It's landed - 3 episodes with what I assume is 3 next week.

It’s very uncomfortable to hear Harry speak about William and Kate, their supposed ‘pain’, how his brother coped with the loss of Diana etc. These are not his stories to share, these people have not given their permission for such personal things to be shared. William and Harry have both spoken out about other people doing this to them (thinking of their statement about Paul Burrell, asking him to refrain), William strongly requested the panorama interview not be re-shown as it caused him pain.

Yet here is Harry, someone who is so outspoken about being misrepresented in the media, about having the right to ‘speak his own truth’ - and he’s putting words into other peoples mouths, sharing extremely intimate things about the most painful time of their lives, without permission and expressly against their wishes.

And the sadder thing is, I don’t think he will understand why this is wrong of him.

They jointly said this about Paul:

”"We cannot believe that Paul, who was entrusted with so much, could abuse his position in such a cold and overt betrayal. It was not only deeply painful for the two of us but also for everyone else affected and it would mortify our mother if she were alive today and, if we might say so, we feel we are more able to speak for our mother than Paul. We ask Paul please to bring these revelations to an end."

Replace Paul with Harry and I would imagine it would be a fairly accurate representation of how William is feeling atm. Would be for me if I were him anyway.

White commentators agreeing they were oblivious to U.K. legacy in this regard etc

So I think they are basically saying this is the Brit psych and therefore why Brits don't like MM

To get the point faster then they are getting to it

Stuart Heritage has said everything I thought about episode one in the Guardian

Thanks for that article. I got through about 20mins this morning before quitting from boredom and this has confirmed that it is not worth going back to.

IcedPurple · 08/12/2022 17:47

Back to comment or that Britain having a black princess was so improbable and he talks about the also improbability of a small island having the biggest empire the world has ever seen (think genghis khan might disagree? Wasn't his the biggest?)

Not that 'improbable' given the industrial revolution and the fact that, in an age of sea travel, Britain had the best navy in the world. If anything, being an island may have been helpful. But I guess History wasn't one of Harry's 2 A levels.

How many subjects has Harry recently become qualified to tell us all about? Racism? Vaccine equity? And now colonial history? What's next I wonder?

clyspa · 08/12/2022 17:49

I think the black author is making some very valid points about the U.K., I liked his take on reimagining the U.K. etc

Just a shame it's in the service of one couple

The author should get his own show though to talk through his ideas

Was it David Olusoga? He’s great.

LemonSwan · 08/12/2022 17:52

Wow. On episode 2. Glad I am watching it as it’s really opening my eyes to the issues and their perspective.

It is very much an insight into recollections may vary.

I can sympathise with why this was a problem. She pretty much had the perfect life before. B list celeb, all the perks of celebrity with few of the downfalls.

I do think Harry really let her down in the beginning. She shouldn’t have been in a suburban house on street when the stories broke about their partnership with the curtains drawn having to make her own way across London to sneak into the palace. Surely he could have sent a car for gods sake.

I am now getting to the point of brexit. It’s funny because most of MN would truly have you believe everyone who voted for brexit was racist. No wonder they are running with the same assumption.

Interesting for sure.

Sagharbor · 08/12/2022 17:06

@WeWereInParis

Do you honestly think he did not care about his grandmother? Really?

No, I definitely don't think they care but I do think they've had second thoughts about it after the rather sudden passing of the Queen and cared about how it would reflect on them. Serves them right though.

clyspa · 08/12/2022 17:52

1 Dec 2o17 / 5 months to wedding

People wiring to see them at some royal engagement or other

Some old bloke got an owl saying 'Harry's brought his bird so I brought mine'

I can to be fair appreciate why MM couldn't hack it when seen through this lens

We are bonkers as a nation

Yes countess - he's very articulate and has a lovely voice so easy to engage with what he is saying

After bingeing on the NF we are supposed to end up addicted to their content so by January, we are expected to rush out and buy the book. I mean, you can barely afford to heat your home or buy decent food compared to last year but the book? it is definitely more important than all of that. Just to pay the huge Californian bills on their mansion.

Possibly the people who buy royalty books are different from the people who have Netflix? There’s probably a lot of people only in one of those groups.

garlicandsapphires · 08/12/2022 17:55

I was really surprised that they had such an ordinary tent in Botswana Shock
I thought they’d at least have a fancy glamping set up.

Its made me warm to them both actually, her especially.

