Can Charles remove Harry's 'prince' title

I've noticed that the Removal of Titles Bill is going through Parliament and people have been talking a lot about Harry and Meghan losing their titles. Does this just refer to the Duke and Duchess titles, or does this also include stripping Harry of being a prince?

Charles won’t go out his way to remove titles from anyone.

He knows how quickly you can become the royal that no-one likes - he’s had various periods of it.

he, and William, knows that next year it could be any of them if they fuck up. In a few years it could be George or Charlotte or Louis that gets the braying press against them.

Removal of titles would show the public just how easy it actually would be and that would be dangerous for them all.

Kinneddar · 11/12/2022 15:24

Kate & Meghan are both Prince consort, not “Princess William and Princess Harry

You're wrong. Prince Phillip was a Prince consort though the title was never used.
Consort is only used for the monarchs spouse

A person marrying a Prince uses his name in their title if calling themselves a Princess. in Catherine's case she's either Princess William or Catherine, Princess of Wales.

JustLyra · 11/12/2022 15:26

Catherine is HRH The Princess of Wales or HRH The Princess William. Her own name won’t actually feature until she’s HM Queen Catherine.

Catherine, Princess of Wales would suggest she was divorced. It’s used often by the media for her (and the other women) but it’s not actually correct.

SenecaFallsRedux · 11/12/2022 15:34

All of which brings to mind, Diana was never Princess Diana, even though she was commonly called that by the media and the public.

I think that’s exactly what they were trying to prevent with the “no, she won’t be Princess Kate” thing around William’s wedding. The way it was worded came over as “not a Princess” which then caused confusion when she was indeed a Princess on George’s birth certificate.

YellowAndGreenToBeSeen · 11/12/2022 15:42

Treason?!

AHAHAHAHAHAHA! Suggest some people dig out the thesaurus!

I REALLY like Meghan and Harry. Refreshing, accessible and emotionally open. Makes a change.

carmenitapink · 11/12/2022 15:56

Unless Andrew is getting his titles stripped this is all absolute nonsense & proves what they say about the media whipping up hate

The Sussex titles will need to be removed. I think this will happen. The prince title could be removed, but I’m not sure they will go that far.

I feel sorry for Charles, I never thought I’d say that, but I do. His coronation is coming up and harry and Meghan will want to be there, but Charles will be under pressure not to allow them,

right now he will be thinking what’s best for the monarchy v the fact it’s his son, but anything he does do, harry could retaliate even worse. As a parent, I think this must be very hard for him,

I don't think they should be there.

They do nothing but whinge and moan and cry poor me. She will probably try to upstage it anyway.

Seeing as the supposedly want a quiet life out of the spotlight why would they want to go 🤔

Unless the idea is to have the facility to take back Royal duke titles like Kent and Gloucester (and potentially Edinburgh if it were given to Edward) once they are inherited by people too far from the crown.

MarshaMelrose · 11/12/2022 22:42

Charles won't do that. It would just excite more attention and bring up the issue of Andrew. It would also give them more to whinge about and make people sympathetic towards them.
They're a pair of windbags. Eventually they'll be just be two empty, old, gas bags.

I can't imagine Charles doing this, it goes against the whole born Royal continuity shit. If he decides to do this it might give the rest of us ideas about royalty in general and how easy it is to get rid of.

This will not be happening without the agreement of Charles.
It is a fudge so we don't all complain about Andrew keeping his titles.

TroysMammy · 12/12/2022 09:17

@Onnabugeisha Prince William is Prince of Wales. He's not Prince William of Wales which he was when King Charles was Prince of Wales. There is no title Prince of England.

He could be styled Prince Henry of Wales just like Prince Michael of Kent.

Suboptimalsitch · 12/12/2022 09:26

I hope Charles doesn't remove their titles. If he did, we'd surely be subjected to another 6 episodes of series 2 dealing with the injustice of it. I never got over Harry's complaint of being financially cut of by his father at the age of 36!

