Why do people feel it’s okay to say nasty things about Meghan on social media?

Lilyyy · 08/12/2022 21:02

Why do people care so much about her and Harry’s relationship and are so intent on just being incredibly nasty about someone they don’t even know or really know the truth about? Harry must love her and be happy so why don’t the media and people on social media just let them be?

genuinely asking as I don’t understand why she gets so much hatred everywhere, must be really bloody hard for them to see it all the time. People act like she’s a murderer or something.

I think you can either see through the weasel faux-victimhood or you can’t.

If you can’t, you would just see a lovely young family with a magical back story of fated love who’ve been badly and unfairly treated and were forced to run away.

The rest of us see two grotesquely rich, entitled hypocrites who weep for nobody but themselves whilst all the time checking over their shoulder how photogenic they are and what they can flog off to the highest bidder. And that includes a country whose taxpayers have paid into that magical back story to the tune of millions.

The way Meghan mocked and laughed having to curtsey to the Queen was who she really is. An absolute piss taker. He is just a hapless thicko who desperately wants to be healed by the dumb West Coast psycho-babble she comes out with.

How you can ‘not understand’ the hate baffles me.

Redwineandroses · 08/12/2022 23:20

In fact, two other women I can think of who have been absolutely slaughtered by the press and the public... Kim Kardashian and Katie Price. Both disliked as nonsense celebs etc... then if you've ever watched their shows (KP BEFORE the whole cocaine/car crash scenario) you come away thinking they are actually lovely people who are doing good in the world.

Their shows are made and edited by them though...

onlylarkin · 08/12/2022 23:21

I could care less about the Beckhams.

But until you show me someone who has dealt with the racist coverage frommthe press, then we can have a conversation.

Because it is comparing apples to oranges.

Yes, all the women I'm the RF have been subjected to it. But none of them have been subjected to racist coverage.

The important thing is that NO ONE should be subjected to it.

I'm watching the documentary now - on ep 3 and I STILL like them !
I don't get the vitriol for a couple with a young family , yes privileged, but no more so than half of Hollywood, when people don't even know them .

It actually gives me a grain of comfort to know even within a royal family there are normal issues with in-laws, traditions, bickering, disagreements, and ultimately I admire Harry for standing up for his family and what he believes in.

If the whole royal family , I think he is the most human , empathetic and emotionally intelligent.

Agree 100%

crumpet · 08/12/2022 23:19

I don’t have a massive opinion of them either way other than they behaved like arses in the way they left the RF - announcing their half in half out model etc - any halfwit could have seen that doing so without consulting first would not have worked.

I think this is a very valid criticism of them. It was a huge mess. But I do not think that was all on Meghan.

oakleaffy · 08/12/2022 23:23

This.
It seems so repetitive and insincere, multimillionaires due to the Royal Family that Harry is part of, yet bitching and moaning about it all, yet wanting 'Tidles' as Harry now calls them.

They are flogging the victim narrative to death.

I haven't watched it as don't have Netflix, but the reports coming out that it's just the same old ''whinge'' stuff..

Zuyi · 08/12/2022 23:24

I think people are mad at Harry for abandoning them during this bad time. That's part of the contract for royalty, they get all this enormous wealth and privilege and in return, they serve their country. But he didn't, he just skived off.

The fact that Meghan and Harry are equally disliked is telling. People always hate the woman more, because women are easier targets. But this time, they dislike them both. To me, that shows that it's Harry that's the problem. Everyone's saying oh he's cuntstruck etc. Basically, he betrayed his country, in a feeble kind of way.

Katie Price is white and could have killed someone with her antics.

Kim Kardashian (and many of the sisters) are criticized for trying to appear black.

cjcghana · 08/12/2022 23:26

Because she's a twat? Just saying. No I'm not racist. Live in Africa, married to an African and have a whatever the politically correct term is for our son???

That's why I said before the crash etc and KK isn't white, she is half Armenian. But way to miss the point.