Roussette · 08/12/2022 17:56

IcedPurple · 08/12/2022 17:15

Yes, the Duchess of York who is widely ridiculed as a tacky grifter living off her royal connections. Sounds familiar.

Goodness. You can't bear H&M can you? Poor you.

Colcat · 08/12/2022 17:56

One of my closest friends voted for Brexit. He's black, married to a white woman and has mixed race children. He's as far from a racist as you might imagine. It's such a lazy assumption that all Brexit voters are racists.

pizzaHeart · 08/12/2022 17:56

So what is it they wanted to say in the interview that they couldn't?
I wonder this as well. When someone is announcing engagement the usual questions are: how did they meet, how long they know each other, who proposed when and how, show the ring, when the wedding will be . And the extra stuff if the asking side is too sentimental: did you know he/ she is the one, when was the turning point in your relationship etc.
Im actually rewatching the interview now and it’s a bog standard interview with a celebrity couple. I bet George Clooney could do similar if asked.
I’m not surprised tbh if some members of the family were not excited about their relationship. She is 3 years older, divorced, American and actress. I’m sure they thought that she’s after him because he’s a Prince. They have very very different background, you can make it work in a marriage but only if both sides are clever and work hard ( but it’s not this situation) .

garlicandsapphires · 08/12/2022 17:58

I still can’t get over H saying he was embarrassed about her MH issues in the Oprah interview.
I really think he let her down terribly

clyspa · 08/12/2022 17:58

She's saying she had never seen pics or video of a royal walkabout

This is because she does not use google

Last bit is me not her

She's coming across to me as if she really does not see the point and hence why it's quite clear it's not going to work / she just doesn't get it and it dating so honestly - but did she not even just intimate this to him at the time

And again I'm trying to imagine being asked to go somewhere in an official capacity and have no clue what I'm supposed to do or why or anything - just turn up and sing it?

clyspa · 08/12/2022 18:00

Wing it -urgh hate auto correct

OP posts:
hamstersarse · 08/12/2022 18:02

I’ve watched them all now.

I like her, I had liked her before at one point then I got a bit swayed by media stories of spoilt bitch etc. but really, our press are the pits. We all know that, they are grim - she certainly isn’t the first to have this sort of treatment by the press, they have history alright!

Shes done nothing wrong? I usually hate crap accusations of jealousy but I think people are jealous of her

clyspa · 08/12/2022 18:03

He's saying he could tell her what he knew about it but not about the style or being a woman - how they needed to dress etc

Harry needs to do better than that as an explanation

Suggests at this point even no women in the RF would help her? Not even Eugenie?

OP posts:
happylove890 · 08/12/2022 18:03

quite shocking that some people are excusing H&M's inexcusably awful
behaviour and accusing anyone who criticises the dreadful pair as racist.

clyspa · 08/12/2022 18:05

She's cleaning up from past stuff

'I'm asking him can I wear these earrings are they a British designer, cut the tags on my clothes'

This maybe related to the controversy over the earrings that time, the pic of her dress having the tags hanging off

Inference is again that they are on their own / no staff at all?

OP posts:
Rhondaa · 08/12/2022 18:08

'It’s very uncomfortable to hear Harry speak about William and Kate, their supposed ‘pain’, how his brother coped with the loss of Diana etc. These are not his stories to share, these people have not given their permission for such personal things to be shared.'

No they aren't his stories to share and if someone went on a reality show and blabbed about him he'd be apoplectic.

Just such a deluded, spiteful pair of fools. I bet the rf are pissing themselves laughing at this latest pile of guff.

clyspa · 08/12/2022 18:10

Lots of nice compliments from people on the streets

Harry saying everyone pleased and excited - she's a breath of fresh air etc

News reporting afterwards was she sparkled the most

Is this going to be about will and Kate needing to cut them down to size

Still also feel she is not engaged - she always looked I'll at ease for me - smiley but I don't think she liked the royal engagements at all

OP posts:
TheFairyCaravan · 08/12/2022 18:12

I’m yet to see any inexcusably bad behaviour from either of them.

I don’t think she knew what she was marrying into. How on earth could she have? I don’t think any one, man or woman, marrying into the RF know what it’s really going to be like and it’s ridiculous to suggest that they would.

The tabloid press and the likes of Dan Wootton and Piers Morgan have a lot to answer for how Meghan and Harry have been treated since their relationship was announced. They’re no more spoilt than William and Kate, probably far more less so, imo. I’m glad they’ve broke the mould and moved away, for their sakes. They look happy and in love and I think that irks a lot of people.