I totally agree. It would give H&M fuel for their fire - this is what happens if you stand up to The Firm, this is what happens when you call their racism and unconscious bias out, this is what happens if you don’t tow the party line etc etc.

Its a no win situation imo, as with their titles they’ll have the ‘platform’ they need to make megabucks by airing the family dirty laundry. Without their titles they’ll use the removal of them to make megabucks by airing the family dirty laundry.

EdithWeston · 12/12/2022 09:55

He could be styled Prince Henry of Wales just like Prince Michael of Kent

No he couldn't because the title has moved on and the children of the current PoW are 'of Wales'

Kent is from the ducal title (as are eg the Princesses of York)

So he'd be like the Queens two younger sons, who are simply Prince Edward and Prince Andrew. No need for further elaboration for DC of the monarch. Their wives use/d the title from the peerage given as a wedding resent. If not, they simply have been the Princesses Andrew and Edward.

Rather like Zara is Mrs Michael Tindall in formal announcements.

donquixotedelamancha · 12/12/2022 09:56

I think removing the titles would help to stunt their ability to exploit and talk about the royal family

It really wouldn't. More drama from this chavvy family would just bring higher ratings for all of them. It's a shame Jeremy Kyle isn't still going- they'd be perfect for it.

There's no sign at all that Charles wants to remove titles.

This is a Private Members Bill brought by the (Labour) member for York in response to constituents' expressed views on Andrew as Duke.

The Bill, if enacted would provide for monarch to remove, on own initiative or at request of a parliamentary committee.

I think that, as written, the Bill is inadequate, because it's either/or. Needs to be either monarch or parliament, not this mash up.

Laurdo · 12/12/2022 10:05

I don't think they'd care if they were stripped of their titles. The Royal family is a sham and I support Harry's decision to distance himself and protect his family from their toxicity. The sooner the royal family is abolished the better!

Sigma33 · 12/12/2022 10:10

Yes, the monarch grants HRH and the title Prince/ss (as happened with Prince Philip) and can also take them away, as happened in 1919 with Princess Patricia at her request - www.thegazette.co.uk/London/issue/31203/page - and in 1917 with the various German princes fighting on the German side who also had British titles (Hanover, from when the Hanoverian king became the British king, Saxe-Coburg-Gotha from Prince Albert).

Also in 1917 those from German princely families who had become British renounced their German princely titles, and were made Marquesses by the king (Cambridge and Milford Haven/the Mountbattens).

Whether it is wise to do that is another matter - it would open up a can of worms and add fuel to the fires that H&M are trying to keep going. A nice mixed metaphor there...

They could choose not to use them if they don't want to be associated with the RF.

Edward & Sophie's children don't (for different reasons).

Just doing nothing is the best solution.

I think I agree. Anything else just stirs up too much trouble.

King Henry the VIII un princesses both his daughters, they became Lady rather than princess

Exactly.

Let's hope Chuck does take their titles - it will be another PR mistake for two serious reasons

  • shows how easily it can be done
  • Andrew will retain his

Thus showing the whole world that you can pay off an Epstein victim who has accused you and that's fine, you keep your title
Even if he removes Andrew's titles it's still putting them in the same category and will be a disaster

I've seen plenty of royalists manipulated by the MSM to start saying that Harry is worse than Andrew because Andrew keeps his head down.

I doubt this private members bill will go anywhere though
Good to see an MP act so fast isn't it - I assume the strikes , fuel poverty , COL crisis has all been sorted first

Roussette · 12/12/2022 10:21

I wish they could, surely his behaviour is treason?!

By that reasoning, Andrew needs beheading and quickly!

ComingRoundAgain · 12/12/2022 10:29

Even now there’s a new P&PoW??

The King is no longer a Wales. So can Henry keep that? I wouldn’t imagine so. Without his own title, his father’s name to take would be Cornwall, surely?

If it happens (which I doubt) I think the most likely outcome would be Prince Henry Mountbatten-Windsor.

Obvs she’d rejoice at the chance to be called a princess, but she’d have to drop her feminist values and use her husband’s name.
