It's landed - 3 episodes with what I assume is 3 next week.

Don't know!

Ok so he's out in the garden (overlooked by staff quarters - don't know if that's relevant yet) with lots of battery candles and she is on the phone to Jess (is that the best friend who's gone quiet over a race issue?)

So she's recorded this phone call? She's saying oh my god Jess it's happening

So we have the presence of mind to record this call while Harry is out there freezing his balls off setting up candles?

I might phone a friend but record it?

The Mail has a still of him on one knee, holding a ring box. Blurry, so seems to be from a phone video.

Who does that though? Films while they are being proposed to? Not exactly 'in the moment' , is it?

There's a really weird bit just before he proposes where she calls a friend to say "omg it's happening" while Harry is outside and bizarrely the phone call is recorded.

WeWereInParis · 08/12/2022 16:25

He's saying he wanted to do it earlier but needed his grandmothers permission so couldn't fo it outside the U.K. - why not? Why not ask Queen whenever and then propose whenever??

Is there a rule that you have to propose within a set timeframe or something?

That bit confused me as well, especially as William proposed in Kenya didn't he.

It seems to be a bit of a theme with Harry.

"They" didn't allow him to do this.

"This family" requires you to be like that.

Not once does he acknowledge the massive privilege he got and still gets from being one of 'them'.

clyspa · 08/12/2022 16:33

Yes photo of him on one knee with lovely roses - I don't know why but I note he's not got a coat on, it's nov in the U.K. at night?

He's made a nice effort

It links back to what I was saying earlier about filming yourself crying it's the sort of nonsense Vloggers or influencers do to get likes and create content.

Normal people don't record this sort of stuff as it's happening to them. They just enjoy the moment and phone everyone excitedly later.

pizzaHeart · 08/12/2022 16:33

@Sweetpeasaremadeforbees

yes, I wonder that as well, it’s like they want to show how nice and friendly they are towards each other. Nothing wrong with just smiling sincerely and then not bitching in conversation.
not that they’re bitching each other on Graham Norton’s show but in general.
I hate hugging tbh unless it’s DH or DD.

Yes, William proposed in Kenya.

But they are those types of people. They met on instagram. She has all the characteristics of a lottery winner's daughter getting a foot in the door and using the Law of Attraction to at elevate herself to make it look like she was born into it. It worked. They are two not very nice people who fell for each other and are not being nice together.

Beees · 08/12/2022 16:42

Oh I agree they are definitely those kinds of people, it certainly seems like they were making the recordings just so they had content for the future. However, some posters earlier were commenting like recording these things was totally normal and something normal people without an ulterior motive would do.

clyspa · 08/12/2022 16:43

They had a party, worse penguin onesies as previously noted , very happy, friends thrilled - nice pics walking the dog

The official engagement pic with the lovely dress on the steps

Now the press stuff - she'll bring new sparkle into the RF etc. footage of Brits saying they are pleased, family more in touch with Britain as it is now etc

Black commentator said it made black people feel seen

Now it's Brexit background stuff following the 2016 ref. So the black interviewees are seeing this identity crisis feeding into feelings about MM

My mind is genuinely boggling about the recordings and photos of their proposal. Fine if she wants to have a record of it - she was a content creator for the Tig, on instagram, so that’s not unusual - but they have now put it out there for the world to see, in their Netflix documentary? And yet they will still complain about intrusions, I am sure.

Do they not realise if you voluntarily open up your private lives when you want the positive attention, legally you lose the right to complain when others post private things that generate negative attention…?

clyspa · 08/12/2022 16:49

Harry saying in 2016 EU commissioned a report stating if U.K. govt and media didn't sort it out that there could be a race war in the U.K.

attaching Brexit to his girlfriend is quite the bold claim

I think she is doing a kind of Katie Hopkins. Her agent probably pointed out the obvious that the public don't love her, they see through the starlet act and keep spotting her lies. However, she still needs to make money from the brand so she is doing the opposite to what Michelle Obama advised and going lower to cash in on their new notoriety. I am expecting a lot of deliberately provocative statements if this is the strategy. However, once you know it, is it interesting to watch anymore?

clyspa · 08/12/2022 16:54

I feel it puts too much on one couple (like they need to give Brits at this time a fairytale to distract them?) and also doesn't explain the support for the wedding that they latterly got

For me Brexit was very much a disappointment and I didn't like the far right coming out of their corner one bit but it never crossed my mind to associate it with flipping Harry and his at that point new g/friend - we all had bigger things to grapple with I think -

He is a piece of work sitting watching that when his grandmother is only just dead.

It does say that all interviews took place by August 2022. The queen died in September, so he wasn't sitting watching that when his grandmother was "only just dead".

It was a ridiculous curtsey though.

Ah right, sorry! I haven't watched it, don't have Netflix. I just saw the clip on twitter. Regardless, Harry looked aghast watching that re-enactment but the clip remains in the documentary. I wonder if that was something they wanted to edit after learning of the Queen's death...

What 'report' is that?

Harry posing as a commentator on such matters is hilarious. It's a good thing they only do scripted interviews where they get to dictate the questions.

clyspa · 08/12/2022 17:01

So this commentator is now saying can the media control itself, can the palace control them can the Brits control themselves over the engagement - do people remember this atmosphere?

MM says at this point she believed what she was being told (by whom? Doesn't say) that it will pass and get better, just what they do at the beginning, after married will get better but doesn't matter what she did , how good she was (in what sense? Not explained) they would want to destroy her

That's it for to 2

Oh no, the media and public do not need an invitation to comment, they do it and will continue to do it, regardless

Roussette · 08/12/2022 17:05

IcedPurple · 08/12/2022 15:39

I think MM thinks it's silly at the end of the day and am sure many republicans would agree but we'd hope people don't sneer when it's you joining them

Some people would also say it's silly to go around California calling yourself a Duchess and having headed paper with a cute little coronet.

Why? She is one, why can't she?

Duchess of York no doubt does the same and uses her title endlessly and she's been divorced from a member of the RF for 25 years!

Maireas · 08/12/2022 17:05

Thank you, @clyspa for this account.
I have to say that your last post genuinely makes me think that both of them are in the realms of fantasy.

@WeWereInParis

Do you honestly think he did not care about his grandmother? Really?

Farmageddon · 08/12/2022 17:07

They really seem intent on painting the UK as a bunch of right wing bigots. What the hell has Brexit got to do with anything? Talk about scraping the barrel.

Maireas · 08/12/2022 17:08

So - let me get this right - not only did their wedding have South Africans dancing in the streets, it saved the UK from race riots?

clyspa · 08/12/2022 17:11

Nov 27 2017 - engagement interview

They look very happy

Cut to Netflix interview and MM calls it ' an orchestrated reality show'

She says it was rehearsed / they did the photo call outside in the garden then went inside straight to record the interview

I'm not loving MM at this moment - she's pissed about this interview and feels like this is going like the wedding comments eg not my real wedding. This was not her true self/feelings as expressed in the interview - it's sounding like a I did it but it was fake so there

And that's fine but think like people would have gotten over no or a smaller royal wedding, there being no engaging interview - there's no need for this

Just my take

OP posts:
Maireas · 08/12/2022 17:13

I don't understand, she came across really well and it was a nice interview. What was the problem? Who made her say things and rehearse it?
