The long awaited documentray is hitting the screen on December 8th:

What with the award in a few days and the book in January they're ramping up the game.

I think they would be happier in a much smaller house and away from publicity, but it's their choice so I hope they make the best of it and are happy.

I don't. I think they'd like a bigger house, a bigger platform and even more money.

Upshot is they have aspirations beyond their ability to fund them.

Of course they could have chosen a more minimalist path (as other former royals have successfully done) but they didn't want to. Remember they have never said they wanted privacy.

They have been very clear in wanting to select their own agenda and be able to monetise it. The problem is that beyond the royal connection there is not much substance to monetise and after the salvos of the documentary and the book I think they may well struggle to earn the kind of income they need to sustain the lifestyle they have now, never mind improving on it.

They aren't beholden to Netflix/Spotify/book deals because Charles cut them off.

They are beholden because their combined net worth of £30m plus could not fund the lavish lifestyle they desired and no longer wanted to do the royal duties that had previously financed such luxury.

He is formidable. And if you want to believe the Speaker of the House, Hoyle, go right ahead. Worst speaker there has ever been

I’d say Bercow was the most unpleasant speaker in living memory, but given your predilection for defending wildly unpopular characters while denigrating the dignified and conscientious, this probably makes sense

Ahhhh I wondered when you'd pop up, hi susan!

Novella4 · 07/12/2022 17:17

If I did it know that lots of racists hate M and H and need no prompting , I'd think that the whole hate fest in the right wing press is a very useful distraction from the fact that the country is falling apart

AutumnCrow · 07/12/2022 17:34

i couldn’t even begin to guess at their annual running costs.

Mydoghealsmyheart · 07/12/2022 17:34

What time will the episodes drop? Will it be available first in places like Australia (do they have Netflix) as they see in a new day before us? Just wondering when we’ll actually start to get an idea of the actual contents.

They didn’t need to buy such an expensive house. Ariana Grande, who is far more successful than these two, lives in the same area in a house half the price of theirs. I know he’s used to palaces but even then they only live in a section of it. They wanted the optics of living in a very grand looking house but it must cost a fortune to upkeep and they must be rattling around in it considering they have so few family or friends to fill it. He never had to think of cleaning costs, gardening costs, cheffing costs, nanny costs, utility bills before but he does now.

What?

Her latest purchase was a tear down. She paid such a low price because of it.

Puzzledandpissedoff · 07/12/2022 17:41

I just can’t get my head around that 2 months ago they were front and centre at the Queen’s state funeral and now have accepted an award for standing up to racism within that very family, it beggars belief

Actually that's a fair point, considering that by that time the Netflix thing was (presumably?) more or less complete - but then they've been to other things since making their unspecified racism claims to Oprah, so was the funeral really so very different?

It just beats me that they'd even want to attend events on behalf of an institution they clearly loathe, so I can only think they need to keep up the visuals in order to sell them

MrsThimbles · 07/12/2022 17:51

RosettaStormer · 07/12/2022 16:53

I read somewhere that their alarms keep going off .

We have security alarms at home and they keep going off. One night I looked out of my bedroom window to see what was going on and the biggest toad I have ever seen in my life was sitting in the garden staring straight at me as If to say, what’s wrong with you, you silly bugger!! It was for some reason terrifying and I don’t scare easily which is why I like to sit and look at absolutely huge camel spiders coming over the garden wall at night looking for something to drink in the garden.

The next time they go off I’m ignoring them and if my son who’s severely autistic has decided to go and look for a KFC in the middle of the night he can just get on with it.

I believe that such was the upset everyone was feeling at the time that people just fell in with the plans that had been in place for years.

I know there are things I’d do differently if I could turn back the clock to when I was burying my mum.

It really is all water under the bridge and I’m pretty sure Harry loved the Queen and she loved him.

Well let’s see what happens if they are invited to the coronation, if the royal family is racist as they claim, then if they have a shred of integrity they should refuse the invitation, how on earth could they rock up showing their support and condoning a racist institution?

CathyorClaire · 07/12/2022 20:12

They bought it cut price from a Russian oligarch who was alleged to have threatened to kill his wife. This 2020 article estimates their monthly outgoings on mortgage, insurance and rent on Frogmore at £68k and that's without staff costs.

