this is really puzzling me. Much seems to be made about H&M livcing in NC and how small it was - Oprah was shocked etc etc. but W&K lived there when they first got together and even after George was born so it’s not like H&M are being singled out / treated badly or anything?! It just seems to be a cute little starter home (well starter in royal terms anyway) and a nice thing.

Am I missing something as to why it keeps being mentioned in a negative fashion?

Designed by Sir Christopher Wren, no less!
Possibly Oprah just assumed that people with "status" will live in giant McMansions - let's call that a cultural difference.
It sounds like a perfect place for a couple on their own, plus in a secure & private space within the KP compound, & rent-free to boot.
The ingratitude, when most of us would love to live there....

ThighMistress · 15/12/2022 17:29

On another thread a poster linked to a photo in homes&gardens of the cottage’s interior after m&h’s renovations.

Netflix have struck comedy gold.

KittyMcKitty · 15/12/2022 17:30

Exactly it was secure and private and they could live a great life away from the paps etc. When so much was being made of how they were treated differently from W&K this was exactly the same as W&K equal footing - and I’m sure the ceilings would have been the same height when W was there!

Why is this being presented as a perceived slight / an injustice/ an example of them being seen as lesser - this is something which proved their equal status surely?

Its also a little out of touch with the real world is it not

funnystuff123 · 15/12/2022 17:31

photos of Nottingham cottage?

HelloBunny · 15/12/2022 17:33

I deffo think Meghan was like,

Duchess? Cottage?

Freakin’ Princess & Palace, please!

She’ll dump him for a billionaire.

Fladdermus · 15/12/2022 17:34

I learnt on another thread that they asked the Queen for Windsor Castle.

I learnt on another thread that they asked the Queen for Windsor Castle.

If it was on a thread, then it must be true.Xmas Hmm

sweatyannie · 15/12/2022 17:39

I think they've really lost the plot.

Definitely think that MM expected ballrooms and chandeliers.

Complete knobs.

ThighMistress · 15/12/2022 17:39

Yep, a courtier spilled the beans on how they wanted Windsor Castle. The cheek of the pair!

LizzieSiddal · 15/12/2022 17:46

They did not ask for Windsor Castle! They asked for apartments in it. There’s so much shit and exaggeration on these threads. I’m bringing to believe M&H.

Fladdermus · 15/12/2022 17:47

Ok, I stand corrected. They didn't want to live in Windsor Castle, they wanted to live in Windsor Castle. Got it.

I have no knowledge about Windsor Castle - as I said in my OP I’m just confused about the narrative being sold about Nott Cott. It’s being presented as an injustice when it isn’t.

I think H&M have much to be hurt about and I think there were some very unfair racist articles about her but lying about stuff like NC and things just devalues their story surely?

The absolute mental gymnastics of these two to portray themselves as victims.

Let me refresh your memory - as soon as they were engaged, the Queen booted out her cousin (who no longer had a country pile to return to) and started renovations of Apartment 2 at KP for those ingrates.

They then decided they prefer Windsor (I bet expecting an apartment at WC), and were given Frogmore after extensive renovations (and eviction of 5 senior staff).

Nothing was ever good enough for entitled Megs.

7Worfs · 15/12/2022 17:56

Also the current occupant of Nottingham Cottage is Eugenie with her husband and son. Good enough for an actual princess, but not Markle, lol.

Onesonten · 15/12/2022 17:59

Staggeringly ungrateful.

Also why did Harry say the people who lived at Nottingham Cottage before him must have been small? So weird when he knows William and Kate lived there before him (and neither of them are short).

AdelaideRo · 15/12/2022 18:00

It's bonkers. 2 bed houses in that part of london go for 2-3 million pounds.

I'd be bloody grateful a 2 bed cottage there and so would many many londoners.

PurBal · 15/12/2022 18:02

It’s a free, 1300sqft property. That’s bigger than my 3 bed semi (and some 4 beds tbh). Just entitled and out of touch tbh.

Augend23 · 15/12/2022 18:02

So Nottingham cottage looks extremely cute but when you look up the square footage it's 1200 square feet. So it's less than twice the size of my (very small Victorian terraced) house. If I were buying a new house I would easily want one with twice the square footage just for me.

The other side to that is I don't have access to the rest of KP for putting up guests/outsourcing complex catering/storing anything I can't fit into the house. If I had that then it would be much easier to manage with a small house.

But I can see why it would feel pretty small, especially if you've previously been well off in the US/Canada where house sizes are just much bigger.

MollyWarlockLordVoldemort · 15/12/2022 18:04

Tone deaf the pair of them.

Don't forget use of the indoor swimming pool and gym complex, private stables, and extensive grounds etc. etc.

LadyHarmby · 15/12/2022 18:10

I didn’t think they were particularly critical of it, they were just commenting that it’s small and not the sort of place people
would think they would live. It was more of a ‘we’re not that privileged, we lived in a little cottage’ sort of vibe.

beaucorbeau · 15/12/2022 18:11

Little look at Zoopla suggests the rent would be 7-10k a month at least, although ofc hard to judge given the uniqueness of the property. The poor things!
