Harry and Meghan -- Why I dislike them BOTH

PipinwasAuntieMabelsdog · 03/12/2022 23:02

I keep seeing threads that say everyone who dislikes the Sussexs is based on some form of racism and I wanted to put my view across. I will set the parameters of my points:

  1. Meghan absolutely did receive racist coverage from sections of the British media.
  1. I believe that there were threats to their safety by far right loons.
  2. I believe they were both unhappy as working members of the RF

However...

I still find them both very disingenuous. They highlight and speak up against the racism of others, whilst failing to address Harry's previous and documented racist behaviour. As a Jew I cannot understand how Meghan can just remain silent about her husbands former mistakes. This makes her seem untrustworthy to me and seems like she will put up with anything for money and cache, whilst arguing (rightly) that racism is totally unacceptable. He keeps saying others need to learn and he is right, but he should acknowledge that he too needed to learn, acknowledge the support needed to help others learn and offer that support to others (including his own family, if needed).

Their attitude towards the public also seems 'off' and ungrateful to me and they seem to collocate the press and the public as the same thing. There is a lot of footage of the public support for them before, during and after their wedding. Yet, apparently, they did not want the big public wedding and the 'UK' was racist towards them. Harry particularly understands the 'deal' between the monarchy and the public and ought to have explained this to Meghan, the comments re the wedding on Oprah came across as quite spiteful and tone deaf. Almost like, 'we suffered through the big wedding for the plebs.' Ditto all the strange behaviour around Archie's birth. They could have followed the Tindall's approach if they wanted to avoid press intrusion.

During financial pressures around the world they are still complaining and not acknowledging their wealth and privilege, whilst claiming to give voice to the needs of those living in poverty and suffering. The Africa interview was a prime example for both of them. It just all comes together to make them feel untrustworthy to me, and makes me dislike them. I do not wish them any ill, but I wish they would acknowledge their fortune and live private, useful lives.

I read her post completely differently, so disagree with you entirely.

Partyandbullshit · 21/04/2023 12:54

Where the above poster accused Meghan of being unintelligent.

The statement was unintelligent. Not Meghan.

If you want posters like me to take you seriously and not make assumptions about you based on your posts, you shouldn’t make mistakes like this. It’s difficult not to assume your purpose here is to rabble rouse or hector, rather than discuss or chat, when you misquote, or misconstrue, or misinterpret, or relay incorrectly (or whatever).

You need to get your facts straight if you want to be taken seriously.

You are welcome to disagree. It's an anonymous forum.
I was pointing out that nobody was going to waste their ttime in the way you were expecting. Smile

Seriously @jeffgoldblum your interjections are getting a bit odd. You’re not engaged in this discussion but you just come in to these threads to support someone who just a few pages ago called a black poster an ‘angry woman’. Brave. Please. It’s deliberately inflammatory and you know it.

I honestly don’t care if you take me seriously or not. That comment of yours was misogynistic and I think you were way out of line with that particular comment on her retelling her experience as a biracial woman, one that several other posters here understood or experience themselves. You attacked her comments quite viscously when they’re nothing out of the ordinary for biracial people. It’s odd you think they are. I’m not here to ‘hector’ either, be careful where you go with lines like that because it looks like you’re troll hunting and I’ve been engaging here for some time.

jeffgoldblum · 21/04/2023 13:11

Just because I've been ill and haven't posted doesn't mean I haven't followed them , I will answer any post tagging me if I choose to, I have no issues with @purpledalmation , she's a longtime poster, others can make their own decisions.

@jeffgoldblum - nobody is going to waste their time with @purpledalmation - green / orange - whatever they are today.
If she believes that a child being bullied for the colour of hair is the same as being bullied for the colour of skin - good for her!
It just reinforces what we know is that many white people will just never get it and that's fine.

Pity you can't read. I said to the child involved it feels just as bad, but the racism is worse because it has a much wider remit.

But she is naturally light at times if the year and she does use spray tan, she even discussed it in an interview for goodness sake. I don’t understand what’s wrong with the photo or why you’re so upset.

Just FYI I am similarly baffled. I found the picture very interesting and thought it illustrated your point well

Good Lord. This thread has some posters with quite, um, unconventional thought processes! I think I'll go back to AIBU, it's far more sane there.

@Partyandbullshit Everyone thinks AIBU was the last word in crazy. Clearly not been on here.

@StormzyinaTCup Down the rabbit hole, backfilled with a ton of concrete, and a motorway built on top. Yep, batshit crazy as they say!

Actually am I the only one to think being able to be “race fluid” is nice? Dn can go through various hues: a lot of people settle on deciding she is Eastern European or Middle Eastern. Nephew (her db) is very pale so some people did assume either he/she was adopted according to which parent they were with. Genetics is a funny thing; studying one’s own dcs you can see all them all coming through.

debbrianna · 22/04/2023 09:24

Do people not have two to three tones of makeup? Not for contouring but based on seasons. I bet this is another type of privilege some people may not have. I say this as dark skin black woman and not even mixed race. The people see have a lot of colour changes are black celebrities, from lighting to where they have been in the season.

