The Queen died from...in The Times today

In TT today, Dr Porter discusses what is in the latest biography of the Queen (by Giles B.)

Dr P seems to agree with GB that the Queen had bone cancer. He doesn't say so in so many words but he does bullet-point the signs (of which she appears to have had a number.)

I'm a Royalist (with some exceptions, of course) and feel we are being 'cheated' by (perhaps) having the reason for her death being concealed.
She was well loved and admired by millions.
Isn't the least we are owed an honest account?

I am sure everyone could see that she didn't simply die of 'old age' (in so much as anyone in their late 90s does, to a degree.) The pain she was suffering, the weight loss, the circulation problems evident in her calves (varicose ulcers for years) and her hands.

It's as if we are being taken for fools and I wonder how, legally, her dr is allowed to complete the death cert inaccurately?

My late father had 3 conditions listed on his DC, including dementia, but he'd had two other conditions (major organ deterioration) for many years as well.
Considering he was 95, then 'old age' may have covered it but it wasn't just that.

What is the point of the Palace not being honest?

In case you’ve forgotten, the Queen didn’t die in England. And as this thread is about the Queen’s cause of death, I think that is what most posters are responding to.

As I said to a previous poster, take your concerns up with the Doctor if you believe they have not been truthful on the death certificate.

I suspect you won’t. But, should you decide to, I’m sure we would love to hear their response.

Or wait for GB’s book to appear in your stocking given that some think he knows better than her doctor.

Novella4 · 02/12/2022 11:38

I wondered if 'don't care ' would be misinterpreted

Ok - I'm not interested in exactly what sequence of illness killed a 96 year old- is that clearer for you ?

I am interested in the fact that royal death certs are secret unlike the death certs of every other last one of us
I'm interested that the queens cert is partial and that this partial cert says old age . Just as it was 'mentioned' that Philip also died of old age despite having a heart op the week before

Is that clear enough ?

It's all part of the arcane exceptionalism surrounding the monarchy . It's the least important part of being above the law I agree . I'd far rather the Windsors / Mountbattens / Gothaw whatever their real name is were subject to the law - just as the rest of us are

Too much to ask ??

ArcaneWireless · 02/12/2022 11:40

I think you and others have been perfectly clear….

ArcaneWireless · 02/12/2022 11:48

And I’m sure those concerned can decide for themselves whether or not the above is a partial response.

Blossomtoes · 02/12/2022 12:18

And what difference would it make to you @Novella4? in what way would your life be better or different?

antelopevalley · 02/12/2022 12:24

@Blossomtoes For a start we would all know that the Royal Family had to observe some of the laws that the rest of us have to follow.
It makes my life worse knowing that some people in Britain literally the same laws do not apply to them. They are legally exempt.

stuntbubbles · 02/12/2022 12:24

It would crack me up if they released the full death certificate instead of the partial, and it too just said “old age”. I think there’d be a lot of Mumsnetters expiring from “frothing”.

Just how does it make your life worse? What impact does it have apart from making you feel hard done by? How do you feel about diplomatic immunity? Does that make your life worse?

Yes diplomatic immunity being misused makes my life worse.
You seem to be of the school of get on with your life and ignore corruption, unfairness and inequality in the world. I am being totally truth full now. I think it is only pretty stupid people who can successfully take that approach to life.

I agree that corruption and misused diplomatic immunity etc should not be tolerated. However, ranting about a perfectly legal and acceptable death certificate really doesn’t come in to this category. Her doctor has followed the law when he gave a cause of death. He is the one who is medically qualified to do so. If it is not the full death certificate, so what? He has put the main cause of death as old age. How is anyone’s life improved by knowing if she had any other conditions? No one has lied or broken the law. Get over it.

This all reminds me of the ridiculous thread speculating that the Queen was not in fact in her coffin 🙄. It must be exhausting trying to find plots and conspiracy everywhere. Usually things are in fact what they appear to be at first sight. No hidden agendas

antelopevalley · 02/12/2022 12:47

@smilesy Legally everyone else in the UK has a full death certificate that is public. The Royal Family have different rules though and seem to be able to do whatever the fuck they want.

Cornettoninja · 02/12/2022 12:48

yet here you are banging on about one that isn’t.

ArcaneWireless · 02/12/2022 12:50

Let us know what the doctor says about the ‘full truth’ then.

Courage of convictions and all that.

Maybe get it published in the press and perhaps a celebrity goggleboxer’s weighty tome.

I think the doctor may have his own ideas about stupidity but will be too polite to address it. And perhaps be too busy rolling up his sleeves or holding babies.

I’ll keep a straight face if he chooses to publish and be damned on that matter though.

antelopevalley · 02/12/2022 12:53

That is what always happens on these threads. Someones tarts mocking others for wanting the same laws to apply to the Royal Family that apply to everyone else.

ArcaneWireless · 02/12/2022 13:00

I’m sure it is always happens to be an exasperated response to the same old underlying agenda that always happens to appear on these threads.

Mocking? No.

According to the Freedom of Information Act, there can be exemptions to full public disclosure. If I have read it correctly, it is when information is drawn from medical records. Presumably this would apply to the Queen as she was under the care of her doctor when she died and so did not require a post mortem. Any other details about what she may have died of would be on her medical records. It also applies to Joe Public, so no special treatment for her

antelopevalley · 02/12/2022 13:07

@smilesy Not true. No one else in Scotland can keep their full death certificate secret. It is not possible.
It is also not possible for ordinary people to stop their death certificate from being public in England.

ArcaneWireless · 02/12/2022 13:24

I’m sure the Royal legal team will have kept them right.

Unless of course some want to address their concerns with the Law Society too.

Perhaps their response can be published as well.

Not mocking.

But if some feel they are correct (even though they may or may not be legally or medically trained), I would dearly like them to challenge the relevant governing bodies if they know better.

Or they could just pontificate on MN and see nothing done with their learned opinions.

antelopevalley · 02/12/2022 13:29

My point is that the laws do not apply to the Royal Family. They can do whatever they want.

But they haven’t broken the law

ArcaneWireless · 02/12/2022 13:39

If some think the RF or others acting for them in a legal or medical capacity are currently breaking the law then report it.

I will wait patiently for those who choose to make such claims to report their findings and also get it published.

I do not think they are breaking the law.
The law does not apply to them.

antelopevalley · 02/12/2022 13:42

You do not seem to understand that the Royal Family are exempt from many laws. Laws that apply to everyone else.

ArcaneWireless · 02/12/2022 13:58

I understand agendas just fine.

If some would have the courage of their convictions to legally challenge everything they believe is wrong, then I will listen.

Until then I will choose to swat the views of those who choose to do nothing bar spout their agenda on Social Media from the comfort of their settee.
