Last thread has filled up so I thought I'd create another to chat trailers and teasers while we hang about waiting for better more truth bombs to drop in the main event.

I wouldn't expect you lie about anything. My experience has been different from yours, that's all. I don't think either of us need to apologise to the other. (Even if yours did lack a bit of sincerity. 😉 😁)

I didn't realise the stuff about UNICEF and his manager was your personal experience, I thought you'd probably read it somewhere and you know how stories can get twisted. I do think if it is our experience we can refer to it with more confidence.

Ohnonevermind · 17/12/2022 20:00

I saw another thread saying H&M now want a sandringham summit and an apology (according to the times)

Will Netflix be filming said event too i wonder. Maybe Meghan can ask her dear friend Andy Cohen to mediate 🤣 I can’t believe it’s true though, if it is I’m cringing for them. They really just need to fuck off now

CathyorClaire · 17/12/2022 20:06

But they have a book to sell, Ohno

And judging by the first surely entirely unintentional leak coincidentally tying in with the end of the NF dump they've saved the salacious bits for it.

OK. But the unicef story didn't get twisted. It was written in black and white in emails that were hacked and published. UNICEF confirmed it. So we know those exchanges were true.

Ohnonevermind · 17/12/2022 20:19

@ancientgran

I read all the leaked e-mails too. They were pretty horrible, calling people all kinds and bitching about charity work. But for some reason it doesn’t seem to have stuck. His wife seems to get all the stick.

I don’t understand why they cannot be grateful for what they actually have. They clearly love each other, have 2 beautiful children & live in California. Enjoy what you have.

They have also fallen out with both families. Is the problem the families or you?

And families argue, siblings argue. There is no news in that but don’t complain to all & sundry in public about. It cannot be doing any of the families mental health any good.

I agree with you.
They should count their blessings.

The Times. OK Hmm

Telling someone to fuck off is pathetic, they must've really got to you to stoop that low

Ohnonevermind · 17/12/2022 20:30

Not really @Roussette i’m just beyond bored of them now and their pompous self importance, I’m so bored I’m crying a tear from my left eye.

I remember when all that Rebecca Loos stuff came out, peoole blamed Victoria, because she preferred to stay with the children in the UK because if school, etc.
And I dont remember Beckham ever standing up for her and telling peoole to stop it.
He can come across as such a nice guy but I'll never forget him, a multimillionaire, trying to rip a children's charity off.

oakleaffy · 17/12/2022 20:43

Allegedly, There is going to be some sort of Netflix programme featuring the Markles, the Siblings and father-
They want to tell their side of story.
Unlike the Royals, the Markles can speak out.

If this comes to pass, it will be interesting to hear what the Markles have to say.
Meghan was close to her dad - allegedly- before she got with “ Aitch”, the basic dumping of her dad is what turned many people off her, when they previously had been “ Close”

Another one who uses his family guy image while doing whatever suits him.

Catlady2021 · 17/12/2022 21:13

I’ve only seen a few episodes so far.

One thing that Harry said though didn’t make sense. Something like when he got with Meghan, he was naive and didn’t realise how intrusive the media would be with them.

Yet Harry has said many times before how fed up he is with the press. He grew up in front of cameras. He blames the media for his mums death. He was in the media with previous girlfriends, didn’t he blame the media for the break up of past relationships?

So Harry knew perfectly well what would happen if he entered a relationship with someone.

I'm lost @Aspiringmatriarch. Does that refer to people in general or someone specific?

Lost? Ok...

There are absolutely loads of men it applies to.

Then, yes, indeed. Cheating a charity is the pits but letting Victoria take all that crap.... Why wouldn't he stand up for his own wife instead of leaving her struggling in case it affected his image or caused him embarrassment? What a pig.

I’ve just finished watching it and fwiw my impressions were:

** there are massive cultural clashes going on here (talk about two countries divided by a common language) and we should never under-estimate the innate differences between Brits and Americans

** the bullying of MM by the British tabloids and other so called news and media outlets has been vile and extreme

** MM has suffered genuine racism

** I understand better now why they left

** Harry needs to get a proper job and once the dc are older, so does MM (too many shots of Harry lolling about in bare feet)

** while the press intrusion they suffered was indeed hideous, some things they had to say about the Covid period were tone deaf as were the comments about Nottingham Cottage (I wouldn’t say no to a two bedroom cottage in central
London with manicured grounds thank you very much)

** I think we all need to examine the things we read in the newspapers a bit more critically and also look beyond the initial impression we gain of people when it’s been largely informed by those newspapers

** they over-egged the point about themselves being more popular than K and W as a reason why they were pushed out/briefed against but they could have been a great asset to the RF

** I do believe they were briefed against

** I do think there is a Faustian pact between the press and the RF

** also that the RF circle to protect the institution above all else, no matter who they hurt in the process

** there was something a bit strange about the bits involving Ashley the niece

** the bits when they were meditating were cringey

** Thomas Markle and the Markle family behaved dreadfully

** overall I think H and M made some valid points and H came across as more articulate than I expected but the series left me with quite a few questions

** Harry has truly burned his boats so I hope they will be very happy together

meinteresamucho · 18/12/2022 05:46

I have a different takeaway entirely. Watching this puff piece has made me realise how badly we need the newspapers and how badly we actually need to be reading them. So many people are just taking what these two say at face value when, if you've been following the story in the papers, you'll know much of what they've claimed is absolutely false. They have misrepresented their experience using false footage and headlines to support their version of events (and this can be easily verified - the truth of much of what appears in the press can be checked quite easily). If you apply robust critical thinking skills when reading the newspapers you can actually learn an awful lot and avoid being taken in by a puff piece like this. As just one example, one of the newspaper headlines used in their "documentary" used the words ANGELS AND DEMONS and given the context of what was being discussed in the background, you're obviously lead to think that Meghan is being cast as some sort of devil next to the perfect royal family. And yet it's a headline about the Hillsbourgh disaster. Everything they put out is filled with this sort of inaccuracy and desire to mislead. The papers are far more reliable in my own experience.

Roussette · 18/12/2022 06:03

@OneforBertie762 Great points you've made

Roussette · 18/12/2022 06:04

Impossible with the 27 articles on any one day in the DM. It's bombardment of unpleasantness and vitriolic dragging down of a woman.

meinteresamucho · 18/12/2022 06:12

It's a response to six hours of content they have put out themselves - of course that's going to generate a significant response. And critical thinking is always possible.

As Helen Lewis pointed out in the Atlantic, "Ken Burns needed just three times as long to get through the entire Vietnam war."

I would agree with most of this.

I also was left with questions about the niece.
It appears she was dropped by MM when she met PH - not sure at what point.

And seemingly and understandably she was hurt to be excluded from the wedding.

From the doc she talks about reuniting and being back in MM life - so it seems she has been excluded / not in contact for at least 4-5 years. I wonder who instigated this and I am suspicious that she has only been brought back into the fold so that she can be used to tell the story of Samantha Markle.

Also can’t remember if Ashley is in contact with her grandad - Tom Markle?

I was also intrigued by the group of MM friends who ostensibly took it upon themselves to get together and brief a positive news story to a US publication without MM knowledge - there is no way that MM didn’t approve this as she claims.

I wonder what you'd get if you put all the negative stories together? Probably something the length of the entire Western canon!
