It's landed - 3 episodes with what I assume is 3 next week.

Episode 2 - they are driving and concerned about paps but honestly they seem to be hoping for some

Hoping because they are being filmed talking about how they need detours etc because of paps so if there's no paps then....

I wish the media would just refuse to print anything and see if that made things better - now I think it's become a self fulfilling thing - complain about the media which gives media something to say about them and on it goes

Sure they can make stuff up but do they care what x from Luton thinks?

If they were chased by 'paps' how come they had to use footage of other people in the trailer?

There's an agreement with the press that royals are not photographed 'off duty' and it mostly holds. They're making stuff up because she is obsessed with being the new Diana. The media environment is totally different now, and besides, Meghan is no Diana.

clyspa · 08/12/2022 13:36

It's fair point that social media is a new thing from Diana's day / it's not even the story it's the comments granted but I still feel these two do feed it to an extent

Then it goes beyond a story and people's feelings about it and it's about societal things like race relations

Ultimately you have to not participate or be really liked .....

It doesn’t sound worth watching - defo not for three hours ! Unless you’re a fan I suppose

ArcaneWireless · 08/12/2022 13:37

Au contraire.

There are similarities with Diana. I suspect not the ones she thinks.

LondonWolf · 08/12/2022 13:39

So in short, they were filming these schmaltzy videos almost from day one? They never intended to make it work.

clyspa · 08/12/2022 13:39

It's the hunter vs the prey / lots of Diana imagery

It's wrong / there's no two ways about it but I'd be interested how much they read and let it seep into their conscious / I would just not read it

Im naive perhaps

ChardonnaysBeastlyCat · 08/12/2022 13:40

All these photos of supposedly private moments?

Who takes those photos? Who films those "private" moments?

Very odd. Why have they been filming themselves for years? Why are they moaning about the paparazzi when they are now selling their own privacy?

Whippet · 08/12/2022 13:42

The comments about the UK press pool just show her ignorance really. The system of access to royals for a few photos, by a limited number of journalists/ royals, was put in place PRECISELY to avoid the raging media masses other celebs face. The fact that Netflix have had to use footage from non-royal events shows that it works.

I think at some point you become too famous to not read about references to yourself no matter what you're reading like I remember JK Rowling saying that she eschewed media at one point because there was so much about her and Harry Potter but she was like I can read the sports pages about wimbledon, right and there was a reference to one of the players hitting a ball like a bludger in quidditch. Theres a big difference between that and seeking out stories about yourself, especially if you know they'll be a negative, at some point that becomes self flagellation

TheFairyCaravan · 08/12/2022 13:43

FancyFran · 08/12/2022 12:32

I have watched all three episodes. I don't read newspapers in the week so hadn't seen the vulgar statements prior to their marriage. Filthy language, classiest comments, all written by white people. I would have run a bloody mile. I think people who say anyone should have put up and shut up is nuts. I will never read The Daily Fail again. There is nothing so far in this documentary to concern the RF. No one is named except Princess Michael of Kent. She wore a Blackamoore broach to a party, I'd be offended too.
Wether H & M are doing this for the dosh or because they are fed up with story after story about them, they have a right to say I think certain people are racist. I am white, my husband black. We have dc who are now grown up. Their experience is variable. Old money usually fine, new dosh or certin countries horrid.
I wouldn't want to join the firm for all the hats, jewellery or entertaining.
The duchess won't go quietly, the footage shows she has been 'out there' since age 11. The USA has had an actor president and a fair few borderline nutters. Is she a worse option? Ah, she's bi racial and a woman. I know who I would prefer however they need some deep pockets for that! I shall watch the rest and you only really see a glimpse of Archie.

Well said. I’d have ran a mile and more too.

I think the whole thing shows up that the press are absolute vultures and the RF are worse. How they could sit back and watch all those things be written about Meghan, or all the women who’ve gone before but without the race element because it’s a “rite of passage, and done absolutely nothing is beyond me. Good luck Princess Charlotte because unless something changes she’s going to need it.

But who was 'hunting' them?

Like I say, British 'paps' do not harass royals these days. In fact, social media and the internet have meant that paps are much less of a thing in general.

They, particularly she, may have got some nasty coverage in the press but unlike Kate and previous girlfriends of Harry, she was never physically harassed. At least not in Britain.

Exactly. Its just so weird that one of their main arguments is privacy and yet they are now happily releasing videos and pictures of private family moments which go far more personal than any pap picture I've ever.

clyspa · 08/12/2022 13:44

So Doria is great - isn't that mad that everyone adores her effortlessly?

Now it's all happy headlines and happy American friends

It’s not privacy they want though. It’s secrecy and control. They need publicity to make money. They just want it on their own terms, which just ends up making them look hypocritical

Puzzledandpissedoff · 08/12/2022 13:46

But you do NOT know how their relationship was before (Thomas) was supposedly cancelled?! We have no idea at all

With the caveat that noone knows everything about someone else's relationships, she was still sending gushing fathers day messages to him in 2016, and that's the year she met Harry

So it seems not unreasonable to suppose that something in her "new life" provided a catalyst for the split, and whether that's that he "just didn't fit the image" we'll probably never know

clyspa · 08/12/2022 13:47

The fairy - Harry explained in episode 1 / their line is do not feed it/do not respond

OP posts:
Herewegoagain84 · 08/12/2022 13:49

Watched it really briefly. I think he looks worried about what he’s saying / whether it’s the right thing - constantly looks to her face for her reaction (eg when he recounted the second date when she was late)…

clyspa · 08/12/2022 13:51

Shes philanthropic, already has an identity carved out, strong person etc

I think that was prob too true in that all of them including MM and Harry thought she was all set and ready to go day 1

But this is her supported saying all this so at that time would they have supported the creaky old RF telling her how to be?

Well... it's not going to be Charlotte is it? She will always be protected. Much like William is.

It's going to be George and Louis' wives that have to endure the rite of passage.

MaulPerton · 08/12/2022 13:51

Garbus has done a number on her. That clip where she mocks her husband. Goodness. Another The Cut?

Meghan, Doris and Thomas spent Thanksgiving 2016 all together in a luxurious mansion that Harry had arranged to borrow for them. She posted about that on Instagram too.

They never said they wanted privacy.

If i burst into your home by kicking the door down. That's invading your privacy.

If you decide you want me to come round, invite me, open the door and welcome me. That isn't.

clyspa · 08/12/2022 13:55

Then in Toronto she goes to get flowers and there's 9-10 paps (we can't see) surrounding her car (we can't see)

She says she was being pleasant but H says don't speak to them the U.K. media says you love the attention

So here's my first thought - h is giving her advice and I think he's wrong / say hi, go home end of. Bring surly or seeming to be upset does what?

Not saying anyone should be taking her pic but we've just talked about how they knew this would be a thing so....can you have it both ways? You can not be royal and leave a private life however

Was that the part where he is asked what position he was in when he proposed and he says “ downward dog “ and she says “ see he is funny “ ?

I thought that was quite patronizing of her , like “ see what my little pet can do “ type thing … I thought it was a brief second where her true self showed through.

The rest of the episodes were excruciating to watch , MM is an actress through and through.

Maireas · 08/12/2022 13:56

I've been looking at the pictures online - some are very intimate. The proposal, him looking at her from his pillow, them kissing etc. It's proper Hallmark stuff.
