Foreign trips are such an incredible opportunity to showcase all things Brit.

She in particular can really elevate all of it.

Why wear bloody Chanel?

Is it just me that doesn’t care what she wears? I think she looks nice, she has a style that suits her; but I would never buy anything she wears as it’s miles away from my style/my life.

I think she stunning and wears clothers very well.

I also think she is very respectful of her role and does not dress for attention.

Erdem is UK based. So it counts

And while AM is owned internationally SB is one of the top couple of female Uk designers so I think it’s reasonable to wear her too - her work speaks to British creativity.

Fashion is a very international business.

SB is definately one of our top talenst but not our only one.

and Fashion is a very international business - didn't we vote to stop being so international? Didn't we vote to bring iot all back on shore again?

We didn’t all vote for that, no.

You might have. I didn't.

I agree OP. 100%

I didn't either actually! By WE I mean the country!

I am not at all sucessful in explaining myself!

It just seems that we as a country are struggling. Across all sectors. We have Covid consequences, Brexit consequences, war in Ukraine, Russia - the lot. We are trying to get trade deals, to figure out our post Brexit world. All hands need to be on deck.

And part of that would be (to me) promoting all things British by high profile public figures as much as possible and as often as possible especially when abroad!

And if you think about it - often when the anti royals state their claim the answer is "they bring in millions in tourisim". That can surely translate to clothing industry.

You’ll be very pleased to see she’s wearing an Emilia Wickstead dress and carrying a Mulberry bag for her trip to Harvard today, OP.

This is true Math but it is also hair splitting in a way. If she was not the PoW she would not be featured on any papers right?

Nobody really reads papers any more. In any case, there are lots of people in the papers who are not the PoW.

What coverage there is is online, and you would have to seek it out. If you did, you would find headlines like
'Prince William and Kate make first US trip in eight years as racism controversy simmers back home' - this from CNN.

Americans are not that interested in the RF per se, but they are interested in problems in the RF. People in Boston have turned out to see them, certainly. But the details about British fashion, etc, are really only of interest in the UK.

Thank God, that’s Covid, Brexit and Russia solved in one outfit.

VollywoodHampires · 02/12/2022 18:26

They’re there to award an environmental prize, therefore rewearing clothing is totally appropriate.

LadyEloise1 · 02/12/2022 19:39

I wondered that too @Justasec321,
I mentioned the fact that I had not seen her with a Chanel bag before on the Royal Fashion thread on Mumsnet but apparently there are photos of her with it in the past so a "rewear" 🙄
I do love a Chanel handbag but it was a great opportunity to show case a British designed or British made bag.
She could have had a De Mellier New York bag in the mini version from a UK company. I lust after it Blush
I'm neither British or French.
I'm Irish and when our First Lady and our former female Presidents are / were on State and semi state visits at home and abroad they try and showcase Irish designed and made ( if possible) outfits/ accessories.
I see Kate wore UK items today.

@barskits and it got me thinking.... And when you were thinking, did you, at any point, wonder where Prince William gets his suits, ties, shirts and shoes from?

I do actually Barskits. It drives me bananas that they never give out that detail about any of the men in the famil. The sexisim is in the so naked. The women are used as shields in some sense - the break down of cost and what designer every.single.time.

But that is a different thread....

Double standards, isn't it? I've always thought that about the British media. This obsession with what women in the public eye are wearing, and (all too frequently) where they have made a faux-pas.

With the almost sole exception of David Beckham, male sartorial choices never get picked apart, do they?

whataboutya · 02/12/2022 22:28

That green dress!! Omg she looked amazing
