this is really puzzling me. Much seems to be made about H&M livcing in NC and how small it was - Oprah was shocked etc etc. but W&K lived there when they first got together and even after George was born so it’s not like H&M are being singled out / treated badly or anything?! It just seems to be a cute little starter home (well starter in royal terms anyway) and a nice thing.

Am I missing something as to why it keeps being mentioned in a negative fashion?

@LadyHarmby i never heard we are lucky and priviledged just its was small etc etc but lets be honest the home may of been small but they would of had access to other things
Just need to remember what others do not have

Isn't it where Marion Crawford lived when she left royal service?

yes it was used for servants

LittleBearPad · 15/12/2022 19:11

antelopevalley · 15/12/2022 19:03

yes it was used for servants

And then Prince William and now Princess Eugenie.

ThighMistress · 15/12/2022 19:11

Extraordinary how Fans excuse the cottage business. “For servants” indeed! Do you know how much a mews house is round that way? They have oligarch price tags!

Plus what is this sniffy “servants” thing? Are we in Downton Abbey?

antelopevalley · 15/12/2022 19:03

Kate and William lived there with Prince George, the interior was designed by Kelly Hoppen, stop trying to twist it that Harry and his then girlfriend were shoved into the servants quarters.

ajandjjmum · 15/12/2022 19:18

It was actually Harry's bachelor pad when Will and Kate moved out - so for around 5 years?

ShamedBySiri · 15/12/2022 19:31

Wait, what, when did that happen?
Eugenie, Jack and baby have moved out of Frogmore Cottage and into Nott Cott.

It wasn't working out living in H&M's place was it?

Also didn't either Eugenie or Beatrice live there for a while before marriage? It's the royal starter home/Bachelor pad. So pretty with the climbing roses.

H&M's description of their time there reeks of ingratitude. No doubt M thought they should have somewhere palatial like Edward and Sophie's mansion which I read somewhere is the biggest of all the houses of the Queen's children. No idea why they need somewhere so enormous. They could have budged up and offered a wing to H&M not that they would have been happy about it.

I think HMQ was very crafty offering them Frogmore Cottage - I have no doubt that Meghan hated having an address that included the word Cottage. A bit like the family in Sense and Sensibility, downsizing to a Cottage.

Yes, but it didn’t shrink while Harry was living in it on his own. It was big and grand enough for the Cambridges to live in with George. So what is your point?

antelopevalley · 15/12/2022 19:40

@smil It was not William and Kates main residence. They had a large apartment in London. Is it 40 rooms their apartment has? This was a weekend place.

antelopevalley · 15/12/2022 19:42

Neither Eugenie or Beatrice lived in Nottingham Cottage before marriage.

YesNoYesNoYesNoYesMaybe · 15/12/2022 19:43

"W&K lived there when they first got together and even after George was born"

Nope, William and Kate lived in a cottage on Anglesey in North Wales when they were first married and for the first year of George's life.

YesNoYesNoYesNoYesMaybe · 15/12/2022 19:44

It appears I'm mistaken, apologies if i am!

Wrong again, check your facts, after living in Nottingham Cottage with Prince George, they then moved to Apartment 1a. NC was their London base, their other home was in Anglesey.

antelopevalley · 15/12/2022 19:45

Honestly, so much rubbish written here. Nottingham Cottage was a place traditionally sued for various servants.
Argue whether it is fine or not, but at least get the basic facts right.

antelopevalley · 15/12/2022 19:48

Upon her retirement in 1948, the house was given for life to Marion Crawford, the former governess of Princesses Elizabeth and Margaret. In gratitude for Crawford's service, Queen Mary, the princesses' grandmother, decorated the house with Victorian furniture and prints of flowers for her. Crawford left the cottage in 1950 in the aftermath of her selling stories about the royal family to newspapers, which was revealed publicly by The Sunday Express editor John Gordon in an attempt to pressure her to provide more stories and articles to him.[4]
The home was subsequently lent to Miles Hunt-Davis, private secretary of the Duke of Edinburgh and his wife Anita.[9] Robert Fellowes, private secretary to Elizabeth II, and his wife Lady Jane Fellowes, the sister of Diana, Princess of Wales, also occupied the cottage.[3]
Prince William, Duke of Cambridge, and Catherine, Duchess of Cambridge used Nottingham Cottage as their London residence after their marriage from 2011 to 2013, splitting their time between the cottage and their home on the Bodorgan Estate in Wales.[10] The cottage was redecorated for the couple by interior designer Kelly Hoppen.[10] The Duke and Duchess lived there with their infant son Prince George after his birth, before moving in October 2013 to Apartment 1A in Kensington Palace.[3]
Prince Harry moved into Nottingham Cottage from Clarence House following his brother's departure, with the house referred to as his "bachelor pad" after leaving the army.[3][11][12][13] Harry proposed to Meghan Markle whilst roasting a chicken in the home; they subsequently resided together in the cottage following their engagement.[3][14] In April 2019, the couple moved to Frogmore Cottage before the birth of their first child.[

The basic facts are that in recent times it is where BOTH of Charles’ sons lived

So what if it was? It was then home for William, Kate and George and then home for Harry who shared it with his then girlfriend Meghan when she visited the UK.

But what you have posted disproves your previous post that the Cambridge used Nottingham Cottage a s a weekend place and had a bigger apartment elsewhere. It clearly states that they loved therebefore they moved in to apartment 1a 🤷‍♀️

It’s only a few metres from Kensington Palace. Lol at weekend place!

LadyVictoriaSponge · 15/12/2022 19:54

@antelopevalley you have just confirmed what everyone was telling you!!

antelopevalley · 15/12/2022 19:57

I made a mistake and posted above. It was their London place when they were living in Wales. Wales was there main home.

antelopevalley · 15/12/2022 19:58

@smilesy My point is that Nottingham Cottage was never William and Kate's main residence.

Georgeskitchen · 15/12/2022 20:02

It was my understanding that Eugenie and her family moved in to Frogmore cottage when H&M moved to the states but when H&M came over last year they got kicked out.
Frogmore Cottage is the UK residence of the Sussex Estate, well it was until a few days ago 😉😉

Georgeskitchen · 15/12/2022 20:03

*Sussex family not estate 😆

LivelyBlake · 15/12/2022 20:04

Adelaide Cottage, the Wales' s current home, has also been used to house staff. Peter Townsend lived there.
