It's landed - 3 episodes with what I assume is 3 next week.

Those headlines were not from the British press. Similar ones were shown on Oprah and were from these vile fascist rags or social media. I'm not defending the tabloids but we have to be honest about what headlines were actually printed in the mainstream media.

clyspa · 08/12/2022 13:21

Summary:

nothing we don't know just a bit more detail/photos

I think heavy foreshadowing

I think they love each other but then they have to now

They do have a lovely family and home

Not sure why this all couldn't have been done in about 20 mins really and imagine anyone looking for more to both like or dislike about them will be disappointed

Wether H & M are doing this for the dosh or because they are fed up with story after story about them, they have a right to say I think certain people are racist.

The same Harry who dressed as a Nazi for fun, was filmed calling a fellow soldier a p* and saying another looked like a 'raghead'.

He's no better, the hyocrite.

Maireas · 08/12/2022 13:22

IcedPurple · 08/12/2022 13:19

Some awful headlines like he's a race traitor she's a cunt

Headlines? From which publications?

The Stormer and similar neo Nazi vile rags. Shudder.

ArcaneWireless · 08/12/2022 13:22

I doubt those headlines were from a British publication.

So why not call that country out instead of the sweeping generalisation that only Britain is bad?

clyspa · 08/12/2022 13:23

I couldn't tell the headlines / the race traitor one looked like an online thingy (prob some dumb arse supremacy nut job grp)

Personally I think the Royal children should be kept put of the public eye until they're 18 and can give consent. Do we need to see a photo of Charlotte etc?

One of the more ardent posters on here (who uses every opportunity to criticise every other royal bar these two) says that the royal children are fair game.

And basically if they don’t like being chased by photographers - even in their down time - then they should just stay in the confines of their house.

It was the one thing that was good about these two. But with their truth and exclusive pictures and a photographer following them about? It isn’t about protecting their family unit.

Not any more.

Ding ding ding ding ding 💰 💰 💰 🪙 🪙 🪙 💵 💵 💵

I've only watched the first episode but from what I've seen, I don't see see enough Archie and Lillibet to think they're being exploited. I think George, Charlotte and Louis are as they're instantly recognisable

RobinStrike · 08/12/2022 13:24

It's interesting, they are framing all of this through the lens of racism, yet they both say it was cultural when you listen to their words. Harry saying it's because she was American and especially that she was an actress. Meghan saying she had no concept of the curtseying and that Brits weren't big on hugging. Lots of their comments were about the cultural differences you would find between Brits and people from the US, and especially the Royals. Yet they were claiming that the family and the palace staff were racist. It's been suggested that attitude of Meghan to her staff compared with other royals and the claims of bullying against her are again in part the differences between how Americans speak to staff and what is acceptable there and what is acceptable here. I'm not convinced on that one but it has been said.

clyspa · 08/12/2022 13:26

Rocky / the wales children are older and closer to the throne

There is no need for the Sussex children to need media 'training' which I think William and Catherine are preparing them for

I think one good thing to come out of all this is a re-negotiation with the media and thought about what 'spares' so with their lives and also how to bring new people in although I still feel Harry expecting the Queen or William to look after his wife was unreasonable

Excellent post. I agree wholeheartedly. MM had been campaigning for causes that mattered to her long before PH came on the scene. I think the relationship gave him purpose from day one, it gave her racist headlines.

I'd have run a mile too!

@FancyFran @JRHartley72

Couldn't have put it better.

I don't understand why people are bothered that M&H have chosen to tell their story. Everyone keeps asking why they can't go away quietly, conveniently forgetting that even though M&H left the country, the TABLOIDS have continued to run stories about them with opinions from all sorts of questionable "royal experts" and "palace sources".

The media and Tabloids in particular, continue to run these stories because as i see here on mum's net, many people want to read/rant/ pontificate about them.

I'm glad they left. It takes guts to go against tradition and societal expectations.

Kudos to them

LondonWolf · 08/12/2022 13:26

See my comment above, they are obsessed with race in America. They bring that obsession everywhere.

As a race based country (and one founded by racists) they are in the belly of the beast.

@RLScott your posts are very interesting. I don't believe those attitudes translate to the UK, though some seem extremely invested in trying it convince us all that they do and I fear that in a few years the majority will believe it!

