her nudge Harry out of the way and charge forward to ensure she’s in the place her seniority decrees, I know what I think! 😁
