Why do people feel it’s okay to say nasty things about Meghan on social media?

Lilyyy · 08/12/2022 21:02

Why do people care so much about her and Harry’s relationship and are so intent on just being incredibly nasty about someone they don’t even know or really know the truth about? Harry must love her and be happy so why don’t the media and people on social media just let them be?

genuinely asking as I don’t understand why she gets so much hatred everywhere, must be really bloody hard for them to see it all the time. People act like she’s a murderer or something.

*Lol! I think their son being BFFs with a convicted paedophile and a convicted madam and procurer of underage girls, and having to give him £12m to pay off one of those underage girls will have had a greater impact on their levels of distress.

Honestly, WTAF is wrong with people? We have a government that siphoned treasury money off to its mates. People in full time jobs are having to visit food banks. Energy companies making enormous profits while people are shivering in their houses.

Meanwhile people are bleating "But Meghan..." No wonder this country is a shit pile. What an embarrassment!*

Very true! We seem to embrace the serf mentality in this country.

lemmein · 09/12/2022 13:05

Ffs, bold fail AGAIN 😐

Roussette · 09/12/2022 12:55

They won't admit that. Not ever. They always say 'I really liked Meghan when she first met Harry but....'

Well... the really liking didn't last long as the vitriolic threads started before they were engaged. Which is about the time the toxic press started

Just like they’ll never admit they’re jealous. Or don’t like tall poppies.

You have to be careful on these threads though. As they’re happy to fling their unsubstantiated shit at someone else, but they’re very sensitive if they think you’re aiming it in their direction. Especially if you’re wrong, because even though other people have to put up and shut up in that situation, that’s not when it’s people making shit up about you.

Roussette · 09/12/2022 12:58

We're very different then. I had no problem with it. I cut her some slack being from a different country (which is vastly different to us in some ways), being an independent woman who had made a name for herself in an acting career before meeting Harry. I had an open mind.

I think you're right about Meghan being very Californian and older than previous brides to be did make a difference. It sounded like a showbiz interview that Meghan would have a lot of experience doing. Certainly a lot better than the ghastly Diana and Charles disaster.
However Roussette, I am allowed to make up my own mind about people. You're implying that I'm a brain washed drone. I'm really not

Eranzer · 09/12/2022 13:23

People are fucking weird. They, themselves, become overly invested in analysing and obsessing over every detail of a celebrity they've never met, fill themselves with hatred over them and feel the need to vent about it incessantly. Absolutely fucking bizarre. Sounds like a massive you problem rather than a Meghan and Harry problem. Nobody is forcing you to follow everything they do.

It is insanely backwards the general public and the MSM have caused more of a stir over them than they have over Prince Andrew being an actual nonce.

I, for one, think they're ace. Good on them.

BonnesVacances · 09/12/2022 13:25

Roussette · 09/12/2022 13:01

God yes @antelopevalley

Anyone can say anything, make up absolute tripe about Meghan and it can stand without any reference point. These threads are now unmoderated because if I ever report something which I consider is absolutely vile, I'm told to kick back myself about it. And it's just an opinion.
I just know that the vitriol and name calling spewed out, wouldn't be allowed for any other famous person.

I think that clearly answers the question in the thread title.

Why do people feel it’s okay to say nasty things about Meghan Markle on social media?

Because they can.

Good grief, I am not implying that at all ! Where on earth have you got that from?
I've said we can agree to differ, I thought we were chatting on that basis. Of course you can make your own mind up about people, as can I.

Yes, agree, Meghan was not like a malleable Diana peeking out from under her eyelashes. She was a consumate polished professional actress, very different from what had gone before. With Sarah we had the exuberant over the top young girl, Diana the shy teenager, then along comes Meghan. A different ballgame altogether!

Should also add, MN do delete some posts. I had a post reported and deleted because apparently calling Meghan haters fucking idiots was goady to other posters on the thread.

