It's landed - 3 episodes with what I assume is 3 next week.

How dare she say hugging is 'jarring for a lot of Brits'. How fucking dare she. She does not speak for me.

What does she know about 'Brits'? She was only in the country for about 5 minutes. And it's not as if she was socialising with a representative cross section of British society.

She has a point though.
there were big cultural differences at play.

She is so natural and attuned to people, it only takes 5 minutes...

Colcat · 08/12/2022 19:31

Sigma33 that really made me laugh!

clyspa · 08/12/2022 19:31

Now it's 2021 and they are visiting US army personnel in the states / introduced as duke and duchess

It feels a bit odd / they obv don't really know who they are and am not sure of the capacity of visit / maybe invictus

It sounds like they're intent on just slagging off the UK as much as possible...are we going to be treated to a US version of all this?

I guess it is to fill in the narrative of being 'forced out' rather than running away because it didn't suit them....the UK was so horrible we had to leave - here is a history of how horrible they are (complete with historians).

So weird - it's supposed to be a documentary about them not Britain's colonial past.

Roussette · 08/12/2022 19:32

Farmageddon · 08/12/2022 19:28

I mean, I could say the same to you about this thread - nobody's forcing to you be here telling us all how horrible we are.

And yet here you are...

I'm halfway through watching it so quite entitled to express an opinion. I'm not posting a post saying .... it's boring, they're boring, I can't bear to watch it.

Have I called you all horrible? No.

milti · 08/12/2022 19:33

Thanks Rousette - genuinely I don’t know how you sustain an interest in this for years - it’s the same old thing over and again - in the papers, in the interviews and on here. I’ll let you get on with it

clyspa · 08/12/2022 19:28

He says he could have carried on making the same mistakes but he learnt from that

except the time he racially abused a guy in his army unit was 4 years later .....

Yes - not a huge amount of self awareness.

Colcat · 08/12/2022 19:33

I've decided if anyone tries to hug me in future I shall hold up my hand and say 'please don't. I find it jarring' Grin

Yes to cultural differences - but could you imagine if William and Kate came out and said 'Oh yeah, she's really fake and annoying, very California'...

I'm sure they'd love to, but unfortunately for them, their truth has to stay hidden.

Well to be fair, saying "Brits don't like hugging" isn't a rude as "Californians are fake and annoying", even if it is still a sweeping generalisation.

clyspa · 08/12/2022 19:36

MM saying husband happy to be back on base and falling back into military banter

Harry talking about us army pension after 20 years service

He's saying he signed up for 3 years and they kept on dangling options in front of him so he stayed 10 years

Now we are going into Harry as a solider

He says it gave him the lived experience other people in family didn't have - so not Andrew or William then?

I disagree. I think she's trying to insinuate that British people are cold and stuffy. As in not warm and empathetic like her...

My point though, was that W&K never have the chance to say stuff like that, they're not able to. Which she and Harry well know of course.

I think you should.

And, as suggested in another thread, use the phrase 'with stakes this high, doesn't it make sense to hear the story from me?' to win any arguments at work 😁

So back to 'they' again? Who is 'they'?

And is there any way in which he does not consider himself superior to everyone else in 'this family'? He is just oozing smug.

Rhondaa · 08/12/2022 19:40

'there were big cultural differences at play.'

Yes but surely she should embrace cultural differences not sneer and snigger at them? I mean we know it's do as we say not as we do but I'm surprised they dropped these clangers over the uptight inlaws, silly curtsies and cool 'huggy' Markle.

Yes, she's just so natural and tuned into emotions. She can even have people over for dinner barefoot and in ripped jeans!!!!

If only we could live up to her example... but at least we have her as a role model while we battle our repressed emotions

garlicandsapphires · 08/12/2022 19:31

there were big cultural differences at play.

Why even mention it though?

Except to hint 'I am warm, affectionate and open. Unlike those cold, repressed Brits. No wonder I had to flee! Wouldn't you?'

clyspa · 08/12/2022 19:42

We are seeing his footage from Afghanistan (when he was interviewed there) 2x tours

He grew up pretty fast ' I went to war twice'

He's made life long friends and they were second family (of third if you count the Prince etc in Lesotho- I'm not being spiky just that he's got a wider circle then perhaps we are led to believe if we take his words as given)

He says then still scars from his mum's awesomeness- William sent him a letter saying he thought their mum would be proud of Harry

The military banter that includes calling others p**i

How heart warming!

ChardonnaysBeastlyCat · 08/12/2022 19:44

'I'm asking him can I wear these earrings are they a British designer, cut the tags on my clothes'

Why would you even need to ask someone if you need to cut the tags off your clothes?

Who walks around with the tags showing? What madness is that?

Rhondaa · 08/12/2022 19:45

You can see why the rf will have had reservations. I bet when they met huggy barefoot M they knew it would end up with Netflix and reality telly. Twas scripted from the off. Poor H some bewildered cannon fodder extra.
