Why do people feel it’s okay to say nasty things about Meghan on social media?

Lilyyy · 08/12/2022 21:02

Why do people care so much about her and Harry’s relationship and are so intent on just being incredibly nasty about someone they don’t even know or really know the truth about? Harry must love her and be happy so why don’t the media and people on social media just let them be?

genuinely asking as I don’t understand why she gets so much hatred everywhere, must be really bloody hard for them to see it all the time. People act like she’s a murderer or something.

Every time they’re in danger of getting what they want - slipping into obscurity and having a private life - out they come via Oprah and fucking Netflix.

😑

BonnesVacances · 08/12/2022 23:40

My MIL was spitting over the documentary today. She hates them. Thinks MM is too full of herself. She also quoted the headline from one of the weekend newspapers that said Harry wanted to teach the British people a lesson, or some such total bullshit. She wouldn't have it that it was completely made up.

It's shit like this that guides people's views. She says I'm the only person she knows that likes them. I think they're ok, though they're a bit earnest. I enjoyed the documentary and thought they had a nice relationship.

I think the normal person on the street has absolutely no idea what it would be like to receive death threats and have people writing that you're a cunt on social media and expect you to just put up with it.

The level of vitriol aimed at these two is off the scale and obsessive. I'll never understand how people let themselves get whipped up into such a frenzy and be so totally unaware of it happening. So weird!

What a childish accusation. I see it so often on MN. If I talk in support, I must be an employee. It is silly at best.

No, I do not think that she is the only person in the world to experience racism. In fact, if reports are to be believed, it is alive and strong.

www.cnn.com/2022/09/01/business/uk-workplace-racism/index.html

But when you say that others in the spotlight has also been subjected to racism, and then give me examples of white people, I cant have a serious conversation with you.

It is sad that you are missing the point of, no one should experience racism in the press. Or in their daily lives.

History is full of people who stood up when something was wrong and helped change systems. People with high profiles, celebs, et al are effective in helping create change because of their profile.

If one person in the world looks at what happened and says "that was wrong, we should do better" then an impact was made.

It is only the people who say "this is normal and everyone has to go through it" that slows change.

It was about women hated in the press but loved in their shows edited by them. Not sure how you managed to turn it around to racism.

@BonnesVacances i was once called a cunt on social Media

meinteresamucho · 08/12/2022 23:46

They are bullies and liars. The massive, whopping lies mostly told to hurt their own loved ones have been proven. There is strong evidence for the bullying as reported on by The Sunday Times iirc, which publishes some of the world's most respected journalism. The fact they've behaved as they have in plain sight of others says a lot about their values, entitlement and ethics and yet they want to travel the world preaching about the poor behaviour of others. They aren't in a position to. They have no credibility. They're just horrible people. And they were paid to represent us so of course we're interested. They're now making a fortune slating our country abroad while trying to get us to pay their security bills. Which isn't to say they don't have some legitimate things to say about the press and racism but their credibility is so damaged that these messages will not have the kind of impact that they might have done.

Anyone with any sense can see she is manipulative and attention seeking. It’s awful what she’s doing. The clip of her mocking the Queen because she had to courtesy to her is shameful. Even Harry looks embarrassed at that.

You clearly need to watch it - she was not mocking the Queen, she was mocking herself.

Not sure how you didn't turn it into racism? Meghan and Harry have said for years she had racist abuse from the press. It is one of the reasons why they left. You can not compare abuse of white women to that of abuse of black women by the press. Because they are different, though no less impactful.

The good thing, I think, is that we agree that no women should not be subjected to abuse by the press. Unless I read that wrong.

I am not going to be pulled into a discussion of KK's race with you. She is 3rd generation Armenian and is classified as a white person in the US. Even white people have different colored skin tones.

BonnesVacances · 08/12/2022 23:53

ComfortablyDazed · 08/12/2022 23:36

Agree, the abuse is unwarranted.

I do so wish they would fuck off, though.

At the moment, every time you turn Netflix on, there they are. My FB feed is full of all the news outlets I follow, reviewing their damn show.

So as someone who doesn’t want to know about them, and doesn’t seek them out, even I am struggling to avoid them.

Fuck off and live your so-called ‘private life’.

🙄 the power of a million.

Then your problem is with the media. Who dredge up stories from god knows where all the time.

So far they've been criticised for Oprah, the podcasts, and this Netflix series. That's 3 things in how long? Hardly attention seeking is it?

It's the newspapers that decide to print yet another story about them because it sells. And nothing sells more than hate. And haven't the media done an excellent job in stirring up that!

Just shows how gullible people can be!

Justasec321 · 09/12/2022 00:00

Redwineandroses · 08/12/2022 22:47

True. Harry and Megan are very much dramatic celebrity couple now and I also wonder if people are just as invested in the beckhams and the Kardashian's? The Beckhams are at least self made and have made good contributions towards sport, music and fashion. Harry was just born privileged and Megan is a C list Hollywood actress.

a C list Hollywood actress.

And you are....?

An A list something or other I suppose? 😂

No you're not going to be pulled in because you've just realised you Kk isn't white so your race argument was diluted somewhat. Her father was Amenian, so she's not a white woman. She's clearly not a white woman, especially when you compare her to her other sisters with a different father. She also married a black man and has mixed race children as you're probably aware so no doubt she's facing racism every which way every day.

But don't let that disract you from your sleb twaddle of h&m.

onlylarkin · 09/12/2022 00:01

One of the things that was quickly pointed out in the documentary was the racist immigration backlash from 2015 - 2018. I, not being from the UK, did not realize it. Especially since the US was having it's own racial reckoning at the time. I myself had to turn the news off because I could not handle watching it any longer.

I decided I was going to look more into that. If anyone else is interested in learning more of how the media played into this, you may start here like I am.

www.nature.com/articles/s41599-021-01020-4

For the record. I do not think the RF is racist. I do think SOME of the members and employees are racist and that is representative of the general population worldwide. In fact, I think that the entire conversation needs to be about the media and how creating division actually makes them money and how to stop that in the future.

meinteresamucho · 09/12/2022 00:02

But they didn't leave because of the racism. They were open about saying they would have stayed had they been allowed to do the half in half out model they declared they would be doing on their website. They only left when they were told it didn't work like that.

She was not mocking the Queen.

If she was even close to mocking the Queen that would be the only headline today.

Be better.

VladmirsPoutine · 08/12/2022 21:26

If she was fully white there'd of course be some terrible posts about her online much like any celeb but that she's half black, American and married into the royal family means she's had ideas stratosphere's above her station. The vitriol about her really does transcend the typical 'hate' discourse about people in the public eye. I am no fan of royalty or Meghan per se, but I absolutely hope she is thoroughly enjoying her wonderful life with her beautiful kids and husband.

And just to pre-empt the 'ItZ n0T aBöUt RaYsĘ I jUs' dOWn't lYk hERR' - yes it's about race even if you don't realise it.

Honestly the way people are fizzing with hatred is so wildly abnormal.

notangelinajolie · 09/12/2022 00:03

I think people say nasty things about her because her and Harry threw their families under the bus for money. An alleged 100 million USD.

Nancienoo · 09/12/2022 00:03

Let’s all agree it was cheap to go on Netflix to talk about no class at all

I am sure that KK does experience racism with her mixed race kids.

And yet, she still keeps being in the spotlight for cultural appropriation and trying to appear as something she is not, black.

You are comparing apples and oranges in a very transparent effort to clasify the D and D of S as celebs - just lke KK who becake famous because her sex partner urinated on her.

Which would go a lng way to proving their point by the way,

But still, very uncool of you Redwine.
