Are Netflix secretly playing Harry and Meghan?

H&M think they are dictating the Netflix narrative, but I wonder if Netflix are actually playing a longer game? This was billed as their story, but they are so tone deaf and are exposing themselves to ridicule with their ham fisted attempts to justify their behaviour. It's so full of ridiculous unsubstantiated statements and generalisations with no evidence to back it up. It's using stock photographs of photographers that have nothing to do with them. Why not show real photographers? A ridiculous car chase with a lone photographer on a moped provoking panic and faux fear in the couple is laughable. And as for Harry's face as Meghan takes the piss out of the queen? This was definitely seen by the editors who chose to leave it in.

Will Netflix get a double helping from this series with the candy-floss fluff that's the first airing, with a second being the dissection of this sad and deluded pair?

I find H quite comfortable in front of the camera and comes across as being quite natural and genuine. I feel M is 'acting' it's as though she doesn't know how to be 'natural' and herself in front of the camera. Maybe it's because she's always acted in front of a camera. I'd like to see who she is, being natural and herself. I don't feel we've seen this yet

I thought the same. And I thought it was quite telling when she described how the RF were quite stiff and formal in public and in private - they didn't let their guard down and relax when they got inside and shut the door. She didn't seem able to comprehend that they are not acting - they are just real people being themselves.

Britain is disgracefully racist. Meghan has been subjected to a long-winded, state-sanctioned campaign of vile abuse simply because of her colour. It really is that simple. Until you are a woman of colour marrying into the firm, you cannot possibly know how toxic it is. Her life is literally at risk because of her colour.

And so they went to America, well known for its progressive stance on racism, equal rights laws and exceptionally tight gun control laws which means they’re completely safe from death threats.

I actually warmed to them and am "on their side".

His mum was killed at the hands of he paparazzi.

He's got his wife away to stop that happening to her.

He's doing what any decent man should do!

When they announced they were stepping back from the royal family and explained why, I could understand why they were doing this, and totally agreed with them, but all they have done now (IMO) is made things worse with this documentary, book deals, interviews, I just don’t see where they are coming from, and I’m now starting to think who is orchestrating all this, is it him or her?
I know they will have PR but at the end of the day, they both have the right to either keep quiet and get on with their lives or do what they’re doing which will increase publicity, revenue and a frenzied media attention on them.

Meghan has been subjected to a long-winded, state-sanctioned campaign of vile abuse simply because of her colour.

then why did other royal wife’s complain of the same terrible treatment, Diana suffered at the hands of the press, so did Kate along with others. For far longer than Meghan, it’s not right and should be stopped. It shouldn’t have happened to Meghan either and is abhorrent by are evil media

to suggest that it’s just due to the colour of her skin is not correct if it’s also happened to others

keeprunning55 · 11/12/2022 08:34

Are the paps that she talks about British over in Canada & New York? If so, they haven’t really escaped their troubles if they’re being followed over there.
The curtesy was the hardest part to watch. She was making fun of herself, not knowing what to do, but Harry’s face said it all. Off that it wasn’t cut out.

H.boohoo:
Did you watch it because they didn't salt the family. They went for the press and it's about time someone did.
.................
I wholeheartedly agree with that! Good for Meghan and Harry, they have done nothing wrong.

Of course the press are now baying for their blood but that won't bother them. They can now get on with their lives comfortably.

But they ARENT getting on with their lives, thats the entire point! They are telling the same victim story over and over again and making money out of it. Constantly contradicting what they say their aim is. I would love to see them move on and do something positive.... but that will never happen. You just watch.

SirChenjins · 11/12/2022 08:36

What was his facial expression? I haven’t watched it, I rely on my DD and MN to bring me up to speed!

lemmein · 11/12/2022 08:37

I really don't think Harry slags of the family at all - he criticises the institution, he has anger towards 'the men in grey coats' and despises the media, but his family? I don't see it. If he wanted to he could probably destroy the whole of the RF - he's in a unique position of knowing what goes on behind those closed doors, he's been privy to all those conversations for most of his adult life. I've no doubt what he has said has been very restrained if you consider the back catalogue of material he could use, if he chose to.

His frustration towards his family seems to come from them putting duty before their family relationships. I imagine to him it probably feels similar to those who lose their loved ones to a cult!

It’s aimed at an American audience and from what I can see on social media they are lapping it up.

I spend time on a mainly American forum and the vast majority of posters on there dislike them and their behaviour

Rainbowlights · 11/12/2022 08:40

lifeinthehills · 10/12/2022 21:19

That's how I interpreted that too. She was making fun of herself, no-one else.

