Foreign trips are such an incredible opportunity to showcase all things Brit.

She in particular can really elevate all of it.

Why wear bloody Chanel?

I agree. 'Because she likes it' isn't good enough. She has a job to do, and that job is to promote Britain and British talent.

ferneytorro · 02/12/2022 13:50

I saw her with a Mulberry handbag - is that not British? Or are you saying she has to exclusively wear British even if it's something she already owns?

antelopevalley · 02/12/2022 13:51

She can wear whatever she wants when not "working".

stuntbubbles · 02/12/2022 13:55

Justasec321 · 02/12/2022 13:46

But why?

It is an official tour.

Repesenting us and all things us.

Why wear French fashion?

It makes no sense for a British royal to confirm the global status of a brand like Chanel.

Made in Britan, especially after Brexit should be foremost.

She was also wearing British earrings, an American necklace, and Italian heels. Maybe she’s promoting global relations?

Save yourself the energy op. No one even noticed that they were on some tour/trip. The whole family is a sinking ship doubt any designer cares about being worn by Kate either .

Clearly some of us noticed or we wouldn't have commented here. 🤔

I agree with you op. She should wear British. The only exception being if she wears a local designer in a poorer country. I think she's made a mistake.

MarshaMelrose · 02/12/2022 13:56

😂 Very good.

Justasec321 · 02/12/2022 13:58

All right then - a visit!

People like to sneer at the fashion industry but it employes a huge amount of people in the UK and brings in a lot of revenue.

Part of the "branding" of countries like Italy and France is their creative production of quality goods - clothing, coffee makers (!), cars, food etc. It ramps up the image of the country. We HAVE the designers (bags, shoes, clothes, cashmers the works).

Getting it visible is the hard part. Enter the beautiful PoW.....match made in heaven.

When on official duty?

Yes I am saying that.

In private she can wear waht she likes obviously.

A few days in Boston? It should not be a chore to wear exclusively British,

She’s worn Burberry, Mulberry, Alexander McQueen and Shyla on the visit; maybe more as lots of the outfits have yet to be identified. Tbh head-to-toe British would be a bit naff and old-school royal – mixing it up with vintage and other designers, including some US ones since that’s where she’s visiting, is cooler and more modern.

PipinwasAuntieMabelsdog · 02/12/2022 14:08

Talk about nit picking. She wore Emillia Wickstead just the other week, wears McQueen an awful lot, barbour, boden, LKB, Jigsaw, the Fold etc. MM rarely wore British and chose a French house for her wedding gown. Did you complain about that, @Justasec321 ?

McQueen is no longer British.

And yes, I agree. An American design as a nod to her hosts is a good idea.

But - head to toe British fashion would not be naff. There are designers out there who produce exquisite and incredibly diverse work.

Promote them.

Old school or ew school does not matter. We are post Brexit and need the visibility.

Chanel and Mouret definately don't.

Seriously.

Seraphine is based in Britain too, she dresses the DC in British brands a lot too.

SB is a brit, you gonk! Hmm Most design houses are owned by groups these days. Just be honest and admit that you dislike the POW.

Made in Britan, especially after Brexit should be foremost.

It's not really an 'official tour' representing the United Kingdom.

It's a 3 day visit to Boston for the Earthshot awards. A vintage jacket, which was privately paid for when Kate was a student, seems quite in theme.

I agree that royals should promote British fashion but Kate does this most of the time. This is just nitpicking.

I am talking about this royal visit that is making headlines today.

I am not nit picking.

Front lage news today is Mouret and a Chanel bag.

She is a BRITISH royal on offical BRITISH duty and every headline is about her FRENCH clothes and bag.

The vintage Chanel jacket also got major coverage, it was everywhere – which further promotes Kate as a fashion icon, meaning when she does do head-to-toe British for official functions, it carries more weight. Her “job” is to look good and be famous, and she did that.

If she were on the cover of UK Vogue wearing a French designer, you might have a point. But she was at a low-stakes unofficial event and went with the environmental theme, which is what she’s there to promote.

antelopevalley · 02/12/2022 14:15

Kate does not promote relatively unknown British designers. Diana did use to.
It is a relatively minor issue in comparison to many issues about the Royal Family. But it does show that even on minor issues they can not get it right.

antelopevalley · 02/12/2022 14:17

@stun Chanel is a very well-known brand. It does not need promotion. It would be better to promote relatively unknown British designers.

PipinwasAuntieMabelsdog · 02/12/2022 14:17

@Justasec321 you haven't answered the question re MM and yes you are nitpicking. Find a British made designer brand that Kate has not worn. you won't she wears them routinely, and interestingly so does her sister

PipinwasAuntieMabelsdog · 02/12/2022 14:22

Katherine Hooker is another Brit favourite of Kate's. How many of your clothes are British made OP? If it's so important to you?

SB is a brit, you gonk! Hmm Most design houses are owned by groups these days. Just be honest and admit that you dislike the POW.

Usually when someone is failing to argue the point they resort to insults.

SB is British BUT the company she designs for is not. The profits do not go into British society.

That most brands are owned by groups these days is exactly my point.

We have, in this country, fantastic designers who make there clothes HERE, employ people HERE, pay tax HERE, fully participate in OUR economy. It is hard for them to compete with groups. They could if highlighted by highly visible women - the PoW has to be the top right?

Why insult me if I make the case that our future Queen should elevate them, wear them, promote them?

It is not a case of liking or disiking.

Hers is a public role.

Unless you think Chanel could do with the PR?

OP posts:
StaunchMomma · 02/12/2022 14:24

Maybe to allow her to have just a teeny bit of agency in her life?

Expecting people to justify their choice of clothing is a massive overstep, IMO.
