It's landed - 3 episodes with what I assume is 3 next week.

They never said they wanted privacy.

Every action up to now has suggested they did want privacy from their children's images being out there though. Other than a handful of very carefully released pictures we've hardly seen either child and yet all of a sudden now they are happy for everyone to see them because it's in a show that's lining their pockets. It certainly feels like they are including the children to gain views and make more money. They didn't need to bring the kids into it at all.

Sagharbor · 08/12/2022 13:57

Beees · 08/12/2022 13:44

Exactly. Its just so weird that one of their main arguments is privacy and yet they are now happily releasing videos and pictures of private family moments which go far more personal than any pap picture I've ever.

HUGE difference, they have chosen to share these particular moments with us. As opposed to having some media outlet take photos of them and share them with the public.

Privacy is not about sharing photos or video footage with the public. Its about deciding what you want to keep to yourself versus what you want to share with the public. You and not someone else.

Maireas · 08/12/2022 13:59

Why then, @Sagharbor ? Why share these very personal and private moments?
It's to generate interest, surely?

MaulPerton · 08/12/2022 13:51

Garbus has done a number on her. That clip where she mocks her husband. Goodness. Another The Cut?

I'm sure they would have had to sign off on the final editing of this, no?

Not sure it's journalists or directors fault when it's their own words that are being used.

Roussette · 08/12/2022 13:53

They never said they wanted privacy.

If i burst into your home by kicking the door down. That's invading your privacy.

If you decide you want me to come round, invite me, open the door and welcome me. That isn't.

I agree. That’s why I said they didn’t want privacy 🤪. But it does unfortunately seem a bit hypocritical to me as allergic to the free press as they are, yet sell your story to the highest bidder. They want control and they only want their side of the story to be told.

Beees · 08/12/2022 14:00

Isn't the point that even the best paparazzi in the world wouldn't have got anywhere near the intamacy or as up close and personal as some of these images.

I'm not saying they shouldn't be allowed to chose what to share but it's a bit bonkers to get cross that someone might take a picture of you walking down the street or at a shop for example if you then release pictures of very private family moments.

ChardonnaysBeastlyCat · 08/12/2022 14:03

Just who films themselves all the time? Why?

smilesy · 08/12/2022 14:04

Agreed. But what about the privacy of those they are (not so) subtly slagging off here? Surely the first awkward meeting between them and the Waleses should remain private?no one asked them if it was ok to share it. One of the photos in the first trailer was taken in a private part of Buckingham Palace. Apparently they didn’t ask the Queen if it was ok.

loislovesstewie · 08/12/2022 14:05

LondonWolf · 08/12/2022 13:39

So in short, they were filming these schmaltzy videos almost from day one? They never intended to make it work.

Well I said this on another thread. I think the plan all along was to leave and make money out of their time 'being royals'.

ChardonnaysBeastlyCat · 08/12/2022 14:05

Anyway, I am watching and I really enjoy hearing people saying Prince Hairy all the time.

So Doria is great - isn't that mad that everyone adores her effortlessly?

Now it's all happy headlines and happy American friends

Why is it mad?

Maireas · 08/12/2022 14:06

There was that strange claim in The Cut interview that she was was being a good parent by taking her children out of the UK because they wouldn't be able to go to school in London without swarms of photographers papping them. Children are protected from that, how could she not know?

LouisCatorze · 08/12/2022 14:07

I zoned out after about 15 minutes of the first episode. Nothing really comes as a big reveal because of all the previous drip-feeding of info. I won't be tuning in again.

clyspa · 08/12/2022 14:08

In ep2 it's about her childhood and she's stating that it wasn't until the U.K. that her race was a thing

Her mum was asked in the store in the US whose child she was and MM recounts a time her mum was called the n word but she herself was a minority but not treated as one until the U.K.

OP posts:
ChardonnaysBeastlyCat · 08/12/2022 14:09

One thing that I noticed and how they all talk about how bad the British press is, but most of the sound snippets they play are from American sources. Lots of the covers they show are American as well.

Serenster · 08/12/2022 14:10

Roussette · 08/12/2022 13:53

Harry said he wanted a more peaceful life (Feb 2020 speech: “But I hope that helps you understand what it had to come to, that I would step my family back from all I have ever known,to take a step forward into what I hope can be a more peaceful life”) in the context of the media intrusion they faced.

They also said in their official statement after Megxit was eventually hammered out that they wanted to remove the public interest justification for press intrusion. I.e. if they live as private citizens, there’s no justification for press intrusion.

So on leaving the UK they made their intentions clear - a peaceful life away from public scrutiny.

clyspa · 08/12/2022 14:11

She didn't think race played a part (indeed, nor should it) but they use a US panel show clip of them taking the piss out of Harry and the Queen talking about MM being mixed race to illustrate this

OP posts:
diddl · 08/12/2022 14:11

I have just read all of your posts Op-fabulous.

Something I wonder about Chelsy & Cressida-they have always said that they didn't want life in the public eye.

But of course that could just be what they say & not the truth.

Cressida I think has hinted that he didn't treat her well.

But then why would they have had to have lived their lives publicly?

Especially with Chelsy!

Puzzledandpissedoff · 08/12/2022 14:11

Just who films themselves all the time? Why?

Well, plenty of people have family films, but to do it at this level might suggest someone who plans to sell the footage later?

FWIW I'm another who never believed Meghan had the least intention of staying in the UK and that this was all "banked" for later, but I'm very clear that's a "belief" and not a "know"

OkilyDoke · 08/12/2022 14:12

Currently watching it. Episode 3 seems to be about how awful Britain is.

clyspa · 08/12/2022 14:14

Harry saying official line was we make no comment

Then he says people in the family were saying their wives had similar treatment and had to cope like a rite of passage so why did Harry expect different treatment - footage is of a number of wives - Diana, fergie - so unclear who said this unless he's inferring Charles and Andrew?

Well it's how Britain came about. So if that awful then yes it's about how awful Britain is. Just because history can make us uncomfortable doesn't mean we shouldn't be shown it.

JR - I'll bite

It's mad because what makes it so? What makes someone universally liked when they are very private and not giving anything much away or doing anything particularly - that's what's mad for me - it's natural and without any pr or effort of such kind needed

We need a Harry and Meghan documentary to show us how awful Britain is?
I don't understand.