Jason Knauf, the staff member who 'blew the whistle' on Meghan's bullying, is himself American.

Yes, interesting if they are going with the historic, colonialism take on the UK, but ignoring the historic, wipe out indigenous peoples, an economy based on slavery, modern imperialist attitudes take on the USA.

Neither has a monopoly on virtue when it comes to race or imperialism!

DingDangMerrily · 08/12/2022 13:31

The biggest thing to strike me about the first episode was her cutting roses in the garden amd causally saying, yes both children are asleep. The implication is that she is a normal mum, running round after two children with no nannies etc. Sure, you are really relatable 😩

WeWereInParis · 08/12/2022 13:31

Meghan makes an interesting comment in episode 2. She talks about how, because she didn’t know the rules/protocol, she was able to just be herself and she gives the example of a time when William and Kate came over for dinner and she (Meghan) was in jeans, and she talks about how the public formality continues in private. She tells this story with a tone of how unaware of protocol she was and the implication is that jeans were NOT OK for seeing W&K. Which I find odd for two reasons - one, if it really wasn’t ok, why didn’t Harry mention it. If DH knew I was dressed incorrectly for an occasion I’d be annoyed if he left me to it, plus surely she could see what Harry was wearing and judged the formality from that. And two, we’ve seen Kate wear jeans plenty of times, I doubt she’ll have turned up for dinner in a tiara and a ball gown!

Maireas · 08/12/2022 13:32

Yes, but @Sagharbor , if you're going to do interviews, reveal stuff in magazines and podcasts and a Netflix series about your life, surely you're going to expect comments?

LondonWolf · 08/12/2022 13:32

She adds gravitas to it, because the press coverage hurt her too and she's finally getting her say. Watching the doc I could totally see where PH and MM are coming from when they complained about the rabid and racially motivated press coverage after their relationship was revealed. Headline after headline – shown on the doc – gleefully baiting that she was straight out of Compton, that her mother lived in a gang neighbourhood, her house was shabby and shot up, etc. Those reports were false and highly offensive and Doria was hurt by them.

I believe the "straight out of Compton" headline was originally the work of an American journalist in LA. Though of course it should never have run. In fact many of the offensive headlines directed at M were run by American and Australian publications, no less offensive but important to know when assessing the racist tendencies of various countries.

Sigma33 · 08/12/2022 13:32

From the BBC coverage:
Meghan talks about her naivety about the media in the early days, and how, in some ways, it was a good thing, because she could "authentically be myself".

As opposed to authentically be someone else 😁

clyspa · 08/12/2022 13:33

Episode 2 - they are driving and concerned about paps but honestly they seem to be hoping for some

Hoping because they are being filmed talking about how they need detours etc because of paps so if there's no paps then....

I wish the media would just refuse to print anything and see if that made things better - now I think it's become a self fulfilling thing - complain about the media which gives media something to say about them and on it goes

Sure they can make stuff up but do they care what x from Luton thinks?

I still don't think that children should be paraded around like that. I also it should be easier for them to opt out of Royal life. It feels like The Truman show.

LondonWolf · 08/12/2022 13:34

Because nobody cares about her family and childhood.

Harry's family is where the money is.

And that is why I don't think she will ever leave him.

ADifferentKindofChristmas · 08/12/2022 13:34

So in brief plenty about racism but yet again not a single peep about classism and privilege.

Why are they not shouting about that from the rooftops about that if we are all supposed to be equal?

They sicken me.

Sagharbor · 08/12/2022 13:34

notangelinajolie · 08/12/2022 12:20

I am actually gob smacked at the hypocrisy. How is it ok to sell your soul for a multi million dollar pay check yet when Megan’s father poses for some photos he is cancelled from her life like he’s committed murder.

But you do NOT know how their relationship was before he was supposedly cancelled?! We have no idea at all.

And who has sold their soul to the devil? that statement alone?!

Who is the devil, the tabloids? the public? or the RF for being willing to protect Andrew and pay millions to his accuser while throwing M&H under the bus?

We forget, these are people, just trying to make their way like the rest of us.

Maireas · 08/12/2022 13:34

@WeWereInParis I think it was about the hug. Meghan was showing how different she is to Kate "I'm a hugger!"
