Awful story just broken on twitter about horrendous racist questioning from Lady Hussey to Ngozi Fulani from Sister Space at yesterdays VAWG event.

Lady Hussey has resigned.

Yes so true. You can then bet LSH would have been all flustered and Ngozi would have been hit with that classic insult to a black woman of ‘being aggressive’.

I am glad at least if that is happening. But the site is over run by them. Seriously considering deregistering.

I'm pretty sure MNHQ can block IP addresses, which would also block reregistering, so why don't they?

See I’m not sure they are. I’ve reported some really shitty comments and been told ‘why don’t you challenge them name’? So I think they pick and choose.

You’ve also got the issue that a lot of the white middle class women policing forums wouldn’t know a micro aggression if it slapped them in the face.

What book would that be then? Because I offend people inadvertently (look down thread for proof) and I'd like to be educated in their point of view so as not to cause offence. At least when I don't mean to. And I daresay Lady H is the same - she did not mean to cause offence. Perhaps she should read this book also.

@Namechangedforthisonetoday That is what I had seen happening before. And the peace and love comment from MNHQ on a thread with lots of racism just made me wonder if they themselves are a bit clueless about racism.

Racists aren’t being banned. MN knows their core fan base. There’s lip service paid to diversity, but it’s all ultimately meaningless.

Well yes, and it has happened to me as an adult, and I couldn't give a fig, either then or now. But I'd never do it to anyone else. Because I wouldn't want to offend them.

Are you unable to use Google for some reason? There's quite a lot of books out there on how to be anti-racist. You just have to search for them. But then I guess you'd have to want to not be a racist so...

@antelopevalley Over the last few days, it’s honestly started to feel like that. Like we should just bugger off for the sake of our mental health and let them have a racist love in.

Well, you won't stop racism by telling people to STFU. Education is what is needed, not insults.

See this is the tip of the wedge of people not believing in racism. The thread is not about someone “being offended”, it’s about someone being the victim of racism and whether it’s dog whistle or overt or whether people just don’t believe in racism.

Again, on a thread about someone being burgled, would you say the thread is about someone being “offended” about a burglar breaking in to their house?

You have been given a list of books to read, but ignored it. You don’t want education.

You want victims of racism to ‘have a quiet word’ in the ear of racists. Anything that’s been said to you after that whopper was richly deserved.
