The royal family

It's shocking how much harder the older Royals are working

The Princess of Wales barely outworked Queen Elizabeth who died in early September after cancelling a series of engagements.

Charles and Anne look to be carrying the monarchy at present. The Earl and Countess of Wessex are grafting hard as well.

What do William and Kate spend their days doing? Surely as young energetic members of the RF, they should be pulling their weight.

Lol @ this - like someone said above they must have a great PR team who should be applauded for making people believe the work they do could be in any way be comparable to the behind the scenes work done by a teacher etc!

They have an office full of staff who will organise their diaries, brief them on what they are doing & provide background info on who they are meeting etc. I would be very surprised if they had to do much behind the scenes work/research themselves but maybe I’m wrong (doubt it though!)

But surely normal joe public manages to raise balanced loved children whilst Mum and Dad both working in a lot of cases?

Being fair, I think raising a balanced child is harder in the monarchy. First you have the press intrusion, then the fact that the existence of a 'Golden Child' (heir) is baked into the royal hierarchy they are born into.

I'm a staunch republican, but I don't think that aspect of their lives is easy.

Looking after their young children? Perhaps C&C, along with other senior royals, want to give them the opportunity to be as close to a normal family as they can for as long as they can, given they know better than anyone the burden William and Kate Will be taking on?

Most 'normal families' have parents that work full time. I'd love to 'work' 138 days per year!! Lots of people with 3 plus kids have to work full time. What are they doing for the rest of their time?

Kate has three primary school age children. I think it’s completely reasonable for her to work part time.

Come on...she has help! I know heaps of mums of 3 that work full time without the help. Let's not feel sorry for this woman.

Princess Kate wore £176,664 worth of clothing for 138 engagements in 2022.

How do you feel about this?

Her clothing is paid for from Charles' (non Civil List) income.

I take your point, yes. Not so easy. Extra restrictions, rules, etiquette etc.

They have no idea what real work is.

They will never have to.

Nope! Don't feel sorry for them in the slightest. They won't know what having it tough means!

I have two disabled school aged kiddies. One is at home full time and one at home part time because there is no school in an hour radius of our home that can meet their needs.

I'm also attempting to hold down 2 part time jobs working 23 hours a week without childcare.

I'm invariably woken in the night multiple times between the children and I'm up between 6-7am and often don't make it to he'd until 1am.

I am responsible for 95% if the cooking, cleaning, laundry, out if school activities and multiple medical appointments (approx 6 a month) as my other half works full time and then works an extra couple of hours each evening and weekends to make enough money to keep our tiny rented house over our heads. We're officially overcrowded and my other half only has the sofa to sleep on due to our situation.

Let W and K come and live like us for a month and then see how the other half live.

We've worked all our lives, university educated but paid to put ourselves through Uni but none of that is enough to really live comfortably.

PlinkyPlonk1 · 31/12/2022 16:36

We have no respite either!

Kate married into this position, she could've married some random millionaire and remained anonymous. She is picked apart, her weight is scrutinised as is her marriage and her motives, her past jobs, her family. Her kids are in the public eye, even little George's outfits are ripped apart and mocked, how cruel. I don't envy a minute of it. If she wants to work part time and wear designer clothes I don't bloody blame her.

Charles and Anne are brilliant for their age though aren't they? Lots if respect for them!

This is on par for any celeb and they are all desperate for this lifestyle. You might think them above it, but they are still celebs more than public servants

Roussette · 31/12/2022 16:47

@PlinkyPlonk1 Well done you and your DH. That sounds so hard Flowers

Imagine barely working part time, having a fully staffed house, and using 'we get by with only one full time nanny' as a kind of boast Grin How do they manage! They even moved house!!

😂😂😂

I don’t know how they do it!

😂😂😂

Only by the grace of God, oh how they suffered 🙃

@PlinkyPlonk1

That is so hard 💐, sleep deprivation is so tough, as is looking after kids with additional needs and being the one responsible for their care and chasing supports and appointments and follow ups without any respite.

Goldpaw · 31/12/2022 18:16

Harry showed a real passion for Invictus. Earthshot seems to have been created so that William would be seen to be doing something.

No, I don't know that, but the only real animation I see with Kate is when she attends sporting events and when she wore that gold dress to the latest James Bond premiere.

Where's William's true passions? What does he really want to achieve as a person, instead of being seen to achieve?

And what's this early years stuff invented for Kate? What exactly is it, what is it meant to achieve? What does she actually do?

Jill Biden had it on the money when she said her and Kate's meeting was a bit of fluff for the cameras, that's all any of what the Wales' do is.

Ohnonevermind · 31/12/2022 18:20

@Goldpaw

Where did Jill Biden say that ? I’ve looked but couldn’t find it

Ohnonevermind · 31/12/2022 18:23

@Goldpaw

Its been mentioned a number of times so there must be a reputable source.

@Ohnonevermind I looked as well when it was mentioned earlier in thread but the only 'source' that came up was that very reputable one called 'Celebitchy'! 😁

Good question. All I can find are the nice write ups about their meeting.

Ohnonevermind · 31/12/2022 18:49

@Aspiringmatriarch

where is your source about Jill Biden was complaining the meeting with Kate was just fluff ?

Ohnonevermind · 31/12/2022 18:51

as @Aspiringmatriarch was the original poster I’m sure she can tell us the reputable link to the the Jill Biden complaining that the meeting was fluff.

CoolShoeshine · 31/12/2022 19:13

How do we know that the figures of public engagements are comparing like with like? The older members of the family might do lots of engagements which are local and short. Wills and Kate might do ones which involve more travelling abroad or attending longer events for all we know.

I watched it at the time and it was embarrassing tbh. It seems to have been scrubbed but here's one clip I could find, apologies as it's from twitter:

twitter.com/MeghanMood/status/1403860307005562885?s=20&t=8d00PP7luAUonq6fKMPAbQ

BTW your rude tone is noted.

Ohnonevermind · 31/12/2022 19:33

So you decided the meeting was fluff and then put those words in your post as coming out of Jill Biden’s mouth ?
and are then using a Meghan fan Twitter account as proof your opinion is valid ?

i don’t think asking for a reputable source is being rude, however I do think you are being defensive
