this is really puzzling me. Much seems to be made about H&M livcing in NC and how small it was - Oprah was shocked etc etc. but W&K lived there when they first got together and even after George was born so it’s not like H&M are being singled out / treated badly or anything?! It just seems to be a cute little starter home (well starter in royal terms anyway) and a nice thing.

Am I missing something as to why it keeps being mentioned in a negative fashion?

@smilesy My point is that Nottingham Cottage was never William and Kate's main residence.

It was still the home they lived in whilst in London. I really don’t understand what point you are trying to prove here.

@smilesy My point is that Nottingham Cottage was never William and Kate's main residence.

But it was still big enough for them!

Plus George as well!

Frog Cott housed Grand Duchess Xenia, daughter and sister of Tsars, for quite a few years.

Fluffnotscruffy · 15/12/2022 20:25

I must live in an alternative universe, I took what they said as them stating they lived in a small cottage and not in a palace like some may have thought. They didn’t diss it or come across as saying they deserved better. They expressed how happy they were gardening and doing DIY. I’m not British have no interest in the Royal Family and slightly baffled with the negative narrative.

You either believe them or you believe the tabloids or believe none of it at all, but why all the hate ?

Ted27 · 15/12/2022 20:33

@Fluffnotscruffy

I think I live in your universe

I don't understand why people can't see the blatant racism

ShamedBySiri · 15/12/2022 20:37

Ah. My mistake. Eugenie and Jack lived at Ivy Cottage not Nott Cottage !

healthadvice123 · 15/12/2022 20:37

@Ted27 where is the racism ? Are people not allowed to say anything negative or interpret something how they see it without being called racist

Roussette · 15/12/2022 20:38

ThighMistress · 15/12/2022 17:29

On another thread a poster linked to a photo in homes&gardens of the cottage’s interior after m&h’s renovations.

Netflix have struck comedy gold.

And that photo was proved to be a stock photo and not a photo of M&H's renovations

healthadvice123 · 15/12/2022 20:40

@antelopevalley M & H also moved from their soon after marrIage to a bigger place
They wasn't treated differently by being housed there thats the point people are saying
But even if they were the fact is william is the future king , bit like princess margaret didn't live the same life as the Queen and how Anne, Edward etc live slightly different to Charles.

Ted27 · 15/12/2022 20:42

@healthadvice123

I think Harry himself summed it up very well
If you can't see it, I can't help you

ArnoldBee · 15/12/2022 20:44

What people forget is that KP and its grounds are basically council housing for Royals which is why it was built. I recall Apartment 1 had Building work done on it and it was expected the Sussexes would move in there and folks were surprised when they moved to Frogmore.

healthadvice123 · 15/12/2022 20:49

@Ted27 I was talking about this thread
Whilst there was racism behind im sure many of the comments online etc
Lets not pretend that the other RF have also had some rather nasty stories as well
And on posts now anyone saying anything negative pr disagreeing some are calling racist , thats not right either
And Harry should know what racist is pretty well

DuchessOfPort · 15/12/2022 20:53

It’s another culture clash. An American points out that another American can’t believe how small the house is.

the thing is, your average aristo in the UK is quite happy with what is essentially a tied cottage. Lots of landed families plonk sons into a cottage on the estate for free. Harry seemed quite happy with it as a bachelor pad. Other royals have been happy with it. Diana lived in a flat share in Earls Court. Her own sister lived in Nott Cott…

however, it is understandable that an American would think she would get more than a 2 up 2 down if she was marrying a Prince.

she genuinely doesn’t understand. She wouldn’t get why the Queen turned lights off all the time and had a three bar fire at Balmoral.

She would have gone to Sandringham and wondered why Prince Charles mends his 30 year old suits and shoes and Princess Anne wears clothes 40 years old on public and private occasions. She’s a Princess! Shouldn’t she act like one? She doesn’t even have police protection in the supermarket for God’s sake and she’s the Monarch’s own daughter.

it was just never going to work. There’s nothing wrong with that. It was just never never going to work.

7Worfs · 15/12/2022 17:56

Also the current occupant of Nottingham Cottage is Eugenie with her husband and son. Good enough for an actual princess, but not Markle, lol.

You are confusing Nottingham Cottage with Frogmore, Petal

healthadvice123 · 15/12/2022 21:03

@pocketvenuss think she lives at another cottage
God knows how many cottages their are

Actually there are many reports that she’s now using Nott Cott (although some saying Ivy Cott) …

so no need to be rude really

OP posts:
antelopevalley · 15/12/2022 21:33

Can you provide links? All I have seen say Ivy Cottage.

antelopevalley · 15/12/2022 21:36

@DuchessOfPort Not true. The rest live in large houses. Harry was given it as a bachelor pad yes. I am not sure how much time he actually spent there though. Charles has multiple properties, as does William, and Andrew has a massive property. They all spend a fortune with helicopter flights and private jets. They are not frugal.

William and Kate claimed Apartment 1 and had masses of work done in it. It is massive.

It's the height of entitlement and we are supposed to think they were hard done by. The quicker we slim down the royals, the better

antelopevalley · 15/12/2022 21:42

@KittyMcKitty Thanks, I did not know all of that. It says they were at Frogmore and moved into Nottingham Cottage because of drama with the Cambridges and now have moved to a property in Portugal. It sounds like they were not at Nottingham Cottage for long.

aSofaNearYou · 15/12/2022 18:42

I didn't get that impression at all, I got the impression they were trying to present themselves as living a humble life (that they liked) rather than the grand one people might have assumed. I didn't get the impression they were saying it was a slight.

Living a humble life in a slice of prime real estate, rent free in one of the most expensive cities in the world - oh purlease.

Thefriendlyone · 15/12/2022 21:47

I don’t get why they were whinging , it’s a 1324 sq foot property for two of them, and the interior was done by Kelly Hoppen, as well as the fact harry saying he didn’t know who lived there before, another lie, it was his brother, his wife and George.