My dcs are mixed. I’m white British but dh is a mix of North African and Mediterranean. Therefore it’s very hard for people to pin my dcs down and they can look different in the summer to the winter. Two end up with sunkissed hair and olive skin after a few weeks in the sun. The photo of MM shared upthread made me think of ds2’s colouring in the winter. My dd loves that people can’t guess her ethnicity. She thinks it makes her exotic and interesting. I suppose it does!

It is interesting in court at the moment. You cannot twist words and try to obfuscate things in court very easily. Either Prince Harry knew nothing about phone hacking until 2019 hence only sued then. Or he knew about it from 2012 and did nothing because of a secret agreement with the press. He cannot maintain both arguments. So his two conflicting witness statements as to the reasons for being late to sue cannot both be right surely? Of course you can have two reasons for delaying litigation but it would be a bit strange not to put them both in the original witness statement.

Harry's hacking claims contained 'troubling factual inconsistencies'

Harry claimed for the first time on Tuesday that a 'secret agreement' between the Royal Family and news executives stopped him bringing hacking claims earlier.

I think he's trying as usual to shift blame onto others. Anything but take responsibility. All this talk of a secret agreement is just an attempt to make William and Charles actions fit his narrative of plotting and scheming against him and his wife. The secret agreement was simply an out of court settlement with an anonymity order which is more the norm than going to court. Harry has now blown William s anonymity out of the water and is just another shameful attempt to put William in a bad light and paint himself the victim. Catherine's phone was hacked over 150 times Harry's maybe a couple?

Yes Meghan was treated badly by the media but Catherine had 8 years and the RF did not protect her. The paparazzi called her a cunt and a slag to get a reaction from her to get a 'good' shot. They even tried to upskirt her. And then Meghan on Oprah calls Catherine a name which must have hurt and was disgusting.

Of course the phone hacking and media harassment is wrong and needs stopping but Meghan never endured the level of abuse that Diana and Catherine did so her victim narrative is nothing more than a brand motif.

Meghan blatantly and shamelessly lied in court and I suspect Harry's truth is going to be as unreliable.

I do applaud him for taking the press to task but I think this case is very shaky.

Viviennemary · 28/04/2023 11:30

Absolutely everything is always somebody else's fault according to Harry and Meghan. The press, Meghan's family, the royal family, her staff, Kate William Camilla, Charles, Meghans Dad, Meghans sister all villains compared to the saintly hard done by twosome. It gets a bit wearying..

Gothambutnotahamster · 28/04/2023 13:09

Completely agree @polkadotdalmation

Xenia · 28/04/2023 15:05

I agree (and also agree phone hacking should not have taken place of course against anyone and it was illegal). Even just this week the police have been criticised by the Information Commissioner for a n ew system that listened into 200,000 calls https://ico.org.uk/about-the-ico/media-centre/news-and-blogs/2023/04/ico-reprimands-surrey-police-and-sussex-police/

I don't know what has been said in the Hugh Grant/Prince Harry case in the last day or so but it may be that they are simply out of time without an excuse for being late

ICO reprimands Surrey Police and Sussex Police for recording more than 200,000 phone calls without people’s knowledge

The Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO) has issued a reprimand to both Surrey Police and Sussex Police, following the rollout of an app that recorded phone conversations and unlawfully captured personal data. In June 2020, the ICO became aware tha...

mixedrecycling · 28/04/2023 16:28

The thing is, he would have far more credibility if he said he accepted it at the time, because he hadn't realised the implications.

Just as he would have far more credibility if he addressed the recordings of him using the P word and rag*h by admitting he was at fault, and had learnt from them.

It could be very powerful to hear him accept responsibility and explain that he had become more aware once someone he loved experienced racism. And that he had since understood the wider ramifications of phone tapping, which has made him want to take a stand.

Sudeko · 28/04/2023 16:30

And then Meghan on Oprah calls Catherine a name which must have hurt and was disgusting.

Yes, a name which also applied to her in respect of her first marriage. She waited for just as long, possibly longer actually, for a ring from Trevor Engleson.

Gilmorehill · 28/04/2023 17:24

The fact she knew about the ‘waity Katie’ nickname contradicts her claim to have known nothing about the royal family, not that anyone believed her.

Whaeanui · 28/04/2023 17:35

Harry has addressed the slur he used in that recording ( in his book and interviews ) and he has said he has learnt more and understood more about bigotry and racism since his relationship with Meghan. One example:
In an interview ahead of its release, Harry said: "I went into this incredibly naive. I had no idea the British press were so bigoted. Hell, I was probably bigoted before the relationship with Meghan."
Interviewer Anderson Cooper asked: "You think you were bigoted before the relationship with Meghan?"
To which Harry replied: "I don't know. Put it this way, I didn't see what I now see."