No wonder they're snatching the hands off anyone who holds a fistfull of dollars out to them

CathyorClaire · 07/12/2022 20:19

In other news the royals apparently have a team war gaming responses to a dirty laundry list comprised of up to 100 potential allegations.

I've seen reports to this effect and that they are eyeing up property in a gated community. Who don't want them.

Harry did look a bit embarrassed. I’d have terrible imposter syndrome if I were them.

miri1985 · 07/12/2022 20:34

Roussette · 07/12/2022 11:45

my view is that the royal family tried to protect m and h from the vultures out to prey on them as they did need protecting and Harry in particular is/ was naive but they threw this protection away in January 2020

That is the one thing the RF did not do. That is why they left and they have said it time and time again.

KP or the RF put out a statement saying Kate didn't have hair extensions, or botox but where was the statement(s) reining the press in on the ever increasing hatred for Meghan, that has now turned into a billion dollar industry?
Of course that will be refuted on here, and somewhere I had an article proving this to be the case, I am on a new laptop and need to find it!

When they were dating in 2016, Harry put out a statement asking for privacy and claiming that Meghan was being viciously trolled. William put out a statement supporting Harry's statement www.vanityfair.com/style/2016/11/prince-william-statement-support-prince-harry-meghan-markle

I've never seen the Royal Family call out when other members were being trolled like no one (including Harry) said anything when everyone was mocking Beatrice and Eugenie for their outfits. They know that generally them releasing a statement on these things adds fuel to the fire

PeaceJoySleep · 07/12/2022 20:43

Yes,, horrible things were said about Beatrice and Eugenie and prince william and Prince Harry never commented. Awful really.

Oh yes, I'd forgotten. I think there'd been complaints about press intrusion?
Although, surely not. I thought it was just Britush press that are intrusive and they'd never seen the like happening in the US?

I know about William's one statement and of course Harry's. But the incessant rebuttal of anything negative about Kate compared to the radio silence about meghan is incomparable.

So you think Harry, and not William, the heir to the throne should have released a statement about B&E? Where was William's statement then?

Here is an article detailing all the rebuttals about Kate and lack of.. with Meghan. I think it explains it fully.

Thank you for posting this, it’s actually really interesting.

Especially when you look at the sources.

What this looks like to me is giving responses to reputable papers like the telegraph, and saying no comment to the sun and the mirror.

I suppose it depends what lens you view it from.

On a completely different note I think Meghan looked stunning yesterday, her smile was the most natural I've ever seen. She looked so comfortable and so did Harry.

There wasn't an incessant rebuttal of anything negative about Kate though, I don't remember any statement from the Royal Family when she was being called Waity Katie or that people were making unkind comments about her Mother being a former airhostess etc.
The examples in that article you posted where there was a rebuttal from the palace are things like operational stuff like scheduling and the botox one, she was literally being used in ads.

Everything that is said about Meghan and Harry since they left the Royal Family, if they don't rebutt it and/or sue I know its completely true. I don't think the same about the rest of the Royal Family because its not their policy to address everything. They've gotten themselves in a tricky situation because of the volume of stories that will be written about the Royal Family is massive but if you ascribe importance to every one of those stories and have to release a statement about every untrue one, then you will spend all your time doing such.

I'm saying that Harry didn't have a problem with other members of the Royal Family being trolled for years. William not speaking up about Beatrice and Eugenie being trolled but releasing a statement about Meghan shows that she was treated better than even members of the RF by birth. Would you have had them release a weekly statement telling us all to be nice to her?

Both Meghan and Catherine looked amazing yesterday!!

Meghan's dress fit her well, which has been an issue for her in the past IMO. Catherine's red dress was exquisite and I loved that she wore the Lotus Flower tiara.

I noticed that Catherine seems to have changed her hair and make up. If is very subtle, but it makes her look... I don't know. More mature, not in an aging way. Not sure what to call it.

@Roussette that article is interesting. I also found it interesting in another article I read last night, which I can not remember which, that said the palace does in fact place stories in the media.

What I really hope comes out of this whole debacle is that the press needs to stop treating all royal women badly. Of course, billion dollar a year business right?

onlylarkin · 07/12/2022 23:42

@miri1985 I think the difference is that B & E were not subjected to racist articles. Though that is not to say that they did not receive abuse from the press as well (I thought their hats were lovely!)
