The royal family

It's shocking how much harder the older Royals are working

The Princess of Wales barely outworked Queen Elizabeth who died in early September after cancelling a series of engagements.

Charles and Anne look to be carrying the monarchy at present. The Earl and Countess of Wessex are grafting hard as well.

What do William and Kate spend their days doing? Surely as young energetic members of the RF, they should be pulling their weight.

Will was very late to the game for an heir to the throne - by comparison both his father and younger brother had much more substantial projects and public work underway by their early 30s.

Didn’t William continue with a “proper job” for much longer? He was 35 by the time he left the air ambulance (which was a FT job).

Like any of you actually know what they are and aren't doing
You only see public engagements which as a new king charles will do more
No one has any idea what is going on behind closed doors

And so the myth that they work hard is perpetuated on and on. Because everything is clouded in secrecy. Bit like a lot of the finances too.

Quite. In all fairness l wouldn’t work full time, if l had 3 primary school age children

Lots of us would like to be rich and idle with a nanny and a housekeeper to deal with the children.

Kate married into this position, she could've married some random millionaire and remained anonymous. She is picked apart, her weight is scrutinised as is her marriage and her motives, her past jobs, her family. Her kids are in the public eye, even little George's outfits are ripped apart and mocked, how cruel. I don't envy a minute of it. If she wants to work part time and wear designer clothes I don't bloody blame her.

Charles and Anne are brilliant for their age though aren't they? Lots if respect for them!

Spect8 · 31/12/2022 15:16

Yes they moved home - to Windsor I believe?

Gossip has it, (and let's face it that's all they are good for really, that and frocks) that the abandonment of Anmer Hall was to remove William from the opportunity of being caught in flagrante delicto.

Few care if they work hard or not, they just want photos and rumours.

@Roussette it strikes me as jealousy from most , I can't do it so why should they ?
They will be being prepared for taking over and all sorts and will also have to do what Charles asks of them. They can't just rock up at what they want
The myth of not working hard also lives on whilst people only judge public engagement as work , no one has any idea but a lot of jealousy on here thats for sure

healthadvice123 · 31/12/2022 15:20

Also so many hypocrites on here , so many if you I bet were saying how badly meghan and Harry were treated but kate & william are falr game ?
Gossip and rumours are awful spread by people on here who have no proof of anything and its such double standards

healthadvice123 · 31/12/2022 15:22

@tatalan you seem very bitter and jealous of people you don't actually know
It affects your life in zero way whatsoever , yet happy to gossip and create hate as thats all posts like these do
Did nobody learn from Meghan and Harry

Looking after their young children? Perhaps C&C, along with other senior royals, want to give them the opportunity to be as close to a normal family as they can for as long as they can, given they know better than anyone the burden William and Kate Will be taking on?

This. It is clear C&C dote on the children and likely want their parents to spend more time with them. Times have moved on. People already whinge they're away from the kids too much

1000yellowdaisies · 31/12/2022 15:25

Ive often thought this. Princess Anne does so much more than William and Kate. And enough with the '3 small children' business. They are averaging 2.5 engagements per week, plenty of parents with small children work full time. Especially given that 1 engagement could only take a couple of hours.

tatalan · 31/12/2022 15:34

Princess Kate wore £176,664 worth of clothing for 138 engagements in 2022.

How do you feel about this?

With his wife it would not be wrong, but with someone else it would be..... I presume!

I think a big part of that is they don't show real passion and energy for it.

Remember when Jill Biden met Kate to talk about early years stuff? She was surprised at how fluffy and brief it was and made a comment that it was just a photo op. She expected more. In fairness to Kate I think she's very shy in situations like that but when you know your subject that can carry you through a nerve-wracking situation and that in turn brings others with you. Diana was shy too but she put herself out there, raised money etc. And the trouble is I don't think Kate is developing those skills so it will obviously continue to be very daunting. And especially now at 10 years in, the expectations are that much higher.

But really it's William who should be doing more, and also supporting her more. I don't think much of it is Kate's fault.

I expect both of them to work harder tbh.
I do agree that there seems to be a distinct lack of real passion for their causes.

They're at Amner Hall now or straight after Christmas they were so don't believe that. Amner Hall is where they go to most weekends.

They live in one of their 4 houses, yes. In Windsor, near Windsor Castle. Adelaide Cottage I think.

Being a mum to 3 is working though?
this is Mumsnet. We are know being a mum is work here!

You'd have thought so wouldn't you.

I bet if Kate was on walk about and tours every week, people would be soon be wingeing on about child neglect, leaving them with nannies, yada yada.

One hopes she is raising the next generation to be well-adjusted and able to pick up their royal duties without all the insecurities and sadness caused by absent parenting of the previous generations.

mathanxiety · 31/12/2022 15:52

Define 'working'...

What about the money aspect, all well and good if she wants to focus on the kids. But they have the expenses of full time working royals 🤔

Your friend doesn’t need to attend public events where everything she does and says is scrutinised though. What she wears, etc. Or have her children on public display. That’s not worth any amount of money really. They also can’t go out and shop or go to the pub or go on a normal holiday. They are in a zoo. It has guided bars, but it’s a zoo all the same.

Sorry - that is utter crud. We see them only when they want us to see them.

Thereare never papped on holidays or out and about.

They move about with remarkable ease and in private. They fly in helicoptors for internal short jorneys and by private plane for the rest. They have armies of people making sure that they have a private life and a very good one at that.

They have no need to put their children on display. I believe they use them as a distraction, an offering.

I also think that KC and PW send Camilla and Kate out as a distraction<

We focus on their clothes, costs, aging,. hair etc. That way we do not focus on the King and Prince.

But we should focus on them because they own it all.

I'm not sure it's jealousy to be honest. Certainly not from me, I can't begin to imagine who on earth would want their closeted, restricted, lives. I know they are priviliged but my god you have to really love the Monarchy and want the RF to survive forever to even entertain being part of it.

I honestly don't think they work hard. There is always talk of Kate at the gym, swimming every day, personal trainers, playing tennis... I just don't think so. William... who knows what he fills his day with.

It's a different life that no one can identify with, except perhaps a billionaire.

But surely normal joe public manages to raise balanced loved children whilst Mum and Dad both working in a lot of cases?

Just for the record, I couldn't care less where they live. Just joining in the gossipy fun, which is a great way to pass the time and most people don't care about the walkabouts/charities/opening a hospital etc. It's all about the FROCKS, BOTOX and GOSSIP!

A Rose by any other name would smell as sweet. LOL

In fairness, Harry and Meghan seemed to pull their weight when they were working royals. For all the accusations thrown at them I don't think "lazy" was one.

And how is talking about the number of engagements royals carry out "gossip"?