So you can’t say anything about the people saying nasty things about Meghan Markle on social media.

Because apparently that’s goady and they get upset.

So they can give it out but can’t take it back. And these are people who expected MM to shut up and put up with racial abuse, death threats and bullshit stories about her.

It’s laughable really. And sad.

Bugeyedowl · 09/12/2022 13:30

Because she's a black/mixed race woman who has literally dared to stand up for herself against the epitome of white society, the British RF. She won't just conveniently sit down and shut up.

(That and people think they are related to the royals and that the Queen was their own granny.)

Well... there has been a sea change I think. These threads used to be moderated to an extent. But really not now. I have no idea if MN has just given up, or their opinion has changed or the worse they are the more traffic they get. I have reported the odd post... only one or two that are totally abhorrent. They don't get deleted. I was told I'm good at giving my opinion, why don't I push back against what that person is saying. I can't push back against that sort of nasty insults because it's more than my life's worth!

username8888 · 09/12/2022 13:44

But they are using media and social media to put 'their story'. Unfortunately that story is busy slagging off the royal family, the british media and everyone else.

Social media is a force for good and for bad. H&M are not alone in being targets. Think of all the problems with self harm, sucicidal posts, racist and mysoginistic comments, as well as many many celebrities and public figures, including politicians. Its the wild west character of SM, which no one yet seems to be able to rein in.

kirinm · 09/12/2022 13:44

I would say that the MN threads are where I've read some of the most vitriolic stuff about MM online full stop (aside from the headlines of the tabloid press).

BonnesVacances · 09/12/2022 13:49

@Roussette Maybe they agree with it all. As I'm suspicious that my post calling Meghan haters fucking idiots was the one that someone (and MN) thought needed deleting in this sea of hate and vitriol towards MM.

canina · 09/12/2022 15:22

I'd like to know why she didn't invite any relatives to her wedding - other than her mother?

antelopevalley · 09/12/2022 15:24

@canina People will be vetted by the palace beforehand. Why don't you ask them?

antelopevalley · 09/12/2022 15:24

@BonnesVacances Perhaps they do? They certainly seem to see no issue with leaving racist comments standing.

I'd love to hear an answer to this. M's half sister's daughter was told that she couldn't go because her mother wasn't invited. Tom Markle's brother the diplomat wasn't invited even though he fixed up an internship for Meghan. As for Meghan's father, the whole situation is shrouded in mystery and nastiness. And yet a place was found for George and Amal Clooney. Maybe we'll find out in the next three Netflix episodes. Or not...

Chippy1234 · 09/12/2022 15:30

Having watched the series that THEY filmed it is a complete load of tosh and rubbish. She is acting her socks off pretending they are the victims here. The swipe regarding other RF members choosing duty rather than love was a disgrace. Who the hell does Harry think he is. The holding hands, the fake tears.

if they really hate the media so much what on earth are they doing?

It’s their ‘truth’ and they know the RF won’t answer back.

They should hang their heads in shame.

antelopevalley · 09/12/2022 15:24

Absolute nonsense. Harry and Meghan were free to ask who they wanted.

Tinkerbyebye · 09/12/2022 15:32

Why does anyone on SM post nasty things about anyone? Be it Meghan, Catherine or Shiela down the road?

Because they can

move on you don’t have to read them or comment

antelopevalley · 09/12/2022 15:40

@derxa How do you know that!!

antelopevalley · 09/12/2022 15:41

"Ms Agnew has become the second prominent female aide to have left as soon as she married. Kate’s former private secretary, Rebecca Deacon, quit in 2017."

You think the palace prevented her from having her family at the wedding Shock
That is shocking and probably what caused a lot of people to be suspicious of her.

antelopevalley · 09/12/2022 16:15

@canina I have no idea, perhaps. Perhaps she did not want them there. Perhaps she invited them and they would not come. None of us know. But you would not know it from some of the comments on here.
