The royal family

Has Jeremy Clarkson just proved Harry and Meghan right?

On the radio it was discussing how Harry and Meghan said on Netflix that they got very upset in the past when newspapers would write horrible articles and the Royal Family institute would never have their backs and condone the articles in public.
so after the disgusting article that Jeremy wrote albeit his lame apology on Twitter, there has been no news as far as I am aware of the Royal Family saying violence written about Meghan etc is wrong.
so that being said haven’t they done what Meghan and Harry were moaning about that the Royal family never had their backs?

The Royal family never respond to the vitriol some members have endured from the press. Why would they change that?

Because it's the right thing to do? Because it's about time? None of them should have had to put up with abuse but this is off the scale.

And they spoke up very quickly when it was said Kate used Botox and when William was accused of bullying. They respond when it suits them.

And... see my post above. A very very strongly worded statement from William about football players.

Haven't spent a bit too much time on a scurrilous site called celebbitching I consider myself awakened to what is going on. They seem to 'join the dots' in a way that makes sense.

I agree

What so that Clarkson can start a tit for tat with King Charles?

H&M have chosen to leave the palace etc behind them.

Roussette · 20/12/2022 06:21

Clarkson wouldn't. Believe me he wouldn 't.

Anyway, this is interesting article

I agree with every word of it. We have gone back 40 years
"It’s all so obvious, that’s what is galling: an obvious bid to sow division, to spur hatred, to justify misogynistic fantasies under the cover of a splenetic royalism, to dress up hate speech as fair comment. I miss the days when prejudice had to work harder to mask itself, but perhaps they made us complacent. Perhaps this ugly Jeremy Clarkson era will at least be galvanising."

TheaBrandt · 20/12/2022 06:30

I notice Katie Hopkins has been cancelled you never hear from her now in main stream press / tv. Same needs to be done to him. Or is it only right wing offensive women that get cancelled and not men? 🙄 God the blatant misogyny of all of this is so fucking depressing. Will it ever end?

Iwanttoslowdown · 20/12/2022 06:39

And the silence from Harry’s dad is absolutely awful.

Computersaysno123 · 20/12/2022 07:20

So pleased this has happened. Not that he's been a horrible twat and that she's been upset which she obvs will be.... but now finally so many more people can see they WERE TELLING TRUTH (and no I'm not 100% in support of what they've done either but I believe them)

Beachbabe1 · 20/12/2022 07:24

Proves everything they have said about the media to be true! The woman has been hounded, harassed & had racist articles written about her. Harry is trying to protect her from what happened to his mother! Why cant the UK see that!! The way this couple is being treated by most of the UK is absolutely disgusting!!!

Lampzade · 20/12/2022 07:25

Read the Sun opinion piece 23 September 2022 by JC where he lambast MM. Vile misogyny in action
Horrible article

Beachbabe1 · 20/12/2022 07:26

doubleshotcappuccino · 19/12/2022 19:29

The silence is deafening . They might not be working royals but this is the king's son and his wife. Where is the decency is saying nothing. This is exactly what they said happened. Would anyone write this about Kate and keep their day job ...

Very well said!! How hurt must they feel! No support what so ever from their family!

People can see it now

TheaBrandt · 20/12/2022 07:43

Ironic the haters pushed it just that too far - reasonable indifferent majority now see the Sussexes have a point. I feel the RF edifice is crumbling. Hugely damaging for them. Oh dear.

LadyWithLapdog · 20/12/2022 07:44

Vile article. I have complained to the rag that published it.

It’s terrifying people of a certain age in this country would think like JC. Only I know it’s not true, plenty I know- of all ages - are absolutely appalled.

I hope the RF show some spine.

But they ran the same risk when commenting before.

They have commented before, yes.

But they do it sparingly and generally only when something is demonstrably false.

William & Harry both put out statements within weeks of H&Ms relationship being made public condemning press intrusion.

They don't do it weekly, theyd never stop if they had to comment about every nasty story directed at one of them.

This was an utterly horrible piece from Clarkson that has been rightly condemned BY THE PUBLIC. It doesn't need the RF to do it, the public rightly are. Hopefully he's sacked.

Beachbabe1 · 20/12/2022 07:53

Within months of their relationship going public, Harry released a statement asking the press to leave Meghan alone. Did they listen, no! Did the rf stick up for him and her, no!! There are 100% racist tones within the age old monarchy!! H&M were right to escape the vileness of the UK!!

lollipoprainbow · 20/12/2022 07:57

Watching the documentary I can see exactly why they left. Zero support from the royal family who said nothing just like they always do. Funny how quick William was to fire Lady Hussey but couldn't stick up for his sister in law.

FishBowlSwimmer · 20/12/2022 08:04

I've said from the start the press is fucking vile, but all press/media are vile all over the world. Clarkson has gone too far, like many others, it's disgusting. There's fair criticism (based on facts, words they themselves have written or spoken, actions they have taken) and then there's unfair criticism (or made up hate inciting bollox, in this case). Clarkson has done himself, the media or the UKs reputation nothing but harm with his stupidity.

I no longer buy the Guardian due to their nonsense views on who does and doesn’t have a vagina - but that article is spot on.

Clarkson has well and truly identified himself as a wanker to more people than ever before. No one should be employing him imo.

lollipoprainbow · 20/12/2022 08:30

For the palace not to condemn what has been said is one thing but for Camilla to then attend a lunch that he is also attending is pretty bad form. What next an invitation to Christmas at sandringham ??

EdieLedwell · 20/12/2022 08:33

Harry and Meghan are absolutely vindicated in what they have been saying.

William's instant condemnation of the racism against England footballers, versus his silence on the Clarkson article has already been mentioned in the Press.

Obviously my view of Clarkson and the gutter press are clear

you do realise the column was printed after this lunch event?

SantaStoleMyPies · 20/12/2022 08:46

Quite apart from the (considerable) moral questionability of the Palace not saying anyway, I think they are being spectacularly stupid.

A simple, clear statement off the back of any public attack of M&H of this nature, would give them far better PR and avoid all the questioning of them.

I don't understand why they are not doing this as a matter of course. It's doesn't even need to be that specific to be effective, I don't think. Something along the lines of condemning all public attacks of this nature and not condoning the talk of violence when critising other people and wishing H&M well. Job done.

From a strategic POV they should just keep batting the ball away like this. As the Queen did with her 'recollections may vary but they will always be much loved members of the family'. That they are not, suggests a bit of a blind spot to me.

Roussette · 20/12/2022 08:48

They don't even have to mention Harry or Meghan! They can criticise hate speech and public attacks.
William was straight on it with the football team, he tweeted how appalled he was and wrote a very very strongly worded statement.

paintitallover · 20/12/2022 08:50

I like this, from Zoe Williams article:

it doesn’t matter if, put on the spot, people struggle to describe what “woke” actually means. All that matters is that a hate figure has been created, a shortcut, a shibboleth, a means by which bigots can identify one another and give voice to their prejudice, without fear of censure.

Novella4 · 20/12/2022 08:52

@MrsFinkelstein
Nonsense

This is not hate speak by a random journalist
Camilla either invited Clarkson or approved the list . Does anyone seriously believe the list of attendees isn't checked thoroughly beforehand ?

She's the bloody 'queen' - if you believe that nonsense - and nothing is 'private '
She was there laughing it up.
He published a few days later.
She's implicated and needs to speak out .
She even has re habilitated her image by promoting charities that protect women !
The hypocrisy.
If I was working for one of those charities I'd be having second thoughts about her involvement .
