Are Netflix secretly playing Harry and Meghan?

H&M think they are dictating the Netflix narrative, but I wonder if Netflix are actually playing a longer game? This was billed as their story, but they are so tone deaf and are exposing themselves to ridicule with their ham fisted attempts to justify their behaviour. It's so full of ridiculous unsubstantiated statements and generalisations with no evidence to back it up. It's using stock photographs of photographers that have nothing to do with them. Why not show real photographers? A ridiculous car chase with a lone photographer on a moped provoking panic and faux fear in the couple is laughable. And as for Harry's face as Meghan takes the piss out of the queen? This was definitely seen by the editors who chose to leave it in.

Will Netflix get a double helping from this series with the candy-floss fluff that's the first airing, with a second being the dissection of this sad and deluded pair?

If security really was the key concern, then they could easily have achieved a very comfortable, wealthy life - out of the public eye - and massively reduced their risk.

I think this is the issue. They are in the same predicament Diana was in. Neither of them are in a 'current job'. Yes, Harry was in the army for 10 years, Meghan was a cable actress. But both have left their jobs and only have their names for commercial work. Which makes them dependent on the media and press like Diana.

So they are following in Diana footsteps, who used the media to both promote her charity work, and also to get revenge on the RF.

If you compare the press Meghan gets opposed to Beatrice and Eugenie's husbands (been male makes a huge difference) you hardly hear anything from them but they are successful business men in their own right and just keep a low profile. Neither of them have any tax payer funded security.

It would not surprise me if their security were 1m a year or month

Seems a bit much to protect them from a man on a moped...

The irony is, they'd have been safer and better able to serve, by staying in the Royal family and becoming obscure charitable workers living in the back of Kensington Palace.

Didn't want that though did they? Wanted fame and fortune they make and keep for themselves.

Tbf though B & E don't get that much coverage.

Whoever Harry married was bound to I think.

Even Chelsy & Cressida still get coverage!

darkwinterdays · 12/12/2022 19:08

Just get the feeling they haven't fully thought this through and are now trying to dig themselves out of a tight spot. Like I said, they need the press/media but on their terms. 😏

Since the Levison Report the free for all papp style photographers have not been allowed to have their photos printed in british newspapers, and I don't believe any clandestine photographs have been printed of H&M or their children???

The couple never showed any such photos on this documentary. The one from a balcony of them with Archie walking away was taken by an official royal photographer with permission to take those photos, yet they show it as though it was papped.

Princess Diana was hounded by the press, as was Kate but since Levison the photos have been far less intrusive.

The pizza moped incident(?) was in America anyway. The stalking in Canada, was er...in Canada. So what did happen in the UK? Certainly not the Harry Potter/Katie Price/donald Trump photos shown on the documentary.

Meghan is not in the same ball park as Diana however much she portrays this.

Yep. As a member of the public I think M&H think that if they beat us about the head long enough with 'their story' we will actually believe it.

Doria has played a blinder, maintaining a dignified silence. Much like the Queen, in fact. I wonder if she ever advised Meghan to do the same.

True, but the media has changed their tune on these two. They (and their mother) got absolutely slaughtered for their dress sense, appearance etc in the past, got papped leaving nightclubs etc but they toned it all down and did not feed the media. Now it is all very complimentary.

Harry was always more of high profile but it was handled so badly by him, MM and the RF. They needed to smarter about playing the game.

And it is not just the RF who have to deal with this. Celebrities, sportspeople all have to deal with the press. But some celebrities are always in the spotlight, others you hardly hear from.

I find this whole argument that they "need" security (and that's obviously what they tout as the reason for all the Netflix deals and so on) a bit ridiculous.

Princess Anne, Prince Edward and Sophie don't have full time security - only while they are on royal engagements. And they are very much in the public eye as full time working royals. And they are as closely related to the monarch - as M&H.

Other grandchildren of the (previous) monarch - eg. Zara, Peter, Eugenie and Beatrice - have no taxpayer funded security whatsoever.

Somehow they all manage to get on and live their lives without a big fuss, and without constant angst that their lives are in incredible danger as a result.

Perhaps M&H do have a level of threat against them, but that will be due in the most part to their ongoing desire for fame and their relentless self promotion. In which case, it's part and parcel of celebrity and you have to fund your own security if that's what you want.

If security really was the key concern, then they could easily have achieved a very comfortable, wealthy life - out of the public eye - and massively reduced their risk.

Yes they do, and people nedd to stop denying this.

Beatrice and Eugenie have been ripped apart by the press for their clothing. Absolutely vile. It IS wrong the press can lead a bullying campaign and people should be speaking out. It needs to stop.

As those that disagree with Meghan have a tendancy to disappear from her life. I doubt it very much.

Beatrice and Eugenie have been absolutely slaughtered by the press in the past. But they’ve never whined about it as far as I’m aware. And it’s worked in their favour.

In fact after William and Catherine’s wedding where Beatrice wore that hat, she got an absolutely relentless pasting, not only by the press but by the public.

What did she do? She owned it brilliantly, went along with making a joke of it, auctioned the hat off for £80k on eBay and split the proceeds between two children charities.

Class.

Yes, that was brilliant.

Funny how no one wondered what on earth the designer was thinking!

Sarah Ferguson is a lovely, warm person who carries out some wonderful acts of charity in our community which you will never even hear about.
She made some bad decisions but she was treated terribly after that for many years and she mainly took it on the chin. She never alienated her daughters from the family who hated her, even sending them every Christmas and spending it alone at times.

jeffgoldblum · 12/12/2022 19:47

@bakalava , that's really nice ! , I've always thought she was ok , but it's not a popular opinion on here!

She’s also stuck with PA all these years, so perhaps not so lovely.

I agree she was treated appalling by the RF esp around Christmas - and her treatment from the media back then was hideous.

bakalava · 12/12/2022 19:53

Don't get me wrong, she is completely nuts but in a good way! As for Andrew, she was (and probably still is) mad about the boy and is using her instinct to judge his actions, not trial by media.

jeffgoldblum · 12/12/2022 19:55

Aren't we always told on here not to blame the wife or ex in this case , for the sins of the man? .
I think she loves him still and probably believes what he says. Mi can't hold her or her daughters accountable for his actions.

Beatrice & Eugenie got slaughtered at William & Kate’s wedding.

I remember this image being spread around social media that weekend 😡 It only stopped when news that Osama Bin Laden had been killed and then it was replaced by a different meme stating it was a real Disney weekend because “the prince married the princess and the bad guy died”

Beatrice & Eugenie were so classy about the whole fiasco.

On a side note, I think Doria is very classy and dignified too 🥰

Someone (the press I assume) even doctored that image to colour match it with B &E’s outfits. Here is the actual image from the Disney film…

@SnottyLottie , ohh I'd forgotten that! , it was slightly unfortunate that the clothes were so similar!
I think I remember their look's being slated too?

I always thought she was ok and badly treated by the press. But she made bad decision after bad decision really. To be in your 50s, selling access to your husband while seeming a bit drunk. I cant really have any sympathy for her. She traded on her connection with the queen and made quite a bit of money in the US. But she clearly has no ability to control money or live within her means. I know she's always contrite and accepts the opprobrium heaped on but it's sort of unconvincing because you always feel that she's very likely just going to go and do it again.

But she's likeable with a good heart and is popular within the RF (Philip excepted). I'm a bit meh about her really.

jeffgoldblum · 12/12/2022 20:03

Oh so the colours weren't the same! , that's really awful,
Young girls a very sensitive to criticism about looks , I think it was really nasty.