This is what I thought too. It never crossed my mind she was mocking the queen.

I suppose it depends on which sites you frequent. If you spend time on an American equivalent of MN your statement is probably true. Black Americans on Twitter seem to largely support them though and hate the RF!

Yes, but the one-drop rule played out in the UK more than it did for Meghan in America under colorism. Meghan's mum openly experienced racism in America, which Meghan never did. Why can't people understand that racisim plays out in different ways? Meghan passed the American paper bag test. This is why her mother said she worned her with what was coming and to prepare herself. But if you have never experienced something, it's hard to comprehend the magnitude of what will be thrown at you.

ItchyLips · 11/12/2022 08:44

I like them as a couple. Harry is incredibly charming and comes across as a genuinely nice person. Meghan is warm, gracious, intelligent and funny. Yes, they are quite self obsessed and navel gazing but one of them is a Hollywood TV star and the other an actual Prince! They were never going to be humble or down to earth. I was also struck by how stunning Meghan is, I would kill for her hair!

I think the true star of the show is Megan's mum. Such a strong and beautiful woman.

Did you watch the programme? There was no criticism of Andrew - in fact his children were shown as their closest friends.

Do you realise the only people currently in jail or who have paid a settlement related to Epstein are British even though the majority of the people who flew on his plane, visited his house, went to the island and abused the women and girls were high-level US? Show me your outrage for that cover-up. If the US actually cared about Epstein's abuses they'd be marching in the streets for the abusers to be jailed instead of ignoring the fact no-one from the US is in jail. There would be exposes and documentaries about it. For every one mention of Andrew on here there would be hundreds of mentions of the other names. Ditto with the number of articles. Yet .... crickets. We see your whataboutery and racism.

Do you know the history of US land grabs, segregation, racism, the one drop rule, overseas expansionism and interference through fake contracts and wars? Then your attempt to paint the UK as the most racist country seems uneducated.

It seems every other country in the world has a better grasp of US history, policy and economics than pro-US/anti-UK social media posters.

Netflix want to make as much money as possible from this project. That is all. So yes, they'll do whatever they can to make it and the coverage of it appeal to both H&M's adoring fanbase and to the many millions who can't stand the sight of them. They illicit extreme reactions people, Netflix knows that, and those kind of extreme feelings can be monetised. Kerching!

They have such a beautiful home, Montecito is so lovely

Perhaps there's a point though where you can't criticise the one without criticising the other?

It's an institution that his Gps devoted decades of their lives to, that his dad now heads & his brother is in line to.

He criticises something his father cares about whilst taking millions from him & moaning when that stops (after said agreed period of time?)

Can't see that there's many parents wouldn't be hurt by that.

You mean her mother warned her about entering the class ridden RF and marrying a man whose racist language and Nazi escapades were well documented, but as a supposedly intelligent woman in her thirties with plenty of connections in the UK she was unable to do her homework on google or speak to those people and make an educated decision to run for the hills? Or perhaps she saw an opportunity to rise to the top of the world’s media stage and make millions in the process and was prepared to turn a blind eye to it until she had got into position.

OliverBabish · 11/12/2022 08:52

I enjoyed it, I thought it was tastefully done.

Though I often find that on these threads, you aren’t allowed to voice support for H&M in anyway without (as I saw earlier in the thread) being patronised and called “hon”.

I see a lot of talk about H&M being master manipulators. I take that and raise you the entire operation built around the Royal family to ensure it’s survival.

No, she had never experienced what it meant to be black. It's there in the documentary. She never understood it. Both Meghan and her mum talk about it. In her acting and Hollywood, no one ever questioned her whiteness. She also spoke about this in the second episode of archetype with Mariah Carey.

A British Prince was good friends with Jeffrey Epstein, was accused of having sex with an underage woman, & paid his accuser 16 million dollars with money from his disgusting enabling mother

yikes! At least her other son is a lovely bloke who didn’t leave his ex wife in fear for her life or have Britain’s worst ever paedophile as a confidant or anything like that.

Is it just me or is the series wildly boring?! Ep 2 or 3 has all these people begging Meg up and telling her life story. Yawn.

It's surprisingly tedious! I won't watch last episode 1. They are utterly uncharismatic.

Who keeps a video diary?

Who makes a TV show about themselves after saying they want a private life.

When did they say they wanted a private life?

Please show me the statement they made where they said that.
