Foreign trips are such an incredible opportunity to showcase all things Brit.

She in particular can really elevate all of it.

Why wear bloody Chanel?

Maybe she likes it.

Byelaws · 01/12/2022 21:27

You cannot be for real

IcedPurple · 01/12/2022 22:35

She's owned that jacket since she was a student at St. Andrew's.

And she does usually wear British designers.

DrMarciaFieldstone · 01/12/2022 22:39

Because Chanel is nice? She can wear anything she want Ml

Jazzandblues · 01/12/2022 23:19

Save yourself the energy op. No one even noticed that they were on some tour/trip. The whole family is a sinking ship doubt any designer cares about being worn by Kate either .

NippyWoowoo · 01/12/2022 23:21

Who is the DoC?

Jazzandblues · 01/12/2022 23:30

Duchess of Cambridge.

antelopevalley · 01/12/2022 23:52

Since Diana, none of them really showcase new designers, except for small items like a pair of earrings. It is a shame. Diana was really good at promoting lesser-known designers, but she was also interested in fashion.

I am for real.

I think there is a case to be made that they promote British made design. We have some incredible talent in this country, and showcased by them would give a massive boost.

Sophie too by the way - that Erdem dress yesterday is an oppotunity missed. They represent us - why not promote our industries?

In private wear all the Chanel you want.

You may guess that I follow of fashion!

Maybe, and bare with me here; it’s because she wanted to? Because she likes it? Because she chose what to wear?

IDidntKnowYouHadDandruffIDont · 02/12/2022 13:31

She’s not the DoC now, she’s the PoW!

Justasec321 · 02/12/2022 13:34

A quick google brought up 20 bag companies that design and make in Britan. Family companies. All over the country. Beautiful designs.

Same with shoes, boots and of course the a to z of clothes. The Queen ALWAYS wore British.

Write her a stern letter as someone who follows fashion and remind her of her responsibilities.

And Kate wears a lot of vintage. Which given she’s promoting an environmental prize, is pretty apt.

She isn't the Queen?

ChangedmynameagainforChristmas · 02/12/2022 13:42

I think I agree. If she is representing everything about Britain then wear something representative ! She is not on holiday. It is a working visit surely to promote Britain

She isn't the Queen?

The Queen understood her role better.

Brieeeeeeeee · 02/12/2022 13:44

To give this dull discussion the benefit of the doubt, I think there probably is an argument that the British royal family should probably showcase British designers, but I was under the impression that they often did. I remember a fuss about who would design her wedding dress and whether they would be British.

for something like this though it’s not particularly relevant, is it? She’d be picked apart in the press and on here whatever she wore.

Liz basically wore a uniform.

walnutmarzipan · 02/12/2022 13:39

This

But why?

It is an official tour.

Repesenting us and all things us.

Why wear French fashion?

It makes no sense for a British royal to confirm the global status of a brand like Chanel.

Made in Britan, especially after Brexit should be foremost.

OP posts:
antelopevalley · 02/12/2022 13:47

Picked apart? You mean some people would like what she wore and some would not.
Yes that will always happen, because we are past the days of everyone saying doesn't she look wonderful, whatever they privately think. That is real life.
But policies such as using British designers are about more than personal tastes in clothes. It is about understanding your role.

softpilllow · 02/12/2022 13:47

The Queen understood her role better.

The Queens role was different.

They are calling it a visit as it is only three days, not a tour.