Nancienoo · 08/12/2022 23:27

I think if they stopped attracting attention to them selfs maybe people would leave them alone, perhaps not go on Netflix to air everything that said I think it’s more her than him wanting to be heard.

Exhausteddog · 08/12/2022 23:28

ShirleyPhallus · 08/12/2022 22:03

They never said leave them alone though did they? Throughout this series they said they want to continue doing things in the public eye for various causes they’re passionate about. They just don’t ageee with the constant press intrusion and demands for every detail of their life

The only things I've seen reported on them , is mostly them talking about ....themselves

I suppose that could qualify as a cause they are passionate about...? or (equally feasibly) are the press not reporting "other" causes/charity projects because its not as sale-able as (royal) family drama

UWhatNow · 08/12/2022 23:28

“I see neither of those things, you strange, strange person!”

I think that sentence reflects more on your strangeness and lack of public awareness than mine.

GreenLunchBox · 08/12/2022 23:30

Jealousy. Jealousy and racism.

Redwineandroses · 08/12/2022 21:38

Yet she can't recognise that half of her perceived complaints are actually partly about the cultural differences between not only British, but upper class British, and being American.

I just watched it - he was not complaining, she was explainin'!

I absolutely did not miss the point.

The point here is that Meghan experienced RACIST critisism from the press and people from around the world.

Katie Price and KK have not, because they are not black.

Actually, the bigger point is that no one should have to experience this. No one.

You seriously think MM is the first and only person to receive racist abuse from the press 😱 Do you work for them or something?

She was laughing at HERSELF! She compared herself to a restaurant set in Medieval Times (hence the name) where everything is over the top and theatrical and involves horses. She wasn’t laughing at the tradition of actually curtsying, just her inability to do it properly. Harry looked baffled probably as he’s never been to Medieval Times 😂

Bunnyfuller · 08/12/2022 23:35

@GreenLunchBox how can people have been racist before they knew she was mixed race?

for me: you live off money taken from the public, you put up with intrusion. You don’t pick and choose. And you certainly don’t bleat about being hounded whilst signing up for as many trash gossip shows as you ca.

He’s just a spoilt brat, jealous of his brother and she has literally no clue about the archaic craziness she agreed to by marrying him. You want a private life, fuck off and have it, and leave the keys to Frogmore on your way out.

You did miss the point. It wasn't about racism, it was about mega famous women who have/still do receive bad press but when you watch their shows you think "oh actually they're ok." Then you have to remember said shows have been made and edited by them...

ComfortablyDazed · 08/12/2022 23:36

Agree, the abuse is unwarranted.

I do so wish they would fuck off, though.

At the moment, every time you turn Netflix on, there they are. My FB feed is full of all the news outlets I follow, reviewing their damn show.

So as someone who doesn’t want to know about them, and doesn’t seek them out, even I am struggling to avoid them.

Fuck off and live your so-called ‘private life’.

🙄 the power of a million.

MM has a black mother and a white father. Kim Kardashian has a white mother and her father was Armenian so no she isn't "white."

onlylarkin · 08/12/2022 23:39

What a childish accusation. I see it so often on MN. If I talk in support, I must be an employee. It is silly at best.

No, I do not think that she is the only person in the world to experience racism. In fact, if reports are to be believed, it is alive and strong.

www.cnn.com/2022/09/01/business/uk-workplace-racism/index.html

But when you say that others in the spotlight has also been subjected to racism, and then give me examples of white people, I cant have a serious conversation with you.

It is sad that you are missing the point of, no one should experience racism in the press. Or in their daily lives.

History is full of people who stood up when something was wrong and helped change systems. People with high profiles, celebs, et al are effective in helping create change because of their profile.

If one person in the world looks at what happened and says "that was wrong, we should do better" then an impact was made.

It is only the people who say "this is normal and everyone has to go through it" that slows change.
